TLDR: I was fat, got Jow Forums, never cut.

I was pretty chunky (never obese, but my BMI was well within the parameters for overweight). I was really depressed and pills didn't work.

I was on a family vacation and TLDR my baby niece nearly drowned and I nearly got taken out saving her. I was so super spooked by my (and her) near death experience that I took swimming lessons and learned CPR. I started swimming everyday. Then, since I was at the gym, I started running because it let me listen to music longer. Then I started lifting.

I never really cared about getting thin because I'm ugly and that ain't changing, but I really had fun at the gym. It cured my depression, I felt really happy, and I had to start setting hard limits on my gym time. Now I go 5-6x a week depending on if I'm taking classes in something.

Because I have zero hope of being thin, I still eat like a motherfucker. My brother's a true blue Chad and sometimes we had drinking and eating contests. I win the latter quite often. The end result is I still have a lot of body fat, but I'm very strong for a woman and have been able to surpass some of the men in my life (which, to be fair, are lanky academics).

I'm still sort of grumpy about being single and the double standards sometimes, but I'm largely happy and went from being a recognizable poster on this site to visiting on occasion.

I've only been doing this for about a year so I'm still a newfag in many respects, but I've started really pushing myself lately and am starting to resarch the science of it all in a little more detail.
