Anime isn't generally for kids. There's a bit of anime that anyone would enjoy (but being somewhere between 15 and early 20s would help enjoying), anime which is definitely for kids, and a shitload of trashy anime you basically have to be really into anime to enjoy. Cowboy Bebop has a pretty broad appeal.

That's just not true.Anime is way too trashy a medium to be aimed primarily at kids. There's definitely anime for kids but whether you look at anime coming out now or stuff that came out 20+ years ago it was never aimed mainly at kids

I recommend Paranoia Agent, it has many themes that no kid would understand, and definitely tackles issues that make for a very interesting watch, lots of things japan likes to pretend doesnt exist, so to see them handled in an anime makes a great show.
