Nurse, it is a two year degree. Worked first 6 months making about 55k/yr, then transferred to new unit and negotiated so it's only Friday/Saturday/Sunday shifts. That bumped it up to about $60k/yr, then I signed with an agency that pays $43/hr once I got a year experience in critical care. I can't always do the two extra nights/wk with agency, but full time job has paid time off so I schedule extra days to catch up using PTO so it still averages out to two agency days/week.

I probably went overboard with the networking and shit during school but I'm trying to figure how things work in nursing, most people I talk to had very different goals so not much help. Networking was only way to meet other ambitious types and employers. Honors society, State Association, and job fairs. My area is desperately short so there is a lot of room for negotiation even with so little exp. December I'll have my BS and will try to get my full time job to put me in as "weekender" job. Actually pays slightly more for Sat/Sun than working Fri/Sat/Sun but only get 4 weeks vacation/yr as opposed to biweekly accruals based on years exp, and no annual raise or increase in vacation days. Once I'm there I'll have my goal of 4 nights/wk and 100k+/yr.

I can't lie, the job wears on you physically, mentally, and emotionally, but the money is good. I think it suits a robot well, you need that autismal distance in your interactions with patients. Lots of telling people what and how to do, lots of saying no. Good if you are type A and like micromanaging.

Banks usually charge a fee if you don't have enough money or transaction history per month. A lot of people just close it down and pay a fee to have their pay checks deposited. I use to stash at least a thousand dollars minimum as an emergency fund that's always accessible. Which is rather low for an emergency fund but hanging onto a thousand dollars at all times was a bit of a challenge. Especially if your looking for a gf, I use to keep that fund seperate from other stuff I'd have a few hundred dollars in my pocket since no bank account every day when I walk around and get girls rejecting me because I didn't have a wagekek job even though I got more money on me then them and I likely have more saved up but just downplay it and don't flash around my bread. I learned a few years earlier even close friends would try to scam me if they found out what my income was so I started hiding it and how much I had. On top of utilities, living necessities like toilet paper and shit like that, groceries, work related expenses, most jobs will send you into debt to work at while the boss makes out with more than enough to spare. You're considered lazy or stupid if you don't work a job that costs you money and makes the boss a fortune. The entire thing is a fucking scam and there is going to be a worse financial crisis that's unavoidable trying to fix it unless there is some serious legal/political reforms very soon.

To rent a smol house is like 1.2k, utilities maybe another 400. toilet paper and stuff like that is under $20 a month unless you are super dedicated to taking 10+ shits shits and shower per day. Groceries are $200. Work related expenses are tax deductible so don't count. Figure another 400 for going out with coworkers and other fun stuff, you still have some left to save. Maybe move to an area you can afford or get a better job. Literally nowhere(at leat in the US) will a job send you into debt. The whole point of working to have income, not gradually lose money and go into debt. If this were the case you could just be unemployed and make more money than everyone else. 1.9-2.2k/mo is really not all that crazy tho, if it is just get married or find a good bro to room with and split rent/utilities.

I was unemployed and had more liquid assets and non-liquid than most people. It was constant work too. I just budget better than other people. I can spend X amount of time and make Y amount of money, or spend X amount of time and barter to do it for little or nothing in exchange for other stuff where I'm saving more money over time even if I'm making less and I'm in a lower tax bracket.
