benching is a very stable and safe workout, as long as you dont drop the weight on your face you will be ok

squatting is more complex, if you are new or bend your body the wrong way you can seriously mess up your back

If you're new, use rack. If you bend your body the wrong way, for example if your core is weaker, use rack.

squats are riskless if you have good form, know how to drop the weight/use safety bars and know your limits (no ego lifting)
