What do you think of the Reddit system where the most popular comments get shot to the top for eternity and the unpopular ones get hidden? I'm honestly curious why so many people dig that idea.

It would work better if Reddit was anonymous so that people can actually dissent from the hivemind without being judged by their e-friends. Anonymity would fix a lot of things on Reddit.
Either way, I don't use Reddit because the layout looks like garbage.
I browse reddit for textbook recommendations. In that case, voting is a very good system as it means people agree that the book is good.
Normalshit niggers love their dumbass popularity contests which, with the exception of specifically practical situations like , serve no tangible purpose other than to glorify who can type like the biggest cunt and sound like the smuggest pseudointellectual fuckboy.
I don't see any intrinsic value in Reddit. Shitty content aggregator, shitty forum replacement.
It's stupid. It's just another form of control. The masses downvote everything they don't like, not because they may not agree on, but because they don't want to confront it, so they try to make it disappear.
Because normalfags enjoy the hivemind. Voting for the winning side is a team sport to them, knowing the truth is meaningless to them because their side is winning the most internet points.
>I'm honestly curious why so many people dig that idea.
I don't get it either. I dont understand why someone would value a site like reddit. I guess you just have to be a certain kind of person
They do also downvote opinions they don't agree on
Like if someone doesn't really like the new album from a band
Not even declaring it's bad, just saying they personally aren't a fan
It's almost as if our society itself is a mindless popularity contest, huh.
the lack of anonymity is there as a deterrent.
the real issue is the swift punishment for any non-PC opinion, which would still happen if there everyone was anonymous
Reddit is good for reading headlines or about very specific topics where there really aren't many forums for but discussion in an even slightly popular sub is cancer.
i go there from time to time
but it's nuts
i mean there were a thread about unpopular opinions
and people were downvoting the unpopular opinions because it didn't represent them
so the top posts were average opinions
my god are they next level dumb
Its the best way to astroturf and pretend that inconvenient opinions dont exist. NPC normalfags obviously love it
I think Reddit is useful if you don't engage in the discussion and stay anonymous.
For some purposes, Reddit is a great website. The structure lets you curate the content you actually want to see; smaller, more niche subs have a high quality density of content (threads and comments); and allowing users to create their own subs lets endless free, amateur porn flourish. It's amazing. Jow Forums is different in that it provides fixed and fewer boards but the chronological nature of its sorting allows wider variety within the boards to thrive.
On popular subs you definitely see the karma system being misused to bury dissenting opinions rather than unhelpful comments and shitty subcultures that arise from trying to get lots of karma. I like how democratic Jow Forums's comment sorting is, but sometimes that means it gives a louder voice to people who don't deserve it. There are tradeoffs. I like both.
Never used the site except for some obscure downloads, so props for that, but it generally seems absolutely awful.
Just like the majority of the internet tho. They're not particularly awful. Jow Forums is good cause it's anonymous and there's nothing to be won by appealing to the masses so the discussion is genuine. That is practically unique to this website. Identity and popularity fuck the chances of any intelligent discussion occuring everywhere. Not much intelligent discussion here tho, it's full of kids and retards, but there are genuinely amazing people here lurking most of the time, ready to make an insightful post if needed.
>where the most popular comments get shot to the top for eternity and the unpopular ones get hidden?
If you dont see the same thing happening in Jow Forums threads, you are blind. Shitposts and obvious trolls get hundreds of replies, where as genuine comments get buried in the sea of "put me in the screencap"
It barely really affects anything. I've had comments that got downvoted hundreds of times and people kept responding. It only really matters in super large submissions with thousands/tens of thousands of comments. If the submission only has a few hundred comments it's likely the most downvoted comments will still be visible when you sort by "Controversial".
Reddit would be made millions of times better if the default mode was "controversial" instead of "hot", because that means there's some actual interesting conversations going on there. Fuck your "hurr durr, dont downvote based on opinion" bullshit, people will do that anyways. its human nature. Best to make everyone at least a little more informed about both sides using it.
You can set it to sort by controversial by default. I personally find using "New" as the default sort actually gets you more interesting comments. Controversial is basically Reddit: Jow Forums Edition. Just less edgy and more cringe.
You have to understand Morty. The writing prompt moderators are a bunch of little whiny faggots. They spend all their time with their head up their ass, sucking each others' dicks morty. They're like Steven King on Twitter taking a shit while salivating at the mouth for the President of the United States. They're weak Morty.
T-they *burp* wont let me submit my loli exploitation w-writing prompt m-morty like do they even under- *burp* -stand free speech mortis
this was very painful to read, 10/10 synthetic cringe if you wrote this ironically, otherwise kill yourself.
It depends on the sub. If I'm in a niche sub for a certain game or something I don't want controversial answers I just want correct answers which are most of the time found at the top.
You'd dig it too, if you'd ever come up with something to say that other people resonate with. But instead, you're coming here and defecate your brain farts under the safety of being anonymous. I still wish you the worst, for what it's worth.
Absolute dogshit. I laugh at all the pseudointellectuals trying to sound intelligent and simultaneously whoring themselves for upvotes. Sounds like theres loads of censorship too, the CEO and mods sound like massive fags.
>just tell people what they want to hear
Its gay as fuck and you should kill yourself you fucking faggot npc lmao
At the very least, they don't have race bait on their front page all the time.
Kill yourself, redditor fagg
I've been on Jow Forums longer than you've been alive, zoomer.
Interesting. All the normies I know who use r3ddit never really know much about what they're talking about, but they talk about it like they know everything. People I know who use Jow Forums (pol specifically) are much smarter and intellectual. You can have deep, balanced conversations with them, they are very knowledgable, and they are studying something useful in college like engineering, not business or poli sci like the redditors.
Because it filters out a lot of the bullshit, which is Jow Forums's problem.
>pedo anime retard
>I am le ebin oldfag xD!!!
>le zoomer right guyzz!!!???
>unironically uses r3ddit and openly talks about it
Kill yourself.
It filters out wrongthink. It is perfect for NPCs who are easily offended.
How did you know I'm a pedophile?
Either way no thanks. I'll keep using Jow Forums AND Reddit (as well as posting cringe caps on Jow Forums4chan).
Maybe just fuck off to your new home then
Good for you, you sound like a fucking faggot and you are sexually attracted to kids. Kill yourself, redditor faggot.
>weebo pedophile literally bragging about posting on reddit
Opinion discarded.
>Found out I'm gay too
Oh nonononoononono
Jow Forums is my home. I've already fucked off here.
The fact you felt you needed to make a post just to express how much you don't care about my opinion says a lot, user.
>admitted gay pedophile newfag from reddit posting anime
Screencapped for my autistic losers compilation. You're probably a socialist too, you're certainly stupid enough. I'll give you the last word, since I feel bad for picking on a retard.
You shouldn't be so spiteful user. It isn't good for your mental health. I've been here (Jow Forums, not Jow Forums, incase you get pedantic) since 2006. You don't have to believe me. But I don't see what the point of the continual insults are.
Are you trying to change my mind?
Are you trying to get me to leave the site I've spent almost half my life on?
What are you trying to accomplish here? You should really think about that, it would do you well to relax, breathe, be calm.
Just because other anons on Jow Forums are spiteful autists doesn't mean you need to be one.
Hey man, your post and Are exactly what you're talking about. Just wanna say: you make this board why I keep coming back here.
>the site I've spent almost half my life on?
We're all very proud of you
>What are you trying to accomplish here?
Nothing, you're just a worthless normalfag that doesn't belong here.
the idea is in tune to the normalfag npc's characteristic, no scratch that, property to conform and look to the popular majority or authoritative figures for ideas, opinions, culture, etc. They lack depth and identity so they look to whatever is popular and go with that, in this case, they read the comment that has the most upvotes and the most reddit gold and usually take it as the best/truthful answer. normies don't like exposure to unpopular opinions nor do they like to think for themselves, and it's evident if you think back to when you were young; the kids would ridicule, bully, hurt, laugh, etc. if you held opinions or ideas that they didn't understand or didn't conform the popular consensus. this engraves this idea that we must not express our own original ideas, that we must not reveal a part of our self identity, the part of us that thinks, forms our very own opinions and ideas based on our experience in life. no we can't do this, unless we want to receive such negative feedback from our peers. no, we most certainly don't want this a such a young age, we just haven't developed enough, haven't reached the maturity to deeply think about all these things, and to realize that it's all bullshit.
simply put, npcs lack identity and depth, and so they look to others to fill in that void; they follow the popular music, tv shows, politics, opinions etc. and when they are confronted with original thought that exceeds their ability to comprehend, they resort to defensive mechanisms to protect themselves from the fact that they npcs that hold no form of identity whatsoever
>Jow Forums4chan
I hope you're kidding about that part. I can understand posting on reddit, but r/Jow Forums has not a single thing of worth. Unless you really care about getting internet points from children who will eat up any piece of fecal matter that comes out of here.
