I believe it was a Persian method of torture/execution where they would hollow out a log and stick you in it naked then stuff a load of honey and milk in the log to let bugs and other Vermin eat you. Its called Scaphism.

What I don't understand is this. So they hang them until they're almost dead, so wouldn't the person be unconscious when they cut them up? Still it's brutal but not as bad as drawn, quartered and hanged

I also heard about a guy in Cali who had pork tapeworm and had constant seizures because of it. He was forcibly institutionalized because of a false claim of abuse from a family member who abused and berated him. He said the staff there beat him everyday there and either laughed at his seizures or just said that he was faking.
This is what happens when you give a former school bully absolute power.

The rack is often overlooked even though it's among the most brutal forms of execution.
They could (and would) stretch [pun] the process out over a period of days. They could (and would) torture you in various other ways while you were racked.

the chinese would put you in public and tie you to a log and cut off large chunks of your skin. if you were lucky a family member would feed you opioids out of the wazoo before hand so you'd OD on that or at least not feel the cutting as much. death by a thousand cuts is what it was called if i remember correctly
