Maybe it is just be, but early 2000s anime culture is superior to what we have today. Everyone was friendly, flirtatious, less consumed with instagram whore/thots and they just wanted to have fun.
But the internet changed that and now anime is best enjoyed alone as the community has become more and more toxic.
I, for one, would flat out up with a little cringe for going back and making the best of things back then.
The anime availability is better today than it ever was though. There is still good anime out there in 2019.
Jace Parker
yep I just watch anime alone and don't really talk about it... I went to a local convention and it was all just cosplay thots. checked out the dealer room, hit some panels, and that was about it
watched some haruhi today and got some nice screengrabs tho
People that liked anime actually liked anime even if it was usually just shonenshit. Nowadays normies just pretend to be lol such weebs xD and like only whatever the current most meme anime is.
Mason Perez
There is more to watch, but not all of it is good. At least ten years ago only the good stuff came over. More or less.
I just watched some Lucky Star, so I can relate. The last con I went to was bad. Dealers room was all geek Etsy and photographers, thots were everywhere. No good panels, no screenings, etc. mid-2000s Otakon spoiled me.
This. I like all kinds of anime, but you are right, today it is all about what your geeky side can do for you socially on instagram.
Jackson Hernandez
Also, Nagato Yuki-Chan best (alien robot) girl.
Easton Carter
I can't really say much about the anime community but I do agree that it is worth it to stop worrying so much about cringe. So many things seem to become boring because people are afraid to do things out of the norm because it threatens their badass image.
Josiah Russell
I suppose it was more "innocent". Even though I did cringe at it back then it's still better than the culture we have today.
Not even sure why they put Kemono Friends on that picture.
Jayden Torres
>pic related so true. hardly anyone these days has even played touhou. but back in my day.............
John Ramirez
I miss when nerd culture was exclusively for whites and gooks
Carson Lopez
>not all of it is good >implying all anime was good prior to the early 2000s Bad anime still existed, user. But this happens with every niche. It gets discovered by more and more people and eventually normies overtake it. I should know. My one friend that I watch anime with literally shows me shitty Facebook memes when we hang out together. It's embarrassing, but this furthers the point.
Cooper Richardson
Not him but it is your holy duty to introduce him to god tier non pleb anime
Parker Butler
There was a period when I got excited about discovering someone watches anime. But then I realized, I don't really share anything in common with them. They're all normies who just watch meme animes and spit out the same tired references. They also decry and ounce of "fan service" and jerk off to marvel shit.
I have bro. We're watching toradora rn. Idk if that's pleb tier but it's good. He's still a super normie
I seriously vibe with that, user. Another one of my buddies likes anime but is really left, hates fanservice because it "depreciates the value of women"
Logan Miller
dragon maid and ow are good though
Nathaniel Miller
this chart is just bait, plenty of good shows on there
Whats with that Plastic Love song? I looked it up and Maria Takeuchi seems like some random hasbeen pop jap singer from the 80s, how'd she become so known among ironic weebs now? It's not even people particularly deep into jap music, it's the basic lofi-radio crowd. And the song hasn't been on anything new in media afaik.
James Martinez
I dislike fanservice, but I'm not a leftist and I don't care about it """devaluing women""". I just don't want lewd things in my anime. If I want lewd, I watch porn. If I want entertainment, I watch non-porn things. I don't need softcore porn mixed with everything. Fanservice isn't so bad in small amounts, but if it's happening 24/7, it get irritating.
Xavier Butler
Apparently youtube started recommending it like crazy out of nowhere, so it became really popular.
Anthony Parker
>fire emblem >ironic weeb Fucking zoomers I swear to god
YouTube algorithm serendipitously promoted the shit out of a particular upload of the song and it attracted many clicks and attention. It doesn't that she's easy on the eyes and it's percieved as artsy and exotic so art hoe tumblr girls eat that shit up.
Kayden Adams
Did she pay off youtube to alter the algorithm in her favor?
Thomas Thomas
>fire emblem >ironic weeb
>advance wars >unironically based and redpilled
Sebastian Russell
I doubt it. She's pretty old now. That song came out in the 70's her career is most likely over. I suppose she can make cash from royalties, though. Anyways, no, I doubt she paid youtube.
Mason Campbell
It's the new logo that started with Awakening, which is when it became far more anime-fanservicey and most popular. That's the point. Old games not part of it.
James Reed
Not that user but I really hate it too. Call me a fag but I've dropped shows because of it. Keep it separate.
Christian Clark
Miku should NOT be on there. She's been around since near the beginning of this place. At best normalfags usually say she's an anime character
Michael White
I totally understand op. My best friend seems to only watch anime for the ~aesthetic~ and she doesnt realize that its pretty much 100% mainstream and doesnt make her different from anyone else/have good or niche taste. She wears her interest in it like a fucking handbag, she even posted sad insta stories about HH being taken down. But hey, at least she's not making vaporwave edits of our pictures together. Normies, when will they learn?
Jace Fisher
Sorry, instawhores dress up as her now so she deserves to be on it.
Joseph Green
>sips approval externally
Noah Cox
>There is still good anime out there in 2019. All anime looks and sounds exactly the same to me, so you implying that there was ever a change in quality seems so strange from my perspective.
Charles Flores
That's fair. I like it because sex sells (and muh dick). Tasteful fanservice is great imo. I don't dislike that he doesn't like fanservice, I dislike his reason for disliking it, which is shallow and he's also virtue signaling.
Sebastian Lee
Hard disagree. There is always that weeb nigga that likes YuGiOh who is sincere.
Gabriel Gutierrez
>posts frog shiggy diggy
Parker Sanchez
Early 2000's anime culture got me onto this godforsaken site.
Bentley Hill
please come back early culture do you think it's possible op?
nah shit always sucked. you were just a dumb kid, younger, less experienced, so you were more easily impressed
Lucas Hughes
I want early 2000s anime culture, or 2000s anime culture in general.
Juan Davis
I second this. Everything went to shit after about 2010 when the industry got obsessed with making extra shekels. You see this in Harem anime a lot, which is called Flanderization (their niche trait becomes their only trait in the show). American entertainment does this all the time. And it doesn't help that normalshits flaunt this stuff around for attention like the histrionic swine they are.
>tfw old enough to have watched anime in the early 2000s but too young to have been a part of the culture
Charles Robinson
>want to watch new anime >every season is full of the exact same school anime with different characters What is this gay shit
Robert Foster
Anime is easier to find, and available in better quality. Anime merch is everywhwre, and no one bats an eye at an anime poster or shirt. But I agree, cons are very insular and unwelcoming, it's not even "attractive" people, everyone is one uping. No one is nice anymore. It use to be a con would have some a tractive beta with a gf next to a neckband and a crazy tho and they would all get along for the weekend. Maybe I'm just old but discord and instagram and all that really ruined it.
Andrew Bailey
This is what I mean. Now you have a neckbeard or loser underage calling anyone who isn't a ugly virgin a "normie" instead of normalfaggot but laughing at it and is serious about their convictions. You see some "normie" with a meme shirt and just assume insread of having fun with the same anime it's from. It's sad and makes it all unfun. It use to be newfags to anime would get brought into the love and shown better series or show. Not just dismissed because how someone looks. Even if they are some normalfag, anime love was suppose to be the great equalizer and everyone ruined it.
Jonathan King
>he thinks old anime wasn't like that The golden age is only golden because you didn't live in it.
I feel like the early 2000 was better than 2010s in general
Tyler Brown
post-irony and cynicism is making everyone miserable
you should have never taken the blackpill
Logan Peterson
I've been to two cons and all it seemed to be was a big room with a load of vendors peddling shitty overpriced unlicensed merch. None of the panels interested me and other than that there wasn't much to do. I didn't get any sense of community from it
Colton Kelly
I still remember my first anime (Love Love?). I loved this because it gave me a utopian (but still realistic) escape from the real world. Today though, all the stuff that haunted me in the real world seeped its way into anime. Konosuba and IS made me want to fucking gag.
Ryan Roberts
>anyone who doesn't like exactly what I like exactly how I like it is ironic or not a real fan! This whole 'understanding' of niches ruined many things.
Hunter Lewis
>people not understanding this image at all the point is that these are the things ironic weebs gravitate too/pretend to like, it's got nothing to do with the quality of any of the things pictured.
Chacha is based user don't diss it
Logan Moore
>LL was first anime >konosuba makes me gag lad watch more fucking anime. 40 some shows a season, since fucking 1960s. If you don't like anime now you probably just never really liked it in the first place or your tastes changed. I was also talking more about the fandom than series, because it's not the same situation at all. My first anime was Gundam 8th MS and I've watchef at least 2 shows a season for almost 15 years now.
Angel Flores
>the point is that these are the things ironic weebs gravitate too/pretend to like That image was made, literally, by a phlebbitor discord group to shitpost on /a/. Just because someone likes something differently than you doesn't mean they are only doing so ironically.
Leo Smith
There are definately people that pretend to be weebs because it's funny. Not so much these days I've noticed but ironic weebs are certainly a thing that exist.
Tyler Lee
>because it's funny And maybe they enjoy anime and having a laugh at it? If your spending time aND money to watch anime or buy merch it's not "ironic" even if someone says it is. It's just a catch all word for "people I don't like in the same hobby". Anime is a medium, with many genres. It's like saying someone only likes movies or music ironically because they only watch comedy. It's a faggot opinion by retarded children who need to feel superior by any means necessary instead of just having fun. Same sort of fags who would have called early 2000 HS girls doing desu montages and anime dances itonic.
Cooper Nguyen
I don't think I know how to describe my tastes. I got into Ore Monogatari and Kanrinin-san a bit. So something along the lines of a relateable MC, Shakespearian comedy/tragi-comedy plot, and a struggle here and there. So something realistic, but charming.
It's not a hobby of mine, just an escape and replacement for bullshit American television.
>mfw Domestic Girlfriend was the last one I looked at >mfw mc sleeps with both of them and then preaches about monogamy 5 minutes later
maybe enjoying anime OP memes and laughing at those, have you never encountered anybody that says anime is stupid I just like the memes?
Alexander Rogers
>that file name >that image Funny. Not every show will be to your taste, as it's a medium of story telling, not a single genre. It's like turning on BBC and being mad at ccck porn. Just change the channel. I love animation, as an art form, so watch things even if it's not something dirctly related to tropes or storyline I like. But you have decades to go through, and many references for shows you may like. Stating anime is X now is a low IQ way of looking at industry trends when they don't exist on every show per season.
Caleb James
i agree now post thighs and join my animu discord uwu
Brody Mitchell
No, but I'm also old. I'd also say if they like the stupid memes it's not ironic as they are getting enjoyment out of it in the same way someone who doesn't like anime but loves doujins is. Its just how they derive the enjoyment us different.
Wyatt Morales
Just seems like rose tinted glasses to me, anime fags were always unbearable. I have fond memories of loving anime as a child in the early 2000s and being taken to conventions by my older sister, but that's just because I was a kid and everything is better when you're a kid. If I went back in time as my current self I would hate all the anime fags back then too.
I don't have anything against ironic weebs (and their out of fashion now anyway) but it's a fun thing to accuse people of being.
Owen Garcia
discord uwu posters are just this generations gaiafags. Annoying sure but I don't understand the ironic meme. If you use and enjoy something it no longer is ironic. And usually I just see other bitter robots here saying attractive people are ironic because they make them feel bad for existing. You'll get over that angst eventually.
Anthony Robinson
Did you get to /ss/? Did she wear cosplay? Post her feet.
Isaac Barnes
I suppose it is too broad of a generalization. But, I'm really suspecting that the anime industry in general is going to suffer the same fate as American television. Just give it about another 10 years or so.
Mason Flores
Doubtful. Their main market is the chinese for streaming serialized, but movie sales in the western world will be huge. And evendors then my backlog is enough to last me 10 years watching 24/7 365 so Its fine. American tv has always been shit anyway, garbage sitcoms or Cowboys and jewish movies. Anime doesn't have that kiked history.
Nips don't care about what gooks and chinks think though.
Landon Gutierrez
But I'm sure they care about what we Americans do. I mean, they have already taken up some of our cultural norms ("sank-yuu," gayru/forever16 fashion, Japan First slogans, Antifa shirts, etc), hence the last pic. And that's why I really think they're eventually going to be on the same path we're going. Just like that last guy who rammed a truck into a busy street because he was pissed about Japan still using the Death Penalty. Also, there are Japanese schoolkids that practice premarital sex now. No shame or repercussions.
Look at the judges for anime awards anime is gonna get westED soon
Angel Cruz
I agree. I long for for the days of 2009-2011. Those were the best two years of my lives, even if one of the years had one of the worst things happen to me. >tfw will never be playing the shitty FF13 game one comfy, post-rain evening in 2010 in my shitty trailer court while listening to Tycho and wondering when Final Fantasy Versus 13 will come out
There's no going back , just be glad it happened at all user
Ian Perry
anyone else here miss scene/emo kids? never thought i'd miss it but the kind of cringy yet innocent and fun atmosphere they brought to the internet was refreshing. way deep down i miss the hetaliafags too
Charles Parker
I just miss people being real and there not being a unified internet culture centered around irony everyone unquestioningly agreed to.
i still have my box full of legos somewhere. it was fun. also, bionicles were the best
Kayden Adams
Wait I read this wrong, wtf are you talking about zoomer
2000-2006 was where it was at. I was a little kid.
Levi Richardson
Japanese comedy is the worst comedy in the world so only their serious shows are worth watching even if that means garbage Shonen shit.
Kayden Harris
>Fire Emblem >comfy GBA games
>Advance Wars >comfy GBA games
Hudson Reyes
I think what made the "old days" better was that we all made dorky anime/videogame-related jokes that everybody else still understood and found funny, but now it's all about "black/normalfag culture" humor like instagram and that tik tok thing
Josiah Allen
Don't worry, m8. I actually liked Hetalia (not for the BL shit though) and I'm still here.
it wasnt adhd fueled. also scene anime crossover culture was god
Dominic Peterson
>black Before I get piled on, I think the blacks were there before the normalfag "weebs" came into the scene.
Evan Walker
>Its not my fault I'm not popular!
Y'know, that show always made me wonder how different Japanese schools are from the rest of the world, particularly western schools ( or UK schools in my case).
Here in the UK, some horny teenage boy would have noticed she didn't hang with anyone and use her to get laid. Would Tomoko really not received any attention.
Jeremiah Gonzalez
Gave that one a whirl without any particular expectations and I must say it was damn good, big focus on story progression and action with near nada lewdshit. It was everything Strike Witches wasn't. Looking forward to the follow up movie in a month or so.
also the anime community has always been cringy, you guys are just feeling nostalgic for a time when your life wasn't as shit
Dominic Edwards
>why anons why?
Why not? Even if you, for whatever fucking reason, wish to scoff at any anime about to air there's still enough backlog to last you aeons.
Agreeing that it's viewed with rose color glasses, also betting that in 2000 the balls hadn't even dropped on most of these fags. Sunrise had a really nice run of shows in the late 90's-early2k's though.
Landon Harris
I used to be so into anime, kept up with the memes and culture on /a/ and all and now I haven't completed a series in 3 years. When was the last time we had a real sincere anime like Azumanga Daioh that could unite 4chins?
Angel Johnson
considering the site is split across 2 sites that should tell you enough
Joshua Jenkins
I barely browse here on my desktop anymore so I don't really feel a change.
Justin Cooper
thats sort of part of the problem too. although it doesnt feel different on pc.
