in my religion the vast majority of worship wasn't in temples or at festivals but at the family shrine, as a family. i see no conflict between having children and serving a higher power. the crucial difference is that we don't have absolute beliefs in the afterlife so having children is one of the few ways your name will be remembered.

Orthodox priests have children and they can manage all that just fine. The only reason priests were barred from having families was because of property issues. Some pope in the middle ages didn't like having church wealth and property spent on the families of priests so he decided to bar priests from having families altogether. And as you can guess, it brought all sorts of problems for the priesthood.
