Harry Potter

Why is Harry Potter so popular with women?

I mean, sure, it's structured in a way as to be appealing to both genders. But it lacks the complex love intrigue that most female media typically possesses, many of the earlier books lack love triangles entirely.

All the men I know that grew up liking Harry Potter moved on while all my female and gay friends my age remained 'potter nerds'.

Women are not as into these things as you might think.

part of it is that the author is a supreme sjw but i don't think that explains all of it

As a kid it was very fun to imagine going to hogwarts. Wouldn't be surprised if women like it for the same reason. The setting is comfy.

If you ever solve this question, next figure out why they're fans of Doctor Who. God damn.

It's really well written and imaginative with a lot of lore and stuff. It's basically become a female nerd staple they relate to each other with. Also, the main character actually does fuck all and a female side character goes unnoticed but carries the team throughout the series.

>harry potter aimed mainly for children/preteens
>children/preteens typically thought wow this is a little cool
>said children/preteens move onto other things 95% of the time
>the rest that still bother when they are older are women and others
For what it is, it is not a bad series. But at the same time its not some super deep reality changing thing either, nor does it have to be. That being said JK Rowling is a bit of a cunt now but that shouldnt be too surprising.

It's quirky and imaginative with female side characters

I'm a 20 year old guy, and I still love it. It's very very comfy, and I reread the books every couple years. Luckily, Rowling's SJW tendencies didn't manifest until after the series was over.

The things I thought Rowling was decent at was character building, and world building. Not every character gets the spotlight, but you know very well who everybody is just through minor interactions with them. If there's an anime analogue, I would say it's FMA. Both have huge casts, and are primarily meant for younger audiences, but every character has enough personality that you won't forget who they are, even if you haven't seen them in a while.

Also, I think women like it partially because they have a crush on Harry, and because there are so many characters to "ship" - but it doesn't force the romance down your throat, so women don't feel like they're consuming trashy YA literature.

I would think they lost any interest in Harry when they realized Daniel Radcliffe would never grow past 5'5.

They probably have crushes on the adult male characters, actually. Sirius and Lupin, primarily.

It's about a common faggot face that doesn't try hard and is a massive underachiever finding out that he's entitled to magic powers.

Lessons in it are things like, just try to be a good person and don't really study because that's what nerds do.

Average fags love thinking they are rockstars for doing nothing. This is like the opposite of fight club. Fag club.

I completely forgot about that. The sheer amount of fan art these people make about Snape of all people. Alan Rickman isn't even that handsome, and he looks like a 60 year old MCR roadie in the movies.

It's literally the definition of milennialism. Wake up,one day and your famous for doing nothing. It's their dream come true.

A lot of these things are self perpetuating and it becomes the generic NPC thing to say to fit in. Like how people say they read Sun Tzu to appear smart.

LEVIOSAAAAAAAAA

Orbited a girl who was a big fan of both. It's a big thing on tumblr and all these type of girls read these gay fan fiction stories and probably masturbate to them, it's fairly bizarre to me what about this crap they like. I want brain scans of these girls to see what parts of their brains get activated when watching these shows and compare that with brains scans of men who watch those shows. I think that would yield interesting results.

Wasn't. He wasn't even all that handsome. He ded.

Shit, you're right, I forgot. He's probably even way less handsome now.

>It's really well written
No. No, it really isn't.

Harry Potter is barely any better than other YA fiction. Rowling just lucked out by popularizing the genre (YA fiction did exist before, but most of the tropes you see today stem from Harry Potter)

The fact that Rowling has now written other works and none of them are any good should put any talent arguments to bed.

I like some of the villains, like the Daleks and Cybermen.

Harry Potter is popular despite it being shit. Women are shallow and much more sociable than men, they like attention and like feeling like theyre part of something. Also most women are just generally dumb.

The simpler and less complex the more womemes like it. They hate anything with a story to follow or complex love intrigue. It's simply too much for their small brains to follow.

it's entry level fantasy, it's easy to fantasise about that world and self insert, since it's just our world but with magic, but it's not as complex as lord of the rings

In crescendo classic "Hero's journey" structure, but softened in a british manner.

Reading Young Adult fiction is still better than playing video games and watching anime. Young women have a better foundation than young men desu

I think a really big part of it is that it's fantastical yet remains in the 'real' world ... it taps into the Disney Princess idea and justifies the fairy tales as real things. Girls LOVE Disney and everything it represents.
Rowling did a good job of making the story not offensive to girls assumingly based on her own experience being a fan of other things.
Plus, the Wizards are basically the super elite of society. They're immensely powerful and have ridiculous wealth, access to the best lands to travel and they have the best lives full of great experiences. What more could a girl want?
