The categories of alpha and beta are a gross oversimplification and the theory falls apart when you examine it. That said, males exist in a much more hierarchically ordered social environment than women do, and you'd be stupid not to notice the patterns. A woman can make it through life relatively unaffected by her confidence, height, income, physical strength, mental abilities etc. where as men have their life hugely, hugely impacted by these differences. The only aspect of their life where the hierarchical pressure is remotely as high as it is on males is in their never-ending arms race against one another to look pretty.
