lol kill yourself

origina;l

KEANU here, working on new tracks but don't have anything up yet. Don't have much going on tonight though so I'll be happy to stick around and give out critiques. It'd be cool to see some new faces!

I've admittedly been neglecting your posts in the last couple threads. Is there any way to listen to this other than spotify?

Yes user of course

Here's my soundcloud: soundcloud.com/user-262160346

Obviously I did some skimming, but here's my track by track takes

Felt like that opening crescendo took a bit long to gain steam, but once it did that industrial drone with the key chords against it was really striking.
The drum programming on the 2nd track almost reminded me of some old school Aphex Twin. Nicely done vocal(?) pads, although a progressively denser sound would have done well to hold the listener's attention better.
Track 3 felt a bit filler-ish to me, but the chord progression on track 4 with the natural percussive sounds to round it out at the end was quite nice.
Track 5 was the first point in the album that I actually felt actively engaged in. The percussive and glitchy sounds were great, reminiscent of early Xiu Xiu records. Great guitar droning and vocalizations(?). While the drums did progress as the track went on, I felt that overall the percussive patterns could have used a bit more variation given the length of the track.
Track 6 felt a bit fillery, and I wasn't a fan of the guitar tone that kicked in on 7.
8 and 9, while maintaining a good drone, become a bit of a chore at this point in the record. Something like some spoken word poetry or live improvised percussion (or both!) would make a HUGE difference here.

(cont next post)

10 had some great key work, I really appreciated that, although I have to wonder if it would have stood out more in the context of the album if the background drone was dropped and the track took a more jazzy vibe just to serve as an interlude to the final track. The ending crescendo of the drone seems to every once in a while dip in and out of key with the piano work- not so much that its totally unpleasant, but enough to make me wonder how much better it would have sounded otherwise.
While I like that industrial frigid "wind blowing" sound as much on the last track as I do when it appears on the first, overall it feels like the track overstays its runtime given that it doesn't have a crescendo or anything to make it stand out from the rest of the album.

Overall this record, and you as an artist, have clearly defined strengths. In my opinion, a bit more work needs to be done to make this project worth more than a cursory listen though, especially if you want a listener's attention to be held from front to back. Look at some of the classic ambient and field recording albums from people like Brian Eno, or even soundtrack work by Trent Reznor... its possible to maintain a low-key atmosphere and mood while still consistently introducing elements to keep a track moving forward and interesting. How you choose to make that happen will be what defines you as an artist. The groundwork is certainly there though, more so than a LOT of amateur artists in the genre, so keep building on it for sure!

Currently writing my greatest short story to date. I have been writing them for about 5 years... more accurate to say forever but only 5 years I've been scheduling time and taking it seriously. Honestly I'm on to something here. I take too many breaks though because I write what feels like a great paragraph and then I get too scared to plough ahead.

Nothing wrong with taking breaks as long as you're using the time away from working to strengthen your concepts rather than neglecting them. I'll always take quality over quantity when it comes to artistic media

pretty decent instrumentals, very haunting/ experimental vibes
i post musoc here sometimes

Not bad stuff man, although I enjoy your more recent tracks more than your older ones. A lot of dudes who try to work the nerdy/cutesy angle in hip-hop either fail lyrically or can't maintain a decent flow, but you seem to do both!

My main critique is that your vocals come out very dry in the mix on top of your instrumentals. I think a bit of echo/reverb on your main vocals as well as overdubbing some held notes or ad-libs would do wonders to alleviate this

lol in case it wasn't clear, I meant that you DO have good lyrics and flow, not that you fail at both

i'm kind of feeling trapped, but i don't really know what else to do to to to forward in my life
im thinking of joining the army. my family is very happy and saying its a good move, but i feel like a coward. this is just another form of avoiding taking initiative of my life and just having the next 4 years be following orders. i've got rid of most of my things already to just commit to it and make it so i cant turn back. im joining infantry and hoping to do rangers so i have a higher chance of deployment. i realize that air force is probably a better longterm plan or even just doing some manner of manual training in the army for getting a job when i'm out, but in my eyes at least i'll either die and then it didnt matter anyway or i'll have an experience i could never have in any other facet of society.
but the reason i feel like a coward is because im just avoiding taking risks with what i really want to do. a lot of the creative aspirations i've had have been velleities, but as soon as i made this commitment, it's almost as if a switched flipped in my brain that made them active desires. now i'm worried i'll never do them or i'll have no opportunities to just due to the time commitment and how my mindset will likely change. i'm scared of my idea retention failing me and how things will change over the 4 years while i more or less go into stasis. now i'm just hoping i die so i don't have to deal with this shit if i make it back. it's only significant to me if i'm alive anyway.

I'm trying to create my own miniature war game and the process is very slow. I'll be using two armies of small LEGO robots and playing against...myself.

To be a coward would be leech off your family for the next 4 years, only leaving your room to raid the fridge. Even if most of your time spent is following orders, don't underestimate the challenges that you will have to overcome as well. Believe it or not, some people are too weak to get through basic training, even the pussified version that exists today. Anyways, the main point is that you would be earning a paycheck. There is nothing cowardly about a man who earns his keep.

>trying to create my own miniature war game and the process is very slow
kek, I would imagine so! That's quite the undertaking, it will likely take a solid year or more if you get really in depth with it. Think of how cool it would be to pitch your finished product to a branded company though, and imagine if they picked it up and mass produced it! Don't settle for anything less than your best work user, even if you have to use legos to get there

I realized I didn't really address the last bit of your post. If you choose to go the route of the military you will still have down time. As long as your basic living needs are being met and you're not in prison, you'll always have your hobbies and aspirations. Its a part of your personality. If you care about something you will make time for it, even if its not the majority of your time. Don't stress it man

I suppose despite having nothing new I'll post my page in case there's anybody who hasn't seen it yet.

>hardcore, dark trap rap. first song is a collab with a british /mu/tant

It'd be nice to hear that main lead melody do a bit more than the same 2 chords, and more prominent bass line, but chill track overall. I dig the way the drums built up at the end with the echo on the sample.

>originally written and abandoned in 1984 so I picked it up, rewrote and remastered it
lol is that legal? naw jk :D
Sounds like you used a really basic demo kit, could benefit from some tweaks. Those twinkly notes are nice though, they do well to flesh out the lead synth line

>is that legal?

Yeah I know the guy who wrote it, originally a summer holiday-themed jingle

Hey I am Mapguy and I am writing out stuff for the novel series based in the world. Posting map again for reference.

>list out my protagonists
>bird boy slaver who drafts all of his slaves after his drug orchards are repossessed
>druggie slave owner who globetrots to find a new supply
>arrogant bird boy who wasted his inheritance and is getting sent to the jungle to die
>human slave who was sold into slavery because he was so incredibly unlikable
>human undertaker who steals from dead bodies
>slappy whale boy drone supervisor who was bullied so hard he became infertile
>they're all irredeemable pieces of shit
Maybe I should make at least one who is likable.

I have a quick 3 page screenplay I'm working with, that I need to get shot and cut by the end of the month. Tonight I got rid of a secondary thing involving exposition for a future thing and some Italians, and stuck to one location (more or less). The updated version is right here:
