Any other medifags on here?

>be me
>bitch boy nurse tech in hospital
>paid minimum wage to clean up shit
>one patient is an elderly lady in her 90s
>chf and pulmonary edema, on her way out
>severedementia.mkv
>needs a sitter cuz she's senile as fuck, hits and screams at everyone, pulls out her IV and shit, tries to jump out of bed
>family said she's been like that for years
>need to let sitter go on break
>sitting next to this patient, getting yelled at, stopping her from faceplanting on the floor
>get bitch slapped while trying to clean up her shit
>dinner time
>she only eats the yogurt
>try to make small talk, ask her how it is
>"It's good! I eat yogurt at every meal."
>wtf first time i haven't seen her act belligerent
>"Is strawberry your favorite flavor?"
>"Yup. I like vanilla, too. I like all the Yoplait flavors."
>"There's one yogurt I like that's chocolate coconut flavored. It's so tasty!"
>"Oooh that sounds really good. I gotta try that one. Where do you buy it?"
>she finishes her dinner, we talk about yogurt for a solid half hour, she was pleasant and coherent the whole time
>sitter comes back
>patient starts screaming at her again
>clock out soon after

next day
>get to work
>mfw she died right after I left last night
>mfw I had to help the nurse bag up her body
>mfw i brought her chocolate coconut yogurt

I've never seen an end-stage dementia patient hold a conversation and speak so well before. I'm pretty sure her brain knew she was about to die and put her at peace for a little while. I was the last person who got to see the real her, not the demented, senile version of her.

We all knew she was about to pass but it was still fucking hit me. First patient I had die on me and first time I had to do post-mortem care. I think about her every time I eat yogurt. Rest in peace yogurt lady.

F

even though she isnt around to do it, thanks for trying to make the old ladies last moments a little sweeter user.

rest in peace yogurt lady

the fuck does chf and pulmonary edema mean?

CHF is congestive heart failure, basically fluid builds up around your heart and it can't work as well. Pulmonary edema is when fluid builds up in your lungs.

It forms a cycle. CHF causes pulmonary edema, which makes the CHF worse, which makes the edema worse, etc. till u die.

RIP yogurt lady

She's in a better place now.
rest in peace yogurt lady.

Sounds like a typical normie "touching" moment where you "learned the meaning of life". I bet the studio audience even awwwed.

Life has no meaning desu. I need feels to keep my mind the depression and the old people asses I constantly have to wipe.

>nurse tech
Literally why. CNA (certified nursing assistant) is like a 10 week course and you make $16/hr starting and don't have to clean up shit anymore. RN is like $35/hr but that requires a bachelor's but still. There are plenty of things you can do in the medical field which make a lot more money

I worked at a retirement community and I remember someone passing away, and specifically remember 2 people talking to each other talking about death and all that jazz, and one of the two in that conversation died like 2 days later - he didn't even seem like he was in poor health; idk what killed him.

Damn why do so many people agree to clean up old people's shit? When I volunteered at the hospital I made sure to never go on that floor

I'm in nursing school, only doing this for experience and networking. The only thing a CNA or LPN cert will get me around here is a nursing home job, and I'd rather work at the hospital.

At most hospitals I've seen and volunteered for, volunteers NEVER cleaned up shit because that would scare them away, and then you wouldn't have free greeters, stockers, etc. They have people like OP who are paid to clean up shit

Reminder that old age isn't worth it.

I found out that I'll have to take a compressed Bio 101 course during the summer to even be considered for Nursing School because the mandatory pre-nursing year requires 2 other classes of Bio with Bio 101 as a pre-req. Pretty sure they did this solely to filter out people who just want to fall into nursing. Hoping I can get into nursing because apparently my school only picks up like 30% of people who apply

>Damn why do so many people agree to clean up old people's shit
If you're going into any medical field, from Orderly all the way up to Doctor, you absolutely cannot be squeamish or hesitant about any bodily fluid. It's kind of expected that if you're in the field, you're going to be dealing with human waste so might as well get used to it.

you do that for minimum wage? id rather work at bk

Good luck user. Nursing is such a rewarding career. I was somehow able to convince my advisors to let me skip Bio 101 and go straight to A&P.

>>she only eats the yogurt
thank you for the laugh user, good luck with your job, it'll get better

I'm not a true freshman, and I've been out of school for a few years, so I don't mind having a refresher as last time I took Bio was years ago. I'll be taking that pre-req and some other classes to help me get a head start. I'm just more worried about getting in because one of the advisers told me that about 200 people apply and they only take like 90

I work in an assisted living place and there's an autistic man (probably mid 40s) who lives there and I have literally only ever see him eat spaghetti or bratwurst with 3 chocolate milks for every single meal. He also fills up a giant mug full of coffee and rips open and dumps like 2 fistfulls of sugar packets into it and takes like 3 sips every single day.

Anytime I see a neet poster, I imagine that's about what they are or will be

The low acceptance rates is such bullshit with how severe of a nursing shortage there is right now. Honestly, I recommend u get a job as a tech. You'll learn a lot before you even get into nursing classes. Plus having experience and medical ppl in your references helps with your acceptance.

I imagine the neets on here losing their feet to diabetes within the next 10 years, too

>The low acceptance rates is such bullshit

Not him, but with my school's nursing program the low acceptance rate is because everybody in pre-nursing automatically applied for nursing school, but the nursing school had a strict 3.5 GPA requirement, and that alone was restrictive enough to weed out applicants. I don't think they'll budge on that anymore than med schools budging on MCAT minimums, no matter the shortage.

>never seen an end-stage dementia patient hold a conversation and speak so well before.
That's very common, in my country we have a name for it "As melhoras da morte" .
That's when a patient gets completely sane/cured a few hours before they die.
Again, very common

Where do you live? Portugal?

Y-Yes Sir, yes I do
