It's going to get so much worse before it gets better, and it'll require women to stand up and acknowledge this disproportionately happens to men who are well-liked targets to be "taken down" in order for things to improve.
In the meantime, society will just ask why someone would want to go through the trouble of lying -- the real answer is because if you're insecure enough, and you can place that blame on someone and make them a target for justice, you can convince yourself (and others) of anything; you can convince yourself they deserve it, and that you were wronged.

Look into what happens when someone has to fear for their life every day, when their support systems are shattered, when everyone wants them gone and homeless and battered at best or dead at worst. There is no support system for men who have this happen OUTSIDE of the alt-right. Do you know what that does? It pushes them there.

I'm black and I was falsely accused in 7th grade. Luckily, I rolled with the punches of being called a pervert and everything went better than expected. All the 8th graders that didn't like me gtfo after graduation and none of the girls of my grade cared that much. And the administrators and teachers liked me so they didn't really do anything. But one girl did tell me she wouldn't go out with me because of the incident. And over the course of my suspension I marathoned Naruto and then I became a weeb shut-in. Whoa, she literally ruined my life. Fuck.

And older black women actually defended him. Maybe not women on tv but every day black women like my mom, aunt and others that I know, hell even some youngish latinas I know defended him because they come at it from a race angle.
