Is there any reason to do these over OHP in front of your head/delts?
I don't even think they're as dangerous as people make them out to be, but what's even the advantage of it over in front?
Behind the Neck Press
behind the neck doesnt feel natural and fucks up your should joint
probably hits rear delts more
Doing it with a snatch grip is good accessory work for your snatch.
better middle delt development then standard ohp.
Jeff said not to do them.
Will they destroy your shoulder when done in moderation and carefully? Probably not.
Will they get you gains not achievable with other exercises? Probably not.
Literally destroys your shoulder joints. Don't do it. Ever. I had a couple of dudes train at my gym sometime back and one of them did behind the head OHP and snapped his shoulder and was taken to the ER
Better shoulder isolation without involving chest on lifts, start with the bar and work your way up
t. shit mobility
Doubling this.
Not him, I'm decently flexible and stretch regularly for judo but anything behind my neck feels unnatural and hurts my shoulder joints if I go too low. I can't be the only one
Martial artist my entire life. Wrestling, karate, kickboxing, muay thai, boxing, bjj. 155lbs 5'8" stretch every day...yea it fucks up the joint dont do it.
I guess it depends on each person. For me, they feel completely natural and give me no pain. I guess it develops more the shoulder muscles because it eliminates any pec involvement and forces you to make it strict, like some people who ohp end up standing incline bench pressing
I went as far as one plate for a rep with these, but never done them seriously, my coach doesn't include them in the program (he should in my opinion, I'm gonna ask him)
t. "Oly" Weightlifer
Karate, judo, and bjj at my gym but judos my favorite
Practicing any kind of locks always scare the fuck out of me, even with my trusted friends...
Just a bit more pressure and someone is fucked
Nobody cares about your
If you have the mobility, do them. They were a staple for old school lifters like Arnold, Doug Hepburn, and basically anyone from the golden era.
Sometimes I do them for 5x5 as my main pressing exercise. Sometimes I superset them with lateral raises.
You don't have to go TOO low. If it's uncomfortable for you, just lower the bar halfway down your head, rather than all the way down to your neck.
6'5/205.
OHP 135, Bench 205,
Karate when I was younger stretching bare minimum 10 minutes helped me so much. Also as soon as I feel the sub is locked in I tap. I'm not a drooling neanderthal
>"checkmate"
>"we'll see about that"
I'm assuming you watch jon jones, remember Glover texeira fight? I just bring it up because I've been sparring alot lately with standing subs that are designed to maim I guess? Wondering if jude does anything similar.
you aren't the only one but you lack shoulder mobility if you can't do them safely
no one is saying you should press behind the neck, just that it's perfectly safe
>just that it's perfectly safe
not if you're pressing some actual weight
if it's too high you just can't press it fucking retard.
post vid with you pressing >1 plate behind your neck and not fucking up your shoulders
I just like getting decent practice, but once anything is secured I tap quick
There are standing locks and they've shown us, but we focus on getting locks after the throw/takedown for control/submission/maiming
>with a snatch grip
Yup the good ol Klokov press. I only do BTN presses with a snatch grip.
shit physique and numbers but good explanation user.
If you have good mobility do them, if not, dont force yourself cause you're gonna get seriously injured
its gonna kill your gainz
>I DON’T THINK THEY ARE AS DANGEROUS FOR YOU AS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME THEY ARE! THEY MUST BE LYING!!
This is how retarded you sound, they will fuck your shoulders. Don’t be stupid.
