What is /fast/?
>Fast is a thread for the discussion of intermittent fasting, fasting, water fasting, and dry fasting.
discord.gg/qqtQFDQ

What’s the difference between intermittent fasting, water fasting, dry fasting, etc.?
>Intermittent fasting: Fasting for a certain amount of time with a short eating window. 16:8 (16 hours fasting, 8 hour eating window) is the bare minimum.
>Water fasting: Fasting with only water.
>Dry fasting: Fasting with no water. Dangerous, use with caution.

Why should I fast?
>ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3946160/
>ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11147801
>idmprogram.com/difference-calorie-restriction-fasting-fasting-27/
>youtube.com/watch?v=sUhYmNRHFiU

How do I safely do an extended fast?
>Take snake juice, or just supplement electrolytes.
>Water=2L
>Potassium chloride =1 tsp (No Salt)
>Sodium chloride = 1/2 tsp (Himalayan Pink Salt)
>Sodium Bicarbonate = 1 tsp (Baking Soda)
>Magnesium Sulphate = 1/2 tsp (Food Grade Epsom Salts)
>Mix these in 2L of water and sip it throughout the day.
>[OPTIONAL] 2 tbsp Apple cider vinegar and 4 tbsp lemon juice. DO NOT MIX with snake juice, drink separately.
>You can also do this if you feel lightheaded, weak, dizzy, nauseous, etc., on shorter water fasts. Don’t do this while intermittent fasting.

Won’t I go into starvation mode?
>No. The mainstream definition of starvation mode is a myth. Read the FAQ linked below for more information.

Will (something with calories) break my fast?
>Yes.

Can I drink coffee, tea, and diet soda? Or anything with artificial sweeteners?
>You can do whatever the fuck you want. We recommend avoiding those, sweeteners especially.

Do I need a multivitamin?
>No

stay accountable and measure something

Why does fasting make me feel so bored? I don't even snack or eat out of boredom much when not fasting, just a meal makes me feel not bored, I am not sure what it is. I will keep this going but damn, I can't even sleep to kill some time when fasted.

I'm on hour 44. What you bros on?

Attached: 1557365350595.jpg (1025x825, 426K)

4.5. Going to a pool party on Tuesday and I'll break it then.

Snake juice? More like SNAKE OIL.

- Potassium remains stable on a fast
- Magnesium remains stable on a fast
- Refeeding syndrome is caused by depleted phosphorus (not included in snake juice)
- Baking soda is a systemic antacid which causes alkalosis

Snake juice is useless at best and likely harmful.

At 45 hours and I'm getting a wave of hunger before bed. Now I'm watching cooking videos fuck.

Even if you're not a mindless food addict, the meal ritual is traditionally a large facet of the day.

>no mention of sodium
I'm not the biggest fan of the non-sodium chloride ingredients in Snake Juice either, but show me a study where alkalosis is induced with less than a bolus 300mg/kg (21g for a 70kg person) baking soda. Dose matters, slowly consuming 5g of baking soda over a day is not significant to the blood buffering system, it's probably just useless.

Stop watching videos before bed, go read a book (but not a cookbook).

I know I need to stop. Thank you user goodnight friends.

Fucking this, antacidfag btfo

How do I stay out of the kitchen and not look at food my family made for me? I always just want to see if its good

Stay out of the kitchen. You can also try telling them you're fasting. Make up an excuse about being religious or something if you really want to. Mostly just stay out of the kitchen.

I actually told them many times, but they act like I never told them.

Then act like they didn't make anything. Drink your water and become a hermit. Find a subject to study and devote meal time to it.

So I started fasting, my goal is to get from 225 down to 170 as fast as possible.
Today I'm just fasting on water, I'll probably whip up some snake juice tomorrow. Been fasting for 17 hours. I'm at 224 lbs now, even though it's probably like 80% water weight it feels good to take the first pound down.
Tomorrow my goal is to do some lifting, make the snake juice, and do 1000 calories on the exercise bike. I'll do a weigh in everyday.
I was tempted to break the fast tonight and just make my real start Monday but now that I've written this post I feel pretty locked in.

I feel better on magnesium, potassium and sodium so I'm not about to stop drinking it because of some fag's studies, but this makes me wonder if we can add phosphorous to snake juice somehow.

When you post please use the name "Antacid Fag" so we can add you to the board's culture. Thanks.

here's a study when they looked at what was happening to fasting people, and decided to give them baking soda to lessen the amount of protein wasted
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6287864

For reference, they used 150 mmol baking soda here, which is 12.6g, over double what's in the snake juice recipe.

2. But I'm only doing 16:8 IF.

If I fuck up my fast for the day, I always eat trash later on, like I just ate a pile of cookies. But I'm fasting again.

The desire to binge when you make a mistake is the worst part of the fasting lifestyle

Do you get it too, or are you just saying i am a fuck up?

I got around the desire to binge by constantly telling myself that if I get too hungry, I'm allowed to binge on anything I want as long as it's healthy. For example, I can go eat a pound of salmon amd a pound of rice if I really feel like it.

It happens to me too

>pound of salmon
that is beyond disgusting dude. i can barely eat one bite of salmon. it literally makes me throw up

But muh protein. Anyway, substitute salmon & rice with whatever you enjoy that isn't for fatties.

Sounds gay to me.

>fast + exercise for months
>good progress and gains never met before
>friends and family find out I starve myself and get angry
>go back to 3 meals a day
>forced back into the fatty pit

It was nice while it lasted.

Finally managed to hit 24 after struggling with cravings but it was easier later in the day. Ate five drumsticks and a cupcake. Feel pretty bad about the cupcake but I don't think it should fuck my ketosis too hard, will it? Either way, gonna shoot for two days now, then three

>people are mad at me so I have to eat more often and get fat

You must be 18 or older to use this website. Not sure if manlet or grill, post tits either way.

Is peanut butter for fatties?

Salmon is really good if you eat it with scrambled eggs or put lemon juice on it or both

Listen to the Snakeman. If you're doing something that most people don't even consider feasible and it makes them angry to hear about it, you're on the right track because most people are fat, depressed, or both. Start fucking fasting mate. Research the benefits to regain confidence and tell your family they haven't researched shit while you hit them with knowledge. Worst case scenario they can't force feed you, at most they can beg you to eat and you just ignore them at that point.

Way too much sugar. You definitely are not in ketosis. Ketosis starts after your liver depletes glycogen, and reintroducing sugar totally fucks everything up.

Cupcake will nuke ketosis lol

Nah. Watch the McSnake diet video. Cole goes to McDonalds and just eats a shitload of quarter pounders, salad, and peanut butter between fasts. If you gotta choose between a bunch of cookies and peanut butter, just eat the peanut butter dude.

keto should be nuked from orbit though

Keto is a meme diet but if you're not in ketosis you ain't burning fat.

>find out I starve myself
Fasting is not starving. Unless you're underweight.

So something was working and you stopped it because someone said the magic word "starving"? Have some self respect to know what it means and don't listen to people who misuse it.

What's wrong with keto? Other than eating fifteen times a day and making carb imitations of course

Yes. Shit tier lipid profile, low quality protein, far too easy to overeat. Avoid unless you're trying to gain weight.

Also speaking of fish, I made a great fish pate today. Take the mackpill:
>can of mackerel, drained, don't even bother skinning or boning it
>saute in half a stick of butter, add some capers & herbs
>add a brick of cream cheese to soften
>add some lemon juice, salt & pepper to taste
>blend well, chill & serve

One serving has like 280kcal and almost a gram of omega-3, I ate it on cucumber slices. Came out great, cheap to make too.

Eating more carbohydrates than you need to replenish muscle glycogen is suboptimal, fight me nerd

Well it is a way of depriving yourself of food. To normies, eating once a day is unthinkable. To not eat for several is almost akin to the holocaust.

>What's wrong with keto? Other than eating fifteen times a day
..?
Keto has never meant eating fifteen time a day, lol. You can keto on omad or anything else.

What is a good intermittent fasting schedule to get on? Is 16:8 good or is it better to reduce that down to say a 18:6?

MINIMAL eating windows. 2 hours is realistic for literally everybody but if you can get it down to 1 hour, even better.

you're fine. I do two servings of chipotle rice OMAD and I stay in ketosis just fine.

It was an obvious jab at the keto culture

Day 7, who else watching Cole live?

Gotcha, thanks for the answer.

What?

Are we suggesting that the keto crowd is not one of the most common crowds to be interested in intermittent fasting and general time restrictions on eating? I just tried googling "ketogenic forum" and the very first result has a section on fasting. And keto YouTubers are always talking about fasting.
Sounds like someone just has a dislike for keto for no particular reason.

Actually reading this study and the general idea I'm seeing is there's a minimum amount of protein needed to be converted to sugar for specific organs that only run on sugar, but this value bottoms out after 2 weeks as your body slowly accepts it needs to conserve more muscle in the event food becomes available to hunt again.

But the real issue that adding sodium bicarbonate counters is that your blood chemistry becomes increasingly acidic when burning pure body fat for energy. As such it cannibalizes a minimum amount of protein to convert to ammonium which is a base to ensure pH balance. The study showed less ammonium being produced with some bicarbonate being introduced to the body. Also, potassium chloride was added in the study to aid in this balance and seemed important to the equation but they don't seem to detail. My best educated guess is it aided in pH levels by also acting as a base of sorts.

Thus, the guy claiming the bicarbonate will alter blood pH was accurate, but the whole point was that it does do that. It aids in reducing muscle loss by removing the body's need to correct pH itself. The study only introduced the pH balance 2 weeks into a fast when protein loss had plateaued to further reduce it. This is likely to show results without fluctuations in body chemistry rather than before then it does no benefit. I imagine for any fast over a week it can have minor benefits to use. Short term fasts it will have no real benefit because the effect will be minimal compared to the body's overall mechanisms burning protein for sugar to begin with. The change was also fairly minimal and if you need to do extended fasts because of weight you've got next to nothing to lose and can work on that when close to goal weight. Part of me imagines Cole recommends it because his fasting style now is yo-yo weight loss with actual muscles to showcase it and is min/maxing.

Interesting study. I wonder if they've done another one with a larger test group.

Found the reason for the potassium. Just covering their asses on the off chance the fasting reduced potassium in the bloodstream or the experiment potentially reacting with it. Nasty effects if you lose potassium and they didn't want to take any chances which they highlight as one of their concerns to using this method, but never saw an issue in the study.

Seeing as the bicarbonate and potassium were added at the same time they had to note that in their conclusions as the benefits may only have occurred due to both being used together. Not that their discussion suggested a link.

The rest of the study is mostly just analytical chem explaining how they got their numbers. There was also a paragraph of possible concerns, but the only one I haven't touched on was kidney issues with bicarbonate. In the obese test subjects nothing was observed, but there was a study done before that had some concerns with bicarbonate during fasting.

Citation of that older study if anyone cares to read that themselves: STINEBAUGH, B. J., AND F, X. SCHLOEDER. Glucose-induced alkalosis in fasting subjects. Relationship to renal bicarbonate reabsorption during fasting and refeeding. J. Clin. Invest. 51: 1326-1336, 1972.

as a neet there was a post a few threads ago that i saw about people snake juice fasting and then walking like 10 hours a day ...i guess the idea behind walking being its almost impossible to get hurt doing it

is this possible? wouldnt you get blisters after a few hours or days? i would think you could burn like 3lbs a day if you had enough free time to just exercise

Not if you have properly fitting socks and shoes.

Hour 60 of a 72. Going to bed soon, get to wake up and break the fast. Feels really good to have accomplished this. I didn’t think I had it in me but it was surprisingly easier than I expected.

One thing that really puzzles me though. I have been testing my piss with those ketostix. Most of the results are trace levels. What gives? Shouldn’t I be testing higher by now? I’ve literally had a few pinches of salt, lots of water, and some carbonated water. The carbonated water is home made, with just tap water and CO2 injected into it.

Before this fast I was OMAD keto on weekdays and cheating on weekends (both on the OMAD and the keto). Perhaps that explains why I’m not pissing high levels of ketones?

If you're not sleeping enough it can fuck with ketosis. Aside from that, if it's your first time fasting you may have had a lot of glycogen stored in your liver that your body had to expend before it even got into ketosis.

There are basically 2 possibilities here: you're really bad at getting into ketosis like user above suggested; OR, you're fantastically efficient at getting into ketosis and regulate your ketones so well that you don't excrete hardly any. I'm definitely in the latter camp myself, the sticks are useless for me, blood test is the only way to confirm. As long as you're fasting and aren't ravenously hungry, you're doing something right.

What can i eat/drink to break a 24 hour fast if i dont have bone broth or ACV?

Chicken soup? Water with salt?

Whatever you want. A day without food shouldn't have done much to your digestive system. You might just get full faster. If the goal is weightloss and future fasts then limit carbs.

I'm one meal a week for like 6 weeks now. Down 35lbs so far. My eating day is Wednesday, gonna be at the beach this week. Gonna have some board walk pizza and fries. Can't fucking wait

24 hours only? Eat whatever the fuck you want dude. Try to keep it low carb so you don't spike your insulin like crazy but it doesn't have to be fullblown keto either. If you want to ease into it just make a soup.

It'll be disappointing if you've been doing low carb until now. You'll feel unsatisfied and lethargic as fuck. Get something a bit more meaty.

Gonna have some hot wings at hooters too.

If I'm a fatfuck with a lot to lose what's the best strategy? A single super long haul fast? Several 5-7 days plus exercise? Alternating feeding days? I've got about 65 to drop.

>no socket hex washer sheet metal screw

Do you even fasten?

Attached: 008236722352_ca.jpg (400x400, 37K)

Serious advice, whatever works for you. Start with something simple and work from there. Easier to stay motivated. So try skipping breakfast every day, then try either one meal a day or fast every other day, then see how that feels. Also, best advice, cut all liquid and refined sugar out of your diet right now.

In reality, if you can actually handle it, a straight full fast down to goal weight starting right now with mild exercise every day would be fastest. It's also the most likely to demoralize you if you're not used to fasting and don't have a solid support system around you.

I've already done shorter term fasts (2-3 days mostly) for a few months and dropped like 35lbs because of it. But I'm frustrated at the pace and irregularity. I just want this horrible tomb of fat to be gone. If a long haul is what it takes then that's that.

If that's the case, then good luck with that. I hope things work out for you.

"Best" is subjective. A single long term water-only fast is obviously the quickest. It's also very healthy and will have autophagy benefits. But you've got to do what works for you.

You could start with HFLC until you get into ketosis, then intermittent fast, then reduce your feeding window until you are doing OMAD, then try a 36 hour fast, and continue with prolonged several day or week fasts. This reduces the willpower needed.

Fasting can take practice. Take it at your own pace. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good enough.

Be patient you shit. Impatience is what got you fat in the first place. Do a routine you can follow up on every single day. Eat low carb OMAD or just do 48 hour fasts with 500 calorie refeeds back to back like Cole recommends. If you can fast for like a month go for it, but it's better to try to build a routine that you can stick to. Also watch Cole's hour long videos when the hunger pangs kick in so that he can scream at you about how fat you are. It's very motivating.

I thought water only was dangerous for long periods of time.

Only if you stop taking salt as well.

Based on my researched spurred by shitposting over the past few days, as long as you keep your salt (NaCl) up and stay hydrated you should be fine. All the rest is based on minor studies trying to get the most out of a fast or cover their ass for safety when overseeing a fast.

But of course, take everything posted here with a grain of salt.

Great, so snake juice it is then.

People have burned 30 kilos in 4-6 weeks
I can do the same too
fuck the normies who think anything above 0.5lb a day isn't real

just don't eat lmao

It's real. Especially when you're obese.

I am a walking barrel of lard

No one is denying that you can't lose a lot. The .5 lbs figure has to do with people of typical weight.

Have fun. Go on your fast and once you've put the typical water back on after the fast ends you can calculate and let us know the weight loss per day.

Can I go 20 days without eating if I'm man enough to enjoy fasting? I'm just using salts, no soda or anything.

If you've got the fat to burn yes.

hi /fast/,

how can i lose 38kg? My kpop waifu is going into my country on june 29, i hope you can help me.

She won't meet you it doesn't matter
And no you'll not lose 38kg by June end
