All I know is that I fucking love niko's story. Every character, every nuiance. it's a great crime drama and satire of modern living, almost like a video game version of the sopranos.

Gta4 will always be the best for me. The graphics were good enough to not be an annoying distraction, and the amount of hilarious shit you can do is just great

i should do the same. its a shame the PC port is god awful.

It's also my favorite game ever, I can go on and forever as to why, but I know you understand. Rockstar have been top notch game makers since the 3D gta's but 4 is just so different, it's over ten years old and I still find new things I've new noticed or encountered before, and i've clocked thousands of hours into it and EFLC. I hear new dialogue from npc's almost every time I play it, sure there are repeats, but if you pay attention you'll hear new things. It's truly lightning in a bottle, I don't think the same people who made it could reproduce their results if they tried.

What's so bad about the pc port? was gonna replay soon and buy it for steam but if it';s that bad i'll get on my ps3

I have to agree with a lot of what you said. EFLC was such a treat too, I loved seeing how all 3 stories intersect. I put so many hours in to the base game and EFLC on PS3 and 360. I'd love to hear more of your opinion user.

The PC port has 0 optimization. I can run GTA V on max settings plus graphical mods and get 60+ but vanilla GTA IV stutters for me

If you're having trouble with running GTA IV it's either your graphics card AMD processors.

IV was the first true "next-gen" Rockstar game, other than table tennis but that was basically a tech demo. It displayed so much innovation for the time, things that we take for granted today, I distinctly remember reading an article before it was released and stopping and thinking "wow no loading screens that to transition from interior to exterior. Everything from the physics to the combat, it's unparalleled. Not to say that it's perfect, but it's absolutely greater than the sum of it's component's. It started the trend of having additional dialogue in missions if you failed and restarted. The in game television and internet, while a bit crazy to think that you'd want to spend time watching tv in a video game or surfing joke webpages, it's just so well connected to the game world and our world alike. the jokes were so ahead of their time. And it's set in such a pivotal moment too, 2008. Just before smartphones, Facebook and the eternal normification of the internet. Everything from you being able to tackle missions like "Lure" anyway you wish to, even finding new ways you didn't think of at first, to you being able to call roman after certain pivotal moments and get his opinion of things. (what he has to say is usually humorous but also poignant and it gives niko hints about the events of EFLC) the cursed heroin, the diamonds, everything. V took two steps forward and ten steps back.

I just played the game again today because I got overwhelmed with nostalgia thinking back to when I would get home from school and immediately load up gta. No friends, no gf, family didnt care, but at least I had an imaginary life in gta so I made it through hs without killing myself. Sad but true.

V's story is shit for two major reasons: first, the switching characters thing was completely pointless and prevented any emotional connection with any specific character because you would be pulled away form them at random. Second, and most importantly, the story for each character was shit. Franklin was probably the least interesting character I have ever seen in a video game, his personality is utter shit and he's written poorly. Michael could have been good if we got to know him better, and his family troubles were too ridiculous to care about. His daughter was fucking drug dealers on yachts and stripping on reality tv? Then theres trevor, who is the only character whose story actually made me feel anything, but who is also crazy just because they needed to spice the trio up. The story ended so terribly too, with the only reasonable option being to gang up and kill literally all your enemies, as if they couldnt have done that before? There's no emotion in it at all. In 4, theres a real journey you see niko take, and you get to know his backstory intimately, making you feel for the guy. The whole rags to riches thing was awesome, getting to go back and visit your old broker apartment after the game ends makes you feel like you've been through a journey with Niko.

I agree completely, IV also has 3 portags but Niko is the main one, also being separate games that require loading a new file solidifies our connection to niko, johnny, and luis.

Fucking hell man, I literally hated Franklin and hated that I couldn't kill him at the end, only Trevor or Michael. His personality is so off, all he does is call Lamar a retard and whine about everything happening to him, and that's supposed to be a character we like? Bs. he has no semblance of a journey, he just randomly gets gifted a huge Vinewood mansion to live in and that's it, he's already got what he wanted, which was to leave the hood. So unfulfilling. The heists were kind of cool, and I guess you can interact more with the world than you could in 4, but it still just feels so much more empty. You don't feel like you're a damaged guy trying to make his way in the criminal underground of a large city with other people in it, it feels like you are alone, doing zany shit like tripping on acid and skydiving.

the one good thing about V's wanted system is that you could hide within the radius of their search, i used to do that in IV and would duck between alleys in algonquin on foot without them spotting me until i made it out of the circle, extremely difficult but possible.

GTA IV had the best online mode desu. I ahet GTA V's online because you can't really have that anarchy based fun you could have in IV.
