What actually increases the demand for CP is its rarity. People horde CP and only do trades. If you don't have any CP the easiest thing to do is molest your daughter/niece/cousin/sister/etc. to make CP so you can trade for more CP.
This kind of sharing is extremely common on tor. CP's rarity is what drives demand, not the material itself. There's a good reason every time you see CP posted to Jow Forums it's from the 90s.

The only real arguments are:

1. Making CP legal encourages more to be made
2. Allowing people to indulge in CP will encourage them to go out and actually harm a child

1 is only true if you allow the sale of newly made CP. If the footage is old/being distributed for free you cannot make this argument.

2 might have some merit but I can just as easily argue that preventing these people from having a "safe" outlet is just as likely to cause them to act out in real life. By this logic murder/torture videos should also be made illegal too then, since watching these might encourage those crimes be omitted for real too.

The real reason CP possession is so bad is because pedophiles are easy targets. Nobody is going to publicly stand up for them and punishing them steeply makes people feel better about themselves.
