Am I the only unironical Christian here? At this point I am 100% sure that the only path towards genuine happiness is through religious living and there's nothing else to pursue. Surely I'm not the only one, right?
Am I the only unironical Christian here...
This board needs God most of all.
I don't see how it leads to happiness, but you're probably not alone.
Ah yes, I remember when I went through my holy roller phase
What the fuck type of person goes through a holy roller phase?
all that jesus amen stuff gets old eventually too, user
Why pick Christianity specifically?
i don't believe in Jesus.
You can't send kids to church for a decade telling them they are all god's children and then tell them that they have to worship Jesus for being the son of god when you learned last week that so is the kid with the sinus infection who touches all the communion wafers.
Yeah well there is some feel-good stuff about it at first if you find religion as an adult, but it eventually got boring, at least for me. The answer christians have for everything is just have faith, it's all god's plan, etc. it's pretty passive. There is something to it but it's so stagnant it feels oppressive after a while
Unironic Christian life is unironically the best life. You're not alone OP
>t.american protestant who thinks american protestantism represents christianity
>Believing in happiness and that it's something you can achieve.
I miss the days when I thought this too.
You got something interesting you want to say then say it, don't leave snarky faggy comments
you just seemed confused or something, you're probably not even religious but like a snake you speak wit ha double tongue. True religion is brutal.
Sense of "someone is watching over me, even if I struggle now it'll be worth it in heaven"
I wish I believed in heaven and God, it seems so beautiful
I just said it. You're an ignorant American who thinks American protestantism is what Christianity is despite it making up a barely significant percentage of world wide christianity
That is not interesting or useful. Be gone
>he lashes out because it was a spot on
You seem to be lost, that didn't add anything to the discussion
You seem to be braindead, let me spell it out for you in simple easy to understand points.
>you were an American protestant
>your experience with Christianity is literally just american protestantism
>american protestantism is a silly. very young, and numerically insignificant sect of Christianity
>Therefore your opinion on Christianity as a whole religion is uninformed and irrelevant
any confusion still and I'll happily clear it up for you
Yankee ignorance
not him but tell me all about christianity through the lense of some mammon-obsessed european.
Christianity is literally over 2 millennia worth of philosophy and theology by some of histories most significant people. You could dedicate a lifetime to it and still not fully understand it. you're not going to get much out a Jow Forums post, but ill try to give you the briefest hint of why it's so significant.
>The human brain has not physically evolved in about 30 000 years, recorded history is about 6000~ years old. Human brain hasn't changed since looooooooong before recorded history
>that means every significant society/behavioral/moral change in human history you've ever read about cannot be described as a result of humans biologically changing, it's all been due to philosophical change.
>the change from immoral savages to civilized humans therefore can be studied by their change in philosophy
>philosophy regarding morality/purpose is theology, the basis of religion
>Religious history is therefore the written account of human morality developing, and is recorded quite well and easy to go back and read their arguments
That's why religion is so significant. If you're curious about Christianity in particular then that's because I'd assert as the most significant religion to our society, and because its historically been the most academic and best at keeping record (they invented university and have a long history of monks transcribing books and building libraries long before the printing press).
Christianity has over 2000 years of philosophy and theology, and a rigid structure that means every single change in it has had to be argued and documented vigorously. This means you can go back and see exactly where every change happened and for what reason, and who was responsible for it (usually a saint)
American protestantism is barely a few hundred years old and threw out the history and structure, which is why its nothing but feel good "be nice to people" and why every priest can teach their own interpretation. Its just the fluff with no history
>If you're curious about Christianity
nope.
christianity is immoral.
Brilliant response. Clearly well thought out and very engaging feedback to everything I typed out.
I'm too tired to respond to everything you typed, but anything written in the bible was written by man, and not god, and is thus idolatry and a distraction from God.
I literally did not mention the bible at all. I don't know exactly why I was foolish enough toexpecting an intelligent discussion from this, but I'm clearly getting what I deserve.
