the idea's sound, but the programming they give you as a community are shit tier. They do not give you progressive overload, or structured workout programming.
The reason people believe it works, is because untrained people who enter the gym for the first time will show good results - just like on any other program.
Competitive crossfiters don't do the WODs, they train for events. They train the normal way, like a competitive lifter would do. Or they enter cf events having a general experience in lifting and normal training.

In my gym there are some really fit guys (most of them are under 5.10) that do CrossFit but I also have seen that most of them also do compound lifts w/ heavy weights other days.

The risk/reward ratio is all fucked.

Much safer ways to achieve those levels

I like CrossFit, shit is fun as fuck. I don't actually pay $150 a month to work out of a box but I ended up writing a list of goals for the movements (clean, deadlift, mile time, rowing, etc) and train on transitions between them.

Doubtful. They might utilize formatting through use of WODs, and may do power cleans and whatnot, but I sincerely doubt they're actively doing crossfit workouts.

Crossfit a is “sport” comprised of different movements,you don’t just train your sport to get good at your sport, you have to train your strength and gpp as well. It’s why “roiding” coughs I mean “elite” crossfitters hit hard numbers in the snatch and clean&jerk; they train those movements for strength since some variation of them is always done in comp.
