Has anime had a good or bad effect on you and your life?

All things considered

anime is pretty cool

Neither. I watched Dragon Ball (Pre and Post Z), Sailor Moon, Yuyu Hakusho and a few other anime as a child. I grew up and stopped watching it as much. They've always been nothing but cartoons to me. No different than Spongebob or Cat Dog, just intended for older kids instead of 8-year-olds.

Maybe it's because I always watched teenager anime and eventually grew out of it that anime didn't have any real bearing on my life. Maybe if I'd watched more adult oriented shit, I'd be a weeb too.

Anime turned me into a tranny. I would say this is a bad effect.

Also neither. Watched some when I was a kid. But I didn't have unlimited access to it and grew up without high speed internet. So I didn't jerk off to any hentai.

I consume anime the same way I consume film. It's just another medium. Overall it has a good impact on my life, because without it I wouldn't have experienced beautiful works of art like Perfect Blue or Ping Pong the Animation.

My man!
Growing up poor helped me out so much.
I'm only here to laugh at losers.
t-trust bro

when i was younger it made me look weeby, but i was also desperate to feel accepted into a group.

no a days i barely watch anime. only niche ones that come out.

>ping pong
have you seen ching chong, heard it's a great movie aswell

I fucking hate the word senpai god its so annoying fuck of niggers

You're a giant retard.

no u

Anime itself hasn't had a bad effect. But the community and culture around it is full of cancer and autism that I wish I had never been exposed to.

all things considered,
no matter how fucking low I fall, no matter how fucking useless I'll ever feel or be, I can rest easily knowing that im not a fucking weeb like the rest.

I only watch anime and read manga very occasionally and I don't think it's really done anything to me. Last thing I watched was Made in Abyss back when it came out, which I thought was pretty good. I don't think anime really has a bad effect on you unless you're absolutely fucking tasteless and watch moe shit religiously. In which case you'll end up a trap or something. Too many treat these shows like they're good just because they have the anime art style, which is why you get some many "ironic weebs." Honestly just treat it like anything else and you'll be fine

>posts a gif of one of the greatest anime creators of all time
yeah, sure you don't like anime.

Good. Many of my all-time favourite movies and series have been animated. They have not only brought me so much entertainment but also taught me a lot.

>moe shit
You mean like Made in Abyss?

>cartoons teaching you things
are you a literally child

>greatest anime creators of all time calls anime trash

Not him, but why would animation preclude thematic exploration?

No, a child would judge whether or not art can teach them something based on the format of that art.

The quote is fake, you dunce.

No I mean like high school harem animes number 200 that comes out every season

That's not moeshit. Moeshit is anime that uses a moe art style, like Made in Abyss.

Okay well I don't know my lingo then but you get what I mean

forgive me, manchild then

Hahahaahaha, god damn thats fucking hilarious. Wew, didnt know comedians of your calibur graced this board with their pressence.

Why didn't you answer my question? You're retarded, aren't you?

you should feel greatful for me to even post
why words are like rich honey

you don't have to be so disrespectful of my mental illness
you are like the boy that beats up the kid with glasses
not cool man

>literal loli/furry/shota/piss/vomit fetish show is "pretty good"
>but all that other anime is for weird weebs lol

How many of you think your social skills were influenced by anime? Like there is a known connection between autism and anime interest

yeah
hollywood does not concern itself with reality - a genius janny throwing a tantrum, an overdramatic black man pretending to be jesus christ and talking about big murican fast food, the oh-so-shocking computers-are-bad-for-you dystopia, an annual killing spree. It's all so dramatic, tacks on a bunch of poor man's morals (themes) because they're too enamored in their nihilism to say anything worth listening to. It's like an orchestra without a conductor because only manchildren would need someone to tell them how they should play.
anime is interesting - be careful of falling in love with the idea of falling in love, a parent of a dead child grieves forever, it is good to to have compassion for the losers, but not to be afraid of victory, and I'm not even pulling from the deep stuff, just isekai and slice-of-life seasonalshit. Compare it to realize your potential, do what you want, don't let other people tell you what to do, be forgiving, everything is a scheme to bully the poor. You can just tell one medium was made for a mass audience and the other for niche

>only niche ones that come out.

What would count as niche? Stuff like Citrus or Gridman?

Anime tends to put me in certain moods and if I find a likeable character I try to incorporate them into my state of mind, but this only works when I'm on my own. As soon as I meet another person I switch it all off and go into my basic interaction mode, it would be social suicide to try acting out in the same manner as most anime characters in front of another person. Most real life conversation is a lot more intricate than anime dialogues, the tone differs greatly.
I do remember a guy in school who actually went and committed social suicide though, someone told him that girls appreciate funny guys, the cartoon Bonkers was popular on TV at the time and this guy decided to become a carbon copy of Bonkers for a full day, people quickly got fed up with his shit and started asking wtf was wrong with him and stuff, some laughing behind his back, he was absolutely insufferable though.

by autism do you mean obsessive interest in something stupid? anime attracts autists, it doesn't turn people into autists. but I'd also extend that to my inability to understand what anyone is saying. part of the reason why I prefer anime is because subtitles are the norm. listening to people talk is like trying to read through slav' di'l'guh in' g'ine w'tt d'wynd.

It gives me something to look forward when I'm onto the next episode. It's also a great form of escapism. There's a great deal of creativity in anime that western cartoons don't have. Not to mention the design is more appealing.

It developed my fetish for kimonos and sailor suit uniforms, although I've always found modest girls attractive. I hope that any wife I have in the future will wear something along the lines of that before sexy time.

>a parent of a dead child grieves forever
anohana was shit.

I don't think anime causes autism lol but the simple, overt way that most present their messages make it easy for them. So I'm thinking, for normal people who watch it all the time, it must affect personality in some way. I've met a couple dudes way too influenced by naruto for example

>the simple, overt way that most present their messages
Anime is no more overt about its themes than western media.

The smart, well written "prestige" ones written for mature viewers yes, but the ones that target us when we're 8-18. I was having a conversation about this weird dude we used to work with that was obsessed with one piece and dragonball and he was a social retard. I just wondered if less anime in his life would have benefited him in that area

rainbow dash is flat tbqh

No, I mean in general. Have you not seen a hollywood movie in your life? When I saw Rogue One they literally hamfist the word "hope" into the dialogue to make sure you don't miss it.

moe isn't just an art style you dumb faggot
it's an animu philosophy, it's slice of life trash the likes of k-on and all its clones with 'we don't really have a story to tell, but look! school girls doing kawaii shit kyaaaa!"

stop being a newfag pls

you have to pick out the good from it
first two episodes + grieving mother + the "so bad it's good" crossdressing bit

K-On does have a story to tell, though. Did you not understand it? There's substantially far more to it than its contemporaries.

it was uninteresting at best and its focus was only SoL shit with randumb japan humor
it's like the japanese spongebob but even less funny

Yeah, so you didn't understand it. Next time just say so.

So you feel anime has had a positive impact on your day to day interactions?

I was a social retard and didn't watch much anime as a kid. It was because my parents were never around and I spent all day by myself (no friends because parents weren't around to teach me basic social skills) on the internet. The retarded thing was my father thought I could learn social skills by myself by watching movies, literally any movie because "they all cost a lot to make so they must be good". You learn jackshit from watching PG-13 comedies, just like how you learn no english from playing fighting games as a toddler. I don't know, they weren't very smart in this regard.

>y-you just don't understand it!
is that your whole argument?
I'm sorry you like it so much user, but maybe that's why everyone thinks you're an uninteresting creep and nobody wants to speak with you about anything
just sayin

>K-On does have a story to tell

Was ages since I saw but can't say I particularly remember any noteworthy storyline going, pray tell what was this great story and how much more did it have to it compared to its contemporaries like say for example, A place further than the stars?

>is that your whole argument?
No, of course not.
>everyone thinks you're an uninteresting creep and nobody wants to speak with you about anything
No one thinks that, though.
One problem K-On detractors seem to have is that they conflate "muh complex plot" with well executed storytelling. It's a simple story that emphasizes simple things, while giving incredible nuance to its subtle details The characters, for example, are incredibly detailed and well written, even down to their body language and gestures. The secondary characters in K-On have more thoroughly realized arcs than most main characters in anime. This, of course, doesn't even begin to touch upon the incredible animation, direction, and sound design.

>no of course not
>proceeds by admitting it doesn't have any kind of story or anything interesting but 'muh waifus move as if they were real ppl, oh and the sound design too xD'
I see

I'm sorry your reading comprehension is so terrible, little dude.

>The first 2D girl that I refuse to fap to because I suddenly grew standards for imaginary women.

still waiting for you to tell me all about that story and its subtle details user
I'm sure you can make them sound interesting if you try really hard

No thanks. I'll take your childish behavior as evidence of your absolute decimation.

There's a lot of superlatives here, user. But not much substance. Throw out one practical example where it excels so greatly in comparison to the masse.

well that was easy
and very original$

That unique moment when she trips on stage and shows the audience her pantsu and it greatly embarassed, it has literally never been done before, so groundbreaking and well executed.

Right, I'm done with internet for today.

not that guy, but digibro did an 80 minute analysis of it.

>reddit spacing
What a shocker that Jow Forumsanime dipshits didn't like k-on.

Anime in general is pretty shit.

There's a handful of stand out good or at least interesting anime but the majority is utter garbage.

Take Perfect Blue for example, sets up an interesting premise of is the protagonist stuck in some sort of bipolar or split personality disorder? Oh no it's just her manager fucking with her. What a crock of shit and this is in almost all top 10 or even top 5 anime lists.

Cheers

>gur dur l-leddit

The only ones playing that card are newfags themselves. Long before that site even came to be not a single soul gave a shit about an extra carriage return

>There's a handful of stand out good or at least interesting anime but the majority is utter garbage.
So it's exactly like every other artistic medium. Stunning insight.

>didn't understand Perfect Blue
why is everyone here so stupid?

Oh please do enlighten me.

>and this is in almost all top 10 or even top 5 anime lists.
it's also universally acclaimed worldwide even outside of anime circles. it's literally an "i don't like anime, but..." movie.

Not him but this video is pretty good: youtube.com/watch?v=MJmK5SOeQBc

not exactly no, there are only a handful of movies that are so bad people won't want to see to the end
anime tho, people just drop them after the first couple episodes because of how bland they all are

and the reason why is simple, because japan is still stuck on its island and is still trying to cut itself off from the rest of the world, spewing the same jokes over and over again with the same plots over and over again, and because of that you see the absurdity taking over and them needing to go to the extreme to try and stand out from the rest of the crowd, as if to scream for their own identity

collectivism mindset does that to art

It made me become an engineer, so yeah.

Makes me like my Asian gf more. Anime girl personalities remind me of her. Mostly the shy insecure quiet types.

>there are only a handful of movies that are so bad people won't want to see to the end
Imagine being this naive. You know there are literally thousands of garbage festival, bollywood, etc. films made per year, right?

It was a critique of idol culture and how otakus and fans of them view them as manufactured products rather than real people with emotions.

difference is that those bollywood and garbage festivals movies aren't and will never be popular, you'll just read about them on some hipster blog and then never hear of them again
yet 'popular' anime that you'll hear all over the net again and again and will be on every weeb list ever are 9 times out of ten utter trash

really makes you think

>there are only a handful of movies that are so bad people won't want to see to the end
I take it you don't watch very many movies.

Just like you clearly don't watch much anime.

>those bollywood and garbage festivals movies aren't and will never be popular
Right, so, exactly like most anime.

This.

Most people who shit on anime and claim that it's worse than western media are people who don't really have any meaningful interest in film either.

>yet 'popular' anime that you'll hear all over the net again and again and will be on every weeb list ever are 9 times out of ten utter trash
meanwhile masterpieces such as "The Force Awakens" and "Avatar" are some of the highest grossing films of all time.

really makes u think.

no, because I'm comparing popular animes vs not popular movies
definitely not the same here

then again can't expect the weeb defense force to understand the nuance

indeed, I gave up on anime eight years ago or so because of this very reason
because japanese can't do anything but clone garbage and can barely ever come up with anything interesting or new, and when they do they always fuck it up because of popular ratings and wanting some of that otakubux
but then again that goes for their games too, so hey

There's a large amount of good anime it seems like everyone here is just too lazy to find them.

>because I'm comparing popular animes vs not popular movies
Popular anime is no more unwatchable than popular movies. makes a good point. You have to have a double digit IQ to tolerate Hollywood these days.

who gives a shit about the money they got from it?
what?
that's not what makes a popular movie user, everyone saw avatar and yet nobody cares about it or even remember anything about it other than the big blue people having sex with their hair

same for force awakens, it's got its money because people expected it to be good, and it wasn't
how 'popular' do you think that shitfest is?

>user 1: anime is good
>user 2: name ONE good anime
>user 1: ____ is good.
>user 2: ____ is shit.
And the argument continues.

hey niggers RISK thread

I think you're really missing the point here
maybe there are a couple of diamonds in that ocean of shit, but it's still an ocean of shit to go through to get them

and any 'tips' you could find on the net is just another weeb with garbage taste that will point you towards girls bravo anime tier

Oh, so you're arguing that culturally impactful movies are better than culturally impactful anime, and claiming that most people are capable of sitting through culturally impactful movies.

I take it you haven't tried to show anyone 2001: A Space Odyssey or Eraserhead.

>culturally impactful movies
>avatar
>force awakens
okay I think we're done here

I'm a hentai addict but overall it's been positive experiences.
Imagine what other pathetic shit I would cling on to if I didn't have hentai to feed my imagination.

Attached: 813.png (1400x1000, 1.11M)

Really? Is that all you've got to say?

I'm well aware of idol culture and the treatment of them as products rather than people but that's only the first 40% of the movie you've just described.. and i'm the dumb one?

The actual interesting bit is the mental torment and her mental state snowballing into schizophrenia. Then the twist reveal is a damp squib. It's a disappointment, there was much more potential.

>Same director as Paranoia Agent
Ahh well that makes sense. First 2 or 3 episodes are quite captivating and heads into noir detective territory then out of nowhere barrels head first into cringeworthy Jap nonsense.

I'm sorry you struggle with reading comprehension this severely.

I'll name like 40.
Ping Pong The Animation, NGE, FLCL, Hyouka, Cowboy Bebop, Monster, Texhnolyze, Ghost in the Shell, Beck, Spirited Away, Samurai Champloo, Great Teacher Onizuka, Planetes, Yuu Yuu Hakusho, Revolutionary Girl Utena, GitS: Stand Alone Complex, Castle in the Sky, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Haruhi, Aria, Mind Game, Welcome the the NHK, Monogatari Series, K-on, Hunter x Hunter, Tatami Galaxy, Steins;Gate, Psychopass, Kill la Kill, Space Dandy, Mushishi, 3 gatsu no lion and Akira

Well the idol stuff was part of it. There was also her struggle with identity and the pressure she felt in continuing her career in the shadow of being a idol. I haven't seen it in a while, but that's my surface level remembering of it. Not that user who called you dumb btw.

I really want to give you a freepass because you named planetes and gits
but then you had to fucking ruin it with haruhi and fucking k-on

>you had to fucking ruin it with haruhi and fucking k-on
Just because the subject matter of these shows didn't appeal to you does not mean that they weren't substantial or well executed.

No, I'm with you. I think there's a lot of good anime. that's just how every argument goes for me when I'm on Jow Forums.

You probably take yourself too seriously. I bet you also don't like the masterpiece that is the monogatari series because some scenes are too otaku-oriented.
