Here’s what you need to understand that fast fags won’t tell you:
Fasting for an obese over 30% bf person is a good way to dip down to like 20% bf, and then start doing it the right way. Someone who has never touched weights too.
If you’ve lifted for a while, gained muscle and strength, then fasting is not for you. They use the argument that our ancestors would go through periods with no food, but our ancestors also didn’t lift. They had endurance based physiques meant for walking all day, so they didn’t have hard gained muscle to lose like someone who’s spent 3 years lifting would. They want to tell people all the bullshit about that and hgh spiking because they are just a subclass of incel robots. Rather than cling to titles like “neet” or “incel” they found fasting. They feel like they belong to something productive and healthy and it defines them, so they will try to make it seem as good as they can despite the fact that the only people who look like they actually lift are the occasional photos from the thumbfaced manlet snake diet guys instagram, and even they look like shit.
Tl;dr: save yourself the trouble and do what’s been proven time and time again. Slight calorie reduction while continuing to lift the same and maybe slightly upping cardio.

lol. successful science based bodybuilders and coaches nowadays predominantly slow bulk then mini-cut for 3-6 weeks in the off-season, and do traditional longer cuts pre-show. no one successful fasts because fasting is not optimal for body composition or performance.
i'd go so far as to say fasting is useful only as a tool for improving dietary adherence and long term weight management, which is massively important. but trying to argue that fasting is anything more than suboptimal for body composition is like making the same argument for veganism - there are always those who wish that were the case, but it's just not.
i will say however that for 2 weeks or so, losing muscle is difficult. after this point though, you just will not retain muscle well at all, and most of the studies that find low levels of muscle loss were in either using untrained individuals who aren't fighting against their bodies to add muscle it doesn't necessarily want, or were too short term to facilitate any meaningful insight.

I believe Fung has posted the science, but because of the HGH spike you conserve more muscle relative to the amount you would have lost via CICO. However, since you're losing more weight with fasting it typically means more muscle lost in absolute terms. IIRC the ratio is ~90% fat lost for fasting vs ~75% fat lost for CICO.
