it's not just the ammonium chloride, it's the recipe and it's variations. Some of the recipes can make it as lovely as wasabi. That's why we have salmiakki booze, salmiakki chocolate and salmiakki ice cream, not to mention salmiakki meat marinades (which are actually brilliant).
