This meant that people would almost always go on absurd military campaigns until they created a vacuum that some other asshole would fill when there was any sign of weakness.

Its all about surplus of food and water. You have to have that before you can grow into it. They dont have shit there to grow in and if they did they are too stupid to grow anything at a modern level of ingenuity. When the caliphates were up they thought of knowledge as the domain of god. They believed that by gathering as much information and translating it into their language as possible they were doing the lords work. And it was great, but now they are a selfish people who expect god to give them everything. They dont praise him for any reason other than for their own eventual gain. They fight to return to their glory days but forget how they got there. They originally United many tribes with a common goal but now they separate themselves with unreasonable entitled dreams.
