I don't even like putting stickers on things, or wearing graphic T-shirts. The human body is pretty amazing, no need to slap shit on it like NASCAR.

I think most of them look like shit and think less of almost anyone who has a visible one

Tattoos are a universal sign of poor judgement. People who have tattoos do not realize that shit looks trashy once they turn 30.

I thank the lord daily that I didn't go with my impulse to get one in my early 20s.

I would like to get something done, maybe an old Western or Greek mythology themed sleeve from a good artist, but I don't want to be judged for it.

If we lived in a society where upper management never gave a shit and values didn't percolate downward from the upper echelon then yeah, I'd have some gnarly, cool shit on my arms. But the last place I want to find myself in 10 years is being the one guy in law school/at a job iinterviewat an upper middle class family's wedding/ etc. And having people ask me why I have a faded, angry looking Poseidon stamped on my arm or making value judgments about me because of it.

Maybe I could pull it off but I don't want to find out or miss out on something because of it.

Also I don't want to look back regretfully but I think with enough consideration I wouldn't regret whatever I got. That said waking up one morning 15 years from now and thinking "why the fuck is their a compass on your arm you fucking dumbass" is a good deterrent.

Usually just think it's guys trying to look tough or portray a certain image for social reason. Increasingly I see total s_o_y boys with full sleeves and stuff who who unironically talk about toxic masculinity so I don't really get who they are trying to kid with the tatted look.

As for women with tats I just don't get it at all. I'm only 22 and If I look at my parents generation I can't think of a single woman I've ever met with a visible tattoo in shorts/tshirt . Nowadays after highscool it seems like half of chicks have at least one tattoo. I really don't know what to say about them other than that even if the girl was a kissless virgin and I saw she had a tattoo I would think she'd been with at least a dozen guys. I understand that a lot of people have the mindset of tattoos = criminal, irresponsible, slutty, stupid, impulsive, tacky, low class, etc. I can't really argue against some of that. Also on people that are intelligent and smart.

Why do you specifically want a sleeve? Why not something on your chest or back perhaps? Why would you want it in a visible area and also not be judged for it? What are you trying to put forward by having a sleeve of western or greek mythology?

I feel like for your everyday guy tattoos are just a facade. It just makes you a fucking poser trying to be something you are not.

Tattoos, like many things women do, are attention-grabbing and initially arousing but they start to wear on you after a while. Like whenever I interact with visibly tattooed women in real life I get annoyed by them after a while. Same with crazy makeup, uptalking, etc.

Why does having a tattoo make someone a poser? I just think of it as art. That's seriously it. One step up from fashion choice, maybe. I'm not trying to project any image in particular, maybe an aesthetic? I love Greek mythology that's why I would want one. But I also grew up in "mountaineer" railroad country and think an homage to my roots would be cool. Ultimately I think its irrelevant, I could get a nice colorful koi sleeve and be just as happy with the art.

So the answer would be i want one because I like them in the same way I like my other fashion choices, my style. I like the art and the permanence of it. But like I said I won't do it because of that taboo, it could cost me opportunities or id have to deal with people making judgments about my intelligence or what have you

When I was in the army, I didn't even think about getting a tattoo until near the end of my deployment. I've seen and done some horrible things in my life so when I came back to the states I did a lot of volunteer work which prompted me to get two tattoos of the words "angel" and "devil" in chinese on my left and right wrists so that I can remind myself that I am capable of doing both good and bad things.

10 years from now I'll look at my wrists and still have profound thoughts of what went through my mind the day I decided to get these tattoos but the idiots who got them because they like certain movies or tv shows will only see an outdated, obsolete franchise.
