Can I get a definitive answer on this? Is SS a meme and is autistic or is it absolutely necessary to do it? Everyone says one or another. Also same with GOMAD
Is SS a meme
Absolutely
ABSOLUTELY TO WHICH YOU DEGEN
It’s the Jow Forums equivalent of “install gentoo” so yes, 100% a long running meme for this board.
Its a meme but its not a bad book to read by any means.
Youre better off starting off doing a 5x5 and learn as you go rather than expecting to know it all/pay people to teach you from the bat.
GOMAD if you're Auschwitz mode and "cant" put on weight.
SS if you're an absolute beginner, but it's missing a lot of important lift so doing it outside of 2-3 months is retarded. Read the book though and the program is dank
It's a good book to read but don't follow the program. That shit got me injured every time I tried it as a beginner. Grinding away at your maximum possible 5rm every workout is not what a beginner should be doing.
Instead, I would look to Scooby for advice. He is on point about almost everything except his core workouts, which I would replace with something like hanging leg raises or cable crunches for the abs and glute-ham-raise or hyperextensions for the back. Then he's on point.
It's way better to look at lifting as a long-term strategy than the idiotic Rippetoe strategy of "lift as much weight as possible every single workout so you have fucked up joints when you're 60" strategy.
SS or SL with chin ups, dips and app workout is pretty good for a beginner. Mind you it's called starting strenght, not starting aesthetics. But if you are Auschwitz mode then you will see some muscle, unless you fuck up on your sleep and diet.
any program without some sort of periodization is a complete meme
Been wasting 2 years in the gym until I started doing SS and I never felt stronger.
I lift much more now and I put on a fuckton more muscle now
> Mind you it's called starting strenght, not starting aesthetics
This is the biggest bullshit lie. The hard truth is that NOTHING an untrained person does for the first 3 months is going to make them look more or less aesthetic than anything else. SS will not make you aesthetic. Neither will a bro-split, but to hear people here say it, they think doing sets of preacher curls with 20 lbs and three sets of ab crunches is going to get you Jacked-And-Chad mode.
If you're getting exercise routines from Jow Forums, chances are your testosterone is very low anyway and you're not going to put on a noticeable amount of muscle no matter which routine you do, at least for the first six months
Trying to periodize training in people with 400 lb totals is retarded. Everybody should start with an LP.
Dude, You even quoted me saying that its not called starting aesthetics, why are you pretending that I was saying something else? Starting strenght is for strenght, it could take years before someone looks aesthetic.
ss is good but you need more bench
do bench every workout along with squats
bench more to bench more as the saying goes
ive had the idea that instead of increasing the weight every workout that you increase it every set
for instance, you do the following on Monday:
Squat
135x5
135x5
140x5
and do the next on Wednesday:
Squat
135x5
140x5
140x5
would this be an EASIER way to linearally progress? it IS progressive overload because you're doing more work in the latter sets.
It's a meme.
See: Every high level coach ever.
yes its a meme. fatasses and autists act like you have to pick between heavy compounds and isolation exercises when they're not mutually exclusive. you can do heavy compound and then isolations
If you're a weak bitch SS will get you stronger really fast.
If you're a skinny bitch GOMAD will get you bigger really fast.
It's a meme in the sense that it just gets repeated by people who don't fully understand it, but it works. Any routine with progressive overload and caloric surplus works.
SS does include some isolation work. Read the damn book before you criticize.
i didn't say it doesn't. i said proponents of that style of training and that program in particular hate on isolation movements which is true. chin ups and dips aren't isolations, they're compounds and rippetoe himself heavily advises against things like curls, he just says you can do them if you want
I did SS, now I'm on a 4days upper/lower split and still kinda dyel but making good gains
overall I still think doing SS was a good choice
SS is a shit meme spread around by retarded DYELs and Trex abominations and rippletits cocksuckers
Squatting once a week and deadlifting once a week is what the vast majority of powerlifters have been doing before the internet was even a thing, squatting 3x a week is just gonna make you into a trex
this
rippetoe literally said 'do curls because having big arms is fun'
Jow Forums just invented its own version of ss
he doesn't advice against isolations
he says you can't progress strength on them much and have to base training around compounds for that reason
which is also what literally everyone else says
you're a brainlet with 0 reading comprehension
>skateboard squats
when did you switch? after you platoed, when you hit your strength goals like 1/2/3/4 or after a certain time frame like 3 months?
How exactly am I supposed to know when to switch?
I am kind of stuck on 58kg/128lbs bench and 62kg/137 lbs squat for over 2 weeks now. Overhead will probably be the stuck soon at 40kg/88 lbs. Only deadlift goes up every workout 85 kg/187 lbs at the moment.
>which is also what literally everyone else says
Imagine being this retarded.
yes
here we go again
>Sucking the estrogen out another mammals titties
Never gonna make it.
What's an LP, I've seen this before.
If you want to get big, get stronger. You can do it with any rep range, you can do it with compound movements or by isolating every single muscle it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is efficiency, because you don't want to spend hours in the gym when you can get the same result by replacing isolations with compound movements and 100 rep sets with lower rep ones with heavier weights.
hey user, I'm back
I switched after a plateau I didn't want to break by bulking so around 45/75/90/120kgs 5rm, at 75kgs of bodyweight
hope I've been helpful
Squat volume too low
SS is for fat unaesthetic fucks
