I mostly just lurk because I have nothing to add but the post quality from newcomers is atrocious sometimes. For example:

Go check all the boards and try frequenting the ones that might add something to your life other than funny stories, mental illness or porn. Stuff like /ck/ can be nice, I think. Don't spend all your time in really opinionated boards like Jow Forums and Jow Forums
Understand saging, bump limits, linking threads and boards. I think most of this stuff is in the FAQ (which you should have read along with the rules already).
Understand reverse image search (google and saucenao) so you don't ask for sauce on things you can find yourself.
Use the catalog and don't be the guy who makes the third thread about the same news article everyone has already seen.
Be aware of archives like desuarchive or archive4plebs depending on which board you're looking at. They can come in handy if you wanna go look through old serials on certain boards or catch up on a thread you were gonna read through but missed because it 404'd.

DON'T make a competition out of:
>How miserable you are
>How little social/sexual experience you have
>How much time you've spent browsing
Spending time online and knowing internet pop culture isn't worth shit.
