There's a reason she's a single mother. A self-respecting father would never abandon his family unless the woman were the problem.

There's two scenarios here. If the man left the woman, there must have been something so horribly wrong with her that he could not stand being with her anymore. Maybe she never put out. Maybe she cheated. Maybe she was fucking crazy and tried to stab him. But you really don't want to find out what her malfunction is firsthand, do you?

If the woman left the man, what makes you think she won't leave you, too? The man she left was her child's biological father. That's the closest link her child has to anyone. Secondly, you'll never be the real father, and whatever way you treat the child will have to be approved by the mother first. Thirdly, that woman is sloppy seconds. And fourth, you're putting out extra cash for the woman and the kid.

yeah, i understand that even if the man is fucked up, the woman still has to choose to be with him. Neither the man or the woman is ever faultless in this. Even so, there are cases where the single mom has her shit together and will take a relationship more seriously than any unattached thot, and she'll be aware of all the stigma of dating a single mom and actively avoid things that reflect that stereotype.

every case is different. Some single mothers coparent with the father of their child, and aren't looking for a replacement father at all.

i can see what you're saying in theory, but i've grown up with kids whose parents did that, and it didn't seem like that much trouble.

Instead of making generalizations, I think it's better to stay open and judge each case as it comes. You guys aren't wrong to be super suspicious of single moms, most of them fit the descriptions you're making. But most women in general are pretty terrible. There are some good ones in the group too, just gotta take it case by case.

I've seen both good and bad things. A lot of awkward weekends with a parent just showing up mad about shit and making me go back home before it got too bad.

Done this twice. Things can go pretty well if you accept that you are now an on demand babysitter and you learn to never take sides if mom/kid argue. Also never ever tell mom how to raise her kid....you are not the dad.
