What does Jow Forums think about lentils? Especially red ones
pros >cheap >plenty of fiber and protein >required no chewing so you can be eaten with minimal effort >doesn't require soaking but can optionally be to reduce anti-nutrients >takes only 10 min to prepare
cons >anti-nutrients (black pepper can be added to counter that) >taste (add spices or some sauce)
someone here told me people in Jow Forums don't care about taste, so you better start eating those lentils like eating ass

They taste great when made into soups, dhals etc but I've recently been using green and brown lentils for my lunches for a low fat meal. I thought just boiling them in water and adding stock would be enough for them to taste okay but I was wrong. Also remember that the protein content is dry weight so take this into consideration during your meal prep

Make a lentil curry. Loads of curry powder, garlic, cumin seeds, peas, good stuff

lentils are great. I use them in pretty much anything - that or beans. You can make so many different stews and soups with it

if a con about of food is a taste its not a good food

It doesn't taste bad it's more that it doesn't have much of a taste but like I said you can easily improve taste with spices or adding some sauce or incorporating it into your dish so it simply adds bulk

Lentils are ok, but I think I just avoid making them because they're boring and quite nutrient-dense. It takes at least 25 mins though, you want to cook them for more than 10 mins.

This user knows what's up. I like to add red curry paste, turmeric, curry powder, and garam masala, along with a shitload of onion, garlic, and ginger. Tastes awesome like that. I've never put peas in mine though, I think I'll give that a shot next time.

they're a carb/iron source, but they make for a terrible protein source
100grams of them has only 9 grams of protein, while having 20g of carbs, not to mention only half the protein in them is even bioavailable, and the protein left isn't even complete it's lacking in cystine and methionine
Phytoestrogens are good, though. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15234258 >We used a phytoestrogen (PE) and a phytoestrogen-free (PE-Free) diet to determine whether or not diet can have neurobehavioral effects on intermale aggression in Syrian hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus) >However, the PE group had higher levels of testosterone (9.0+/-0.95 ng/ml) compared to the PE-Free group (4.6+/-0.98 ng/ml) (p

This guy's test went up after adding in more onions.
I never soaked these fuckers. Just straight up boiled them for 30 minutes and voila. Next thing I know, my bilirrubin levels are through the fucking roof. Turns out my excesive consumption of lentils was causing a certain degree of hemolysis in my blood cells hence rising my bilirrubin. It´s a miracle I didnt turn yellow considering how much I was eating these. Stopped eating them and my levels went back to normal.
If you keep eating them I recommend soaking properly. I dont have the patience for that so I ditched them from my diet. The antinurtients and the aglutinine that comes with them really made it a deal-breaker for me.
