but to be fair, roman catholicism has had a uniquely irish expression on our island, with a lot of folk-religion inveigling its way into the profession; some of which translating to an almost universal reverence for the local parish priest as a tribal chieftain in his fiefdom, rather than a servant to his flock (as evidenced by migrating irish priests being notorious among their peers who've found them to be absolute hallions )

and it's this distorted version of the faith which has seen innumerable abuses perpetrated on the faithful, that has been rejected by most folk in ireland - but having nothing to replace the spiritual void of a local church that has proven itself to be faithless to those it was commanded to feed - they have embraced the devilry of secularism, and rather than sacrifice their children to the magdalene laundries, mothers now cut out the middle-men and slaughter them by their own hand
