I've had much higher counts in game. Starting it around 11 pm BST seems to get me a lot of people. I understand what you mean about a long game but I doubled the rolls so I think it should be balanced.

Well I guess you may be right. Another thing I noticed is that some regions with a +4 bonus have more or less the same territories of other regions that give +6 so that should be fixed too.

Probably somewhere around 10.

Desert and Jungle regions intentionally have lower bonuses
