don't use mixed grip unless you're at an actual powerlifting meet. Doing it when training causes muscle imbalances. If your grip is failing then train grip

Yep, it’s fine. Hook grip also works.

Use chalk.

You should use a normal overhand grip until you can't anymore
Then switch to a mixed grip

i personally don't use mixed grip cause i feel a tension in my bicep, if you feel the same, don't do it
i also never hook cause my thumbs are too short

Use hook grip and chalk.

You will worry about that later. Work on your form to lift injury free

>muscle imbalances

It really won’t. I have never done anything other than mixed (even for warmups) and I deadlift 500lbs+. Thousands of other do to and are perfectly “balanced”

You’re probably overthinking it.

But, OP, if you’re worried, you can use straps. If you’re not going to compete in powerlifting it doesn’t matter really.

No, you should really do DO grip as long as you can then choose your destiny:
>mixed grip
Enter Quasimodo mode for training asymmetrically and risk tearing a bicep.
>hook grip
Crush your thumbs, kills the nerves so you lose feeling over time.
>straps
Get no grip training at all.

None of your options are great, but I got my DO grip to almost lmao4pl8. You just need to train it specifically.

There's literally no reason to use mixed grip. Even if you do it properly and don't cause imbalances, there's still a greater risk of bicep issues.
If you're just training as usual, use the standard overhand grip, and if grip strength is your bottleneck just work on grip and DLs will help with that anyways.
Then sometimes when doing near your max on DLs, and in competitions, use hook grip.

How bad is the nerve damage on my thumbs?
I like the hook grip and can deal with the initial pain, but fucking my thumbs up doesn't seem worth it.

Stop worrying for fucks sake.

Your 3pl8 deadlift isn’t going to snap your bicep lmao.

Yes ignore people trying to say using a weaker grip means they're better. My favorite was some guy saying to switch hands each set, nobody fucking does that. Everyone favors a certain hand having grip imbalances is perfectly normal.

Your grip is not going to be an issue until well after 4pl8. Use chalk and mixed/hook(lmao) and you can train for at least a year with no issues.

I'm fairly new to lifting, like I'm working out for like 4 months give or take. I use the mixed grip only when deadlifts go really heavy, like 150 kg+. Anything under that I just use the normal grip.

Would you curl one arm regular and one reverse grip?
Mixed grip is bullshit

fuck you dude you're giving shit advice and are weak. Nobody serious about getting strong should avoid mixed grip or hook grip. Just don't pull with bent elbows (no fucking shit) and its fine

No but I'd do all lifts the same

It's fine.

Room temperature IQ posts

>mixed grip

IMAGINE having weak grip strength

Doing mixed grip doesn't make your grip any weaker than any other grip you smoothbrain

Double overhand then hook grip.

>avoid hook grip
Reread the post
Literally why would someone prefer mixed grip over hook grip? You don't want your thumbs ouchy?

Lrn 2 hook you Omega male

Beginner is ideal time to start with Hook or Overhand grip. You'll develop your grip as your deadlift increases, rather than an experienced lifter who decides to switch grips later on and realizes his forearms can't handle it.

What do you guys recommend for training grip strength (apart from DL) ?

double overhand until 3plate, then straps or mixed

belt at 4plate

What’s your objection to ? I was going to say essentially the same thing re DO, hook, and straps. Is your point that the mixed grip imbalance and bicep tear stuff is unsupported?

Grippers, dead hangs, chins, wrist rolling, reverse curls....

Use double overhand to strengthen your forearms, don't be one of those wimps that use straps for babbyweight

Fuck man i went to the website and fapped why did you have to mention him

Do rackpulls instead, they build upper back better. I do 5 plate rack pulls 5x5

The imbalances created from hook grip are so insignificant they're not really anything to worry about. You'll get more severe imbalances playing baseball or tennis than deadlifting with mixed grip. We're also naturally asymmetrical creatures so a little imbalance won't ruin you.

If you're a beginner stop thinking about building strength in different areas and complicating shit. Just go lift.

This is the key point.

Imbalances don’t matter.

Will you be visibly bigger on one side as a result of doing mixed grip? No. Will it effect any other lift, sporting endeavour or your life in any way? Also no.

The answer to literally every single one of your questions is: shut up and lift for a couple years. You're building a house from scratch and getting hung up on what color the drapes should be.

this is by far my favorite >shadman pic
