I have my autism evaluation in a few hours, you guys have any advice for me?
act autistic, thats good advice
just be yourself and you should pass with flying colors.
no advice to be given really
just do whatever you normally do. if you're being evaluated for a diagnosis then the doctor is just analyzing however you're normally like. You don't need to prepare or practice or study, and doing so for anything could in fact be detrimental. The goal is just to determine if you have autism or not
How do autism tests work? Do they just ask a bunch of questions like "how good are you at social shit" or something?
Ask them "Who do you main on Super Smash Brothers Melee for the Nintendo GameCube released 21st of November 2001?". That should do the trick.
They told me it's gonna take at least 4 hours guys, what the fuck does that mean? I'm nervous that I will get stuck in a mode and give a bad result
I was diagnosed at a young age, so maybe it varies somewhat as an adult, but nonetheless.
they ask you questions that are designed for them to be able to analyze your brain process or similar. For instance, they will ask you about things you're interested and have you demonstrate them, or leave you alone in a room with different toys to play with, or give you aptitude tests that involve arranging blocks or whatever. I think there were rorschach tests too
This was when I was 6, so reading the report from the doctor over 15 years later was a very interesting and introspective experience for me.
As far as I'm aware, they don't base their diagnosis on what you answer with, but rather how you answer. and they certainly won't ask anything direct about your social life like if you have a GF, because for all intents and purposes that is irrelevant to them in formulating a diagnosis
Literally start reeeeeeeeeeee-ing once you get there. I'm not kidding.
Start wailing on that fucker and yell I don't have autism
Don't tell him anything. I'm so very tired of fake autists and autist erasure. Slowly the local treatment place is filling up with loud normoids who go to festivals and have bitchy friend issues.
I almost did at the intake, there was a screeching kid hitting the wall in a repetitive pattern while I waited for an hour and a half for some guy with a low ponytail to ask me shitty questions, ask me what my "dream job" would be and give me shit for "getting high" when I mentioned I've smoked weed before. Not looking forward to this evaluation, every time I see a shrink they latch onto some first-impression idea they get from me and I get railroaded. Hoping the testing will be intensive and give a more accurate pic this time. I need to know what is wrong with me
>mfw it turns out I'm just a loser looking for an excuse
>friends
none
>festivals
never
>and they certainly won't ask anything direct about your social life like if you have a GF
Yeah they do. Your social life is definitely relevant
>gave you shit for smoking weed
can you expand on this
Diagnosis as an adult is 1000x more accurate than diagnosis in a child.
Infact diaganosisng children with autism is pretty fucking stupid.
IMHO mental disorders shouldn't even be diagnosed until at least its either blatantly obvious, or the person is 18+
Get off Jow Forums and go study, you retard.
the problem with that is that once you're an adult it's really hard to correct for. Children with autism need a different or specialized approach to their development and learning process, and being denied that access during their formative years because diagnoses are less accurate is a recipe for disaster. This isn't to shit on people who only get their diagnoses as an adult, because knowing you have autism has its value, but IMHO the real benefit of receiving a diagnosis is to be able to then apply measures to correct for it and mitigate the drawbacks that having autism entails, and that is most possible during childhood
Maybe as an adult, but I doubt it plays a major factor in the diagnosis- at least not the direct answers you give. Again, it's how you answer. For instance, when I was asked my height, my report states that i answered not only in feet/inches, but that I again responded in the total number of inches. It's these sort of nuances where they can really explore your mind and discern what's going on. Like I said, I was only 6 at the time so the process may change with age, and perhaps has changed over the 15 years since I received mine.
He asked me if I ever did any drugs or alcohol and I told him I drink and have smoked weed. He didn't ask about the drinking but he asked "How long have you been getting high, then?" and then directly after a couple questions about anxiety. I think he thought weed caused me to have anxiety when it's just gotten worse since I've been a neet. He also got some random woman to call me from her personal cell phone to offer me therapy, when he never said he would and I only arranged this evaluation, not therapy, I want to know what is wrong with me first and choose who I am going to talk to
Make sure to fake it well because therapists are NOT your friends, they do NOT care about understanding you, you are just another paycheck to them, and you do NOT want to get put in the loony bin
High functioning autists don't get put in the loony bin you fucking retard
the low functioning autists who do need to get put in the loony bin would be incapable of getting to this site in the first place let alone typing out an OP
>tfw evaluator is running late
