>Religious?
Yes. I was brought up in a Lutheran Church. I know the community pretty well at my church. I cannot say that I believe all of those stories in the Bible and whether they actually happened or not. Sometimes I have the tendency to be agnostic but generally I want to believe that some kind of God-like being exists.
Society?
Society is a social hierarchy. There are those who do so well in life mostly because they were given a clear path in the beginning and then they were motivated to rise to the absolute top. They are the only ones who matter. The rest of us common folk were either born into the middle of the pyramid or at the bottom. Society portrays the ones on top as heroes or as villains. Everyone else should be like them and to not show admiration for them makes you untrustworthy in the eyes of general society. Everyone knows all of these thing but that is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of society.
>The world?
The world will always be full of chaos. Things are better in certain places today than they were for those places in the past. Other parts of the world are still lagging behind in quality of life which is surprising when you live in a first world nation. Its just the way it goes.
>the universe
The universe most likely contains a secret since it expands forever and ever. Humans or intelligent life are not meant to explore the truth of the universe which is why it is so immensely big. It was most likely set up to be this way by some mysterious force.
who the hell knows why anything exists, why we're conscious, or what consciousness even is
don't take life so seriously
wrong, you are just one of my incarnations. I am you from the past or the future, experiencing this anons life instead of yours.
there's just you, this rock, and a bunch of other creatures on this rock you have to work with/around
religion / myths are mostly just over-developed fiction stories added on or changed through centuries of interpretations
live for pleasure because our only guarantee once we're born is to die later
it isnt worth pondering interplanetary societies and travel given the time we're at and the technologies we have, so live with earth as it is because it's probably all you'll get to know.
little hard to go into anything specific being the only question is intentionally very vague
Nothing matters at all the reason I'm not dead yet is because there's no reason for me to die or to live in that matter, I exist to just fade away some day and so does everybody else.
Welp time to see what's on the other side. see y'all later if there's something other than darkness.
people have to lie to themselves about life having inherent meaning in order to be motivated and happy
My life actually has inherent meaning because I made it so. Are you jealous?
I have no idea why anything exists, but I'm here so I may as well make the best of it.
We're stupid apes riding a rock through the void.
That's all I know for sure.
Don't care. Just drink and masturbate. I read the Bible twice and was interested in reading other books but not enough to finish. Kill me.
Good take. No one knows jack shit.
That's the only attitude I can logically make sense of
My "religion" teaches that everything in nature has a spirit, so you should respect nature or the spirits will get angry and there will be terrible consequences. All people also have guardian angels that are connected to nature who watch over their "children" or the heads that they own. These guardian angels guide you through life. There are mythologies that go along with these angels that we all know aren't true and were never meant to be believed, they're just stories that describe human nature or to teach humans how to live, like the story of a warrior being physically abusive toward God's daughter.
All nature and these angels are manifestations of one god, who was originally described as being both male and female at the same time, but I believe that the originators of this religion were just trying to describe the concept of a being with no gender but couldn't really comprehend something that is neither male nor female.
Although it sounds fantastical, I consider this a realistic religion.
Respect nature. If you disrespect it, bad things happen. If you respect it, good things happen.
There's no such thing as sin. There are hot (sins in Christianity) and cold (being a good person) activities and it's good to have a balance of both. People have their own personal sins but they aren't the "damn you to hell" sins, they're just things that you refrain from doing to acknowledge your weaknesses (ex: not eating crab because you have a habit of holding onto bad relationships like a crab)
The only hell that exists is the one you create for yourself. You do good things, you live in a way to try to please you're angel, you create heaven. You do bad things, you do things that you're told are bad for you, you create hell.
I like my religion. It's a lot less nonsensical and pessimistic than Christianity. Probably because the people who created my religion came from a place where life was a lot easier.
Fuck all other species.
>If you disrespect it, bad things happen. If you respect it, good things happen.
The entirety of human history says otherwise.
So you're a climate change denier?
Fuck climate change.
Don't submit to the Earth, free yourself from it's shackles then beat the shit out of it even more for daring to stand in our way.
That's basically orthodox
But it's against my religion, user. By beating the shit out of the earth, I'm beating the shit out of everything that lives on it. It's counterproductive.
>I'm beating the shit out of everything that lives on it
Do it after you got everyone out of their reliance on it.
Non literalist. Bible, no matter how much you like it- isn't a description of objective reality. And it never was intended as such.
I mean, these fuckers weren't obsessed with cosmology and history. They were just posting trippy poetic fantasies, and myths or unarticulated wisdom into some big ass book then linking it all together. Honestly any modern faggot who interprets this shit as a literal description of objective reality, rather than at best an important set of literature from the past, is ..
Joining clubs where you convince eachother of a set of shit about the world is .. a waste of the fact that you're born in this timeline
>And it never was intended as such.
Not him but a lot of the shit in the Bible doesn't seem like it was ever meant to be taken literally. Some things, definitely, but others, no. They were written just to make a point. But idiots don't understand nuance so it all became the undisputed truth.
Some parts of the bible are obviously supposed to be literal and some parts metaphorical
Metaphorical vs. literal interpretation of the bible is a false dichotomy
Can you give examples
The world is full of people, and they have feelings and thoughts in the same way I do. There are different degrees of empathy and self-control. I dunno it's too big and shitty to put into words. I'm detached from other people by a large gap though, I don't know shit. I do find it whimsical how much difference tone and body language make with people.
the false dichotomy doesn't matter when most people fall into the dichotomy anyways. not saying you do
>society
Centrist
>world
Manifistation of endless stride towards lower energy extremums, i.e inevitable heat death
>universe
Hard determinism
I 'm not invested in the debate but usually the people that talk about metaphorical vs literal interpretation are non believers or "cultural christians"
If nobody is anxious, then nobody presses the nuclear button.
The path to life probably started with self-replicating RNA. I can't find the article a professor showed me when I was in college, but this one sort of explains the hypothesis. It's not for brainlets though.
>religious
it's a good way to instill morals onto a population for the purpose of control/survival. as for the philosophical aspect, i don't really care.
>society
it's collapsing around us and we're fucked basically
>the world
it's being destroyed and we're fucked basically
>the universe
who gives a shit about the universe? other life probably exists somewhere, but the chance of it being found in my lifetime is slim
I think prophecy is real, and extremely rare.
I get my entire personal philosophy from Gurren Lagann.
Anarchist and atheist
I see no evidence for God that makes me feel him to be something more than a control method, and states always tend to collapse after they get powerful enough to stop justifying themselves without dogmatism.
>there have been states that lasted for millennia
>no anarchist state has ever lasted more than a few decades
really makes you think
>Religious
Roman Catholic because fuck everything it dovetails perfectly with my personal neurosis.
>Society
Mencius Moldbug is right about virtually everything. The Western World is dominated by in an insane utopian cult masquerading as pure reason and charity and it's so determined to hold the reigns to the bitter end that it can only end badly and violently.
>The world
God probably made it, fuck you all.
>The universe
Another word for world
My favourite line from 'A Canticle For Liebowitz' more or less sums it up.
>It never was any better, it never will be any better. Only richer or poorer, sadder but never wiser, until the very last day.
Utopian thinkers and tinkerers will be the death of us all.
>anarchist state
>>anarchist state
shut up
All I know is that I'll be truly alone in this world it seems, some will oust me based on my beliefs while the people I'm supposed to be with call me a syncretic or a heretic. It's going to be a long tiring road. Need to procreate but unsure if I will.
I could say:
Complete and total atheistic nihilism.
Love fate even to the point of loving hell.
The Christian bible is the truest realisation so far of the one God but not inerrant or complete in its understanding.
There has been a Jesus in secret for every peoples and time and there is a Jesus today too.
Jesus died anonymously and without ceremony and his ministry began after his death.
Jesus conquered hell and saved the material world of suffering.
There is no afterlife or need for it.
But ultimately it is a mystic truth beyond rational approximation only expressable in story.
The jackhammer sound / shouting loud / and echoing round / of empty streets
And another day alone on my own carrying the vaults of my mind
Hey Strength / bear with me a while / the sky weighs heavy on my back
Could you ever lift a load as great / as one crushed beneath the gods?
So about the fruit of discord / of a golden tree
These fruits in Hawwah's orchard / west of you and me
I'll give you the food of gods ambrosia and their holy nectar too
In red and purple and thorn'd crown / toils man beneath the sun
He bears a weighty load / woe / glory / gold
On tired shoulders / working men / shining heavens hold!
The blood of man / sweet water of stormy sea
Red fruits / of the pomegranate tree
There is no God and no afterlife.
Humans have will. But not free-will.
Good and Evil exist, but they can only really be understood in hindsight.
A Satanist. Actually more Luciferian. One of my main beliefs is that everybody is their own god.
This be what I also believeth
KJV-only Independent Fundamental Baptist in the Steven Anderson crowd.
>KJV
fuck off with your massonic bible heretic. If you were a good christian you'd use the Douay-Rheims
tl;dr = I hope God/heaven exists but it probably doesn't.
Go diddle some more kids, Catholicuck.
you're heading straight to hell heretic. REPENT NOW
Your entire church is a pedophile ring where they cover for each other. Last time I checked, baby rapers, deceivers, homosexuals and false prophets went to hell for eternity. Catholics follow baby raping faggot priests.
>you're heading straight to hell
Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
Matthew 7:1-5
Just like a catlick to forget the words of Jesus.
i don't think you understand the word "inherent"
>things that you refrain from doing to acknowledge your weaknesses (ex: not eating crab because you have a habit of holding onto bad relationships like a crab)
>the people who created my religion
can you give some more info about this "religion" and who created it?
i'm into gaia worship and animism and all that, hook me up user, i wanna join.
>whatever post-death thing you believe in will happen to you
>all religions and philosophy teachings are small pieces of the big picture
I like to imagine all the other Really Important Writings that people were making around that time that never made the cut, so to speak.
How many alternate fanfic versions of the bible stories were there? What were they like? Surely there were some groups at the same time trying to say something different and we'll never know.
I want to know.
There must have been more people coming up with Big Important Writings That Everyone Should Read and Follow Forever than just however many people were involved in the Bible.
Meme belief: we exist as either an accident that is so generic in the scope of life, other more advanced races don't even bother with us because we are a dime a dozen or we're the product of a species so advanced that we're a 99 cent store version of life that was purchased solely to farm our resources (most likely gold, as it is rare in the universe and also what we have always valued) and the farmer is waiting for us to murder all life on the planet (including micro organisms) to make it easier to collect on their investment thus explaining how even with our current knowledge and power we can't figure out a star trek like utopia; it was part of the planned process
Religious: one of the OG memes don't even care
Society: Cannot evolve at the rate of technology and now we are seeing the negative effects of a digital age with kids as young as 2 being given ipads as their babysitter and becoming normalized to the Screen
The World: homogenizing culture and beliefs when possible to make the algorithm more effective at calculating cost risk analysis for corporate endeavors
The Universe: Impossible to understand and I don't even bother trying to figure it out. For example, take determinism. What effect would it have on our lives if it were true or not? We'd still pursue what we wanted to pursue. Not saying trying to understand the universe better is a hopeless cause, but at this time, any conclusion(s) theorized about the universe will hold no real influence on behavior and consequence so I'm not really interested in them
Self-replicating RNA isnt the start of life, it is life.
I heard a good theory about micro-layers in clay, in which molecules (or aminoacids, which were proven to emerge even in abscence of life) could "fall" into and assemble themselves in all kinds of random fashions. Given enough time, and a self-replicating RNA could emerge almost with 100% probability.
It originated in West Africa. Many tribes follow this religion but the most popular forms of it are Ifa from the Yoruba people, Santeria from the Cubans and Voodoo from the Haitians and the Louisianans, even though Voodoo is a lot more aggressive and violent since it was born out of such terrible conditions.
I'm not religious but I like the idea of god. I think its better not to worry about the afterlife and instead focus on trying to becoming the best person you can be.
Science has improved our lives in the sense that we don't have to worry about premature death but it isn't able to solve any deeper problems of the human condition.
Society is what it is, things change. The west has become too hedonistic in some respects.
oh. that.
enjoy your memes.
>inb4 meme reply about how its not a meme
I don't know what you mean by "meme". Weird how I gave you an in depth description of the religion and you were on board with it and were telling me about how you're interested in animism, but when I told you what I was talking about, all the sudden it's not good enough for you. Is it the word "voodoo" that fucked you up? Or is it the fact that it's a religion native to Africa?
nah my dude.
i am blackbot from nawlins, i seen some shit. i'm good on that.
Yeah which is why I said the versions that Haiti and Louisiana came up with are a lot more aggressive and dark. But the styles that come from Africa and Spanish-speaking America are a lot less angry. Being from Texas, I've been able to experience both sides and I'd stay away from the Louisiana style too. I've even seen people who practice Haitian Voodoo say that the Afro Cuban form is too soft and flowery.
kill nigs lmao
I'm a Catholic, and it has helped me a lot through my life.
