Home Gym Purchases Thread

I've recently inherited a fair amount of money and am looking to build a home gym. What items should I purchase to make it the most useful? I'm aware of the "big items" already, but I'm trying not to miss anything that'd be of use.

Barbell, weights and dumbbells.
Stop being a pussy you don't really need anything else.

buy a fucking anchor and do viking press like true alpha

ahhh a kettlebell is all you need

Besides the standard power cage with a barbell, plates, pullup bar, and adjustable bench, I'd be eager to buy the following stuff:

>Roman chair for back extenstions
>Trap Bar for safer deadlifting
>dip bar attachment for the power cage
>dip belt for weighted pullups and dips
>landmine for whatever landmine exercises you want to do

Spend AT LEAST 250 dollars on a good barbell.

Just about everything else you can buy used: Plates, Dumbells, Gym mats (Just buy horse mats at the local farm you'll save a shitload of money), bench and rack.

That's all you'll need to get started. As you progress you'll know if you need something more.

Things to hang things to the wall with are easy to overlook OP. So you can hang grip trainers etc. On the wall.

- Benchpress
- Leg press
- 5 - 50 kg DB
- Smith machine
- pull up bar
- dip bar
- 4x 5 10 15 20 25 kg weights for bar.
- treadmill optional
- shoulder press
- machine for variations of bicep-facepull-pullups etc
- bands/mats

>Leg press
>Smith machine

I've been thinking about getting a nice ez curl bar for tri extensions because using a full size barbell is kind of awkward

>not having a place to hang your clothes in your home gym

kek

Good power bar is your friend (or olympic bar), so I'd buy Ohio power bar, Texas power bar, Strongarm first or ATX ram bars.

Also consider these dumbbell bars as they're pretty long (I'd buy fair amount of 1 inch 5 kg plates for these).

Also power rack webbing safety catchers are GOAT.

And don't save on power rack no matter what.

This is bare bones essentials
>power rack/half rack/squat stands
If you get squat stands at least get some rings for pullups and dips
>bench
>good barbell
>4x45 lbs/20 kg 1x35 lbs/15 kg 1x25 lbs/10 kg 2x10 lbs/5 kgs 1x5 lb/2.5 kg 1x2.5 lb/1 kg plates
>assortment of bands
I say bands because you can get more bang for buck and pretty much mimic any isolation exercise out there

This is my home gym set up. I also have a Roman chair and a decent bench and safeties. The platform is really nice. Horse stall mats are pretty cheap and very durable.

how do you guys deal with leg flexor/extension exercise without the machines?

And most important of all, BUTT PLUGS.

bulgarian split squats if you count that

Some kind of floor protection if you aren't the only person in your building. The sound of weights being put down is very loud otherwise.

Chains and/or bands can be nice. Dip attachment for the cage is good to have but non essential.

I want to buy this because of it's multi purpose use but i read it's 44 inches long and that taller people have issues, i'm 5'10"
how long is the average bench you find in a gym?

Attached: iu.jpg (800x800, 42K)

You know that it's a step right? You cant use it lifthing heavy weights it's in plastic it will break and you will injure yourself.

amazon reviews say people have lifted well over 200lbs on it, one says he uses over 100lb dumbbells so i don't know.

>taller people have issues, i'm 5'10"

so what's the problem

because your whole length isn't what's going to be laying on the thing, retard. it's based on proportion, some people have more upper body and lower body.

Things I wish I had in my home gym:

>safety squat bar
>chains
>belt squat machine
>leg press machine

But really you only need a squat rack, barbell, weights and possibly dumbbells.

> Not having your own seperate building / garage for gym.

NGMI

It was just a manlet joke, take it easy, autismo

Same here des.u especially belt squat and safety squat bar.

All that space to put stuff on your wall and you cover it with that cringe faggot shit

>buying a plastic piece of shit
KEK

well i didn't buy it yet, i'm still considering the durability. might just go with a normal bench but don't have much space

horse
stall
mats

buy em, scrub em, rinse em, cut em, glue em down. BULLETPROOF flooring for lifting.

Absolutely do not buy this. Even the cheap Titan flat bench would be better. If you want incline, get the Rep Fitness adjustable.

The bench in this photo is the rogue monster, it's solid as FUCK. but not adjustable, of course. You're really going to pay big if you want one that's both solid and adjustable.

I strongly recommend a loadable dumbbell set (i use rogue db-15, which can take full size plates). but if youve got big cash, why not spring for a full wall of nice rubberized ones.

If you've got BIG BOY money, get your own cable machine. Cables have some unique benefits you cant get from free weights, namely constant tension and all the angles you can use, if you get a cable rig with adjustable fly-out arms.

A glute-ham-raise chair is the only other esoteric piece of equipment i can think of that doesn't have much overlap with other equipment.

FYI OP, eliteFTS is currentlt having a big memorial day sale

I would kill for this setup, man. I'm about to get my own place, unfortunately it'll probably be some apartment where I have fuck all for space and I'll probably have neighbors so blasting music will be out of the question anyway.

Very nice, more like these?

I'm renovating soon and am looking for inspiration for my gym area.

here's what i'm talking about. One like these is the dream, but holy fuck are they pricy

post body

name on exercise you want to do on that which you think you can't do with a barbell variant, and I will name a barbell variant to do instead.

That's a great way to get injured. Buy a basic proper bench off Craigslist or something if money is an issue.

Bulletproof advice right here. Rubber mats are expensive as fuck, but for some reason horse stall mats are available for less than half the price you'll find elsewhere. Furthermore - they're usually thicker and easier to work with (because they're not some puzzle piece you have to fit together, but instead a large piece you cut out to fit what you need).

Again - excellent advice.

Find them used on Craigslist. That's where I found mine for like 900, good condition.

ohio bars are overpriced for a home gym, you likely wont have too many dipshits coming around and slamming a fully loaded bar into the ground like a retard

What do you think of putting a frame around the edge of that platform? To keep the boards/mats from peeling up or getting worn at the edges. Or maybe just for aesthetics. I feel like most platforms I remember right now an have an outer box.

Or you could, like, not drag your feet when you walk..?

What's the purpose of a safety squat bar?

face pulls
>just do rows
cable crossovers
>just do bench and dips
and so on
i'm not playing your retarded game. these exist and are heavily used for a reason.

i've thought about it, but moreso I need to prime/seal the board edges to prevent moisture intrusion. Haven't really had an issue with anything peeling up, and if the mats ever did, i'd just use more liquid nails, it's sitting on the shelf ten feet away

individuals with shoulde/elbow/wrist injury may have a very hard time getting their hands in proper position for heavy squats. It makes the exercise inferior but at least you're still squatting.

>empty 9x5 room
>barely enough room for anything
only place i could do it is in the basement but the ceiling is too low.

Attached: 1540599445496.gif (195x300, 2.9M)

You're a bitch.

if the room has windows, put a little indoor herb garden in there.

A stationary bike so you can browse Jow Forums without wasting time

alright fit, what are the bare essentials I should get? the only gyms in my town are planet fitness and shit.
