Guys. I have a problem. My lower back. I think I have a herniated disc/ bulging disc.
I’m depressed. I’m seriously depressed. I don’t want to wither away like all those boomers at my gym who half rep everything.

SHIT SUCKS just getting over my bulging disc, took me maybe a month theres nothing u can do but wait it out.
Try to get into a physical therapist as soon as you can. They will diagnose your injury, and I also for sure I thought I had herniated a disc, but it turned out to be something completely else. Now a couple weeks out from PT I'm 100% better and back to deadlifting
Basically was deadlifting 455 x 5 conventional. Happy as fuck i went back home and was chilling on my chair when suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my lower back.
I just thought to myself that it was some bullshit nothing and will go away in a week or two. 8 months later and I still have it. It got a little bit better ( doesn’t hurt when I walk or run) but at random times I get reminded that I have a fucked up spine and I am to blame. I hate myself for this.
I been trying to work around it. Stretches, no deadlifts or squats... in fact I haven’t done legs ever since it happened...
how would one self-diagnose this problem?
not being able to bend at the waist or touch your toes? Or is it physically apparent?
What did they do to you at PT?
They essentially show you how you can rehab your injury with their years of knowledge and knowing the insides and out of your injury.. They'll do stuff like stretch you out, show you mobility/stretching exercise you can do, tell you what muscle imbalances you have and ones that you can strengthen. Go to a license physical therapist though, not a chiropractor
Shit sucks, herniated my L5 in January, haven't been able to really lift since. Lost 50lbs so far. And I was 13% body fat before.
another one for the deadlift meme.
Deadlifting/squatting claims another.
Tell me that this isn’t over for me. Please
Im willing to bet money you dont consistently train you abs and core.
CONSISTENTLY TRAING ABS AND CORE WILL HELP PREVENT LOWER BACK ISSUES
You may get rid if it, but it takes years or maybe even decades. Yeah it is over. This is your only body, don't over tax it.
Abs ARE core.
True deadlifting and squatting has never been tried before.
It's not-- go to a PT and don't listen to shitposters on Jow Forums. You probably won't be able to deadlift heavy for a long time, though. Also, train core, brace properly, make sure your mobility is in order, etc.
You'll probably need physical therapy. Why the fuck did you not go to a doctor sooner? It's been 8 months and you're still feeling pain. When I was a retarded 16 year old, I thought I had a herniated disc because my lower back would hurt after I squatted, and I'd occasionally have sharp pains in my back as well. I got super paranoid and took a break, and it went away after a week or two. But if it lasted any longer than that, even my retarded ass would have gone to see a doctor.
GO
SEE
A
DOCTOR/PHYSICAL THERAPIST
I think if you're ever feeling sharp pain or high levels of discomfort in your joints(knees, elbows, etc) you should stop whatever the fuck you're doing. Take a break, see a physical therapist, or reassess your form completely depending on the severity of the issue.
Pretty much this.
Go and see someone about your back if you haven't already.
From there, work around it, and if you get any recommendations to strengthen your back, back sure you follow them.
>8 months later
Dude the longer you leave it alone the worse, go to the clinic now and get that checked. Unrelated to back pain but my other friend had a lingering pain for years in his arm, went to chiropractor and they gave him stretches and home remedies to do everyday and it went away. it's possible to fix it as long as it's not srs
True but they arent obliques, etc. Sittups/crunches alone arent enough, you have to have a comprehensive core routine 3x a week minimum
run every day retard
Oh yeah, additional info.
You will probably be deadlifting again, because it's ironically the best exercise to help heal an injured disc.
I’m gonna book an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and hopefully they have open spaces on Tuesday.
This is really fucking with me guys. I’ve been having a lot of negative thoughts about death and suicide because of it. I hate myself for disregarding my body so much. I hate myself.
don't let it get to you too much, this is easily reversible if you approach it right and don't wait any longer. stay strong breh
Ill try my best. Thanks for help guys. I just want a pain free healthy life.
Is it in the muscle or in the spine itself?
It’s pain and electricity shooting down my leg.
YOU STUPID NIGGER YOU SHOULD HAVE MADE THIS THREAD THE MOMENT YOU FELT SOMETHING WAS WRONG
I can't believe you made me come into this thread to help when you pulled some stupid shit like this but I'm already too committed to posting
Alright here's what you do
I want you to go to the gym and see how heavy you can squat for 5 reps before you get discomfort
I want you to do 75% of that for reps of 5, with perfect form
I also want you to do very high rep deadlift romanian, 30 reps per set, at a very light weight, perhaps start at 95lbs, or 1 plate, whichever you can do for 30 reps without even the slightest physical disturbance that reminds you of your spinal damage
You want to do these deadlifts 3 times a week, and you want to do these squats twice a week, and you want to ice your back regularly
I want you doing the stretch you see on the left every day if possible, and before you workout, and after. Dead hangs from pull up bars are also good, but the one on the left is more important.
I also want you to do a stretch where you lie on your belly, then lift up your torso, and keep your torso upright with your hands, sliding your hands as close to your body as possible to get your torso as upright as possible while keeping your hips on the floor, google image 'lower back stretches back extension' and you'll see what I mean
If you can see a PT that'd be optimal but this is a 'DIY therapy' I used to overcome my disc issue
We have the same thing, this is beginnings of sciatica
I don’t get discomfort when I lift. I could deadlift you my heaviest max right now and feel nothing because of adrenaline and blood rushing theough me numbing me the fuck out. The pain would start the next day or a day after.
I’ll do the deadlift thing though. And i’ve been doing a lot of stretches like the piraphormis stretch and what not.
Oh and also because i have no pullup bar at home, i just use my dresser. I push myself up with my arms and that decompresses my spine. In fact im doing it right now
See a physical therapist or a specialist first before following his advice breh.
His advice is really good tho. You only have one body, take care of it. Lifting through sharp pains or joint pain and not getting medical checkups is the stupidest fucking people do.
Op i saw you mentioned pain down your leg, and I don't have any good news about that. When I fucked my back on the leg press and went to see a doctor, one of the things they asked about was if I had pain in my legs. They explained that it's good I didn't as it'd indicate a much more serious issue.
you just had to do memelifts didnt you?
now your actually dead...lift
Sounds like sciatica. See a PT or a doctor
This is because you want back pain to be as centralized as possible. When its more off to one side, this indicates that you pinched your sciatic nerve due to a compressed plate, and is generally chronic and sometimes the only solution is to fuse the plates if it becomes too much.
Damn, I've always hayed myself for going on the leg press that day, but at least I can be glad I didn't get anything like that.
I have a fucked up back too buddy.
Deadlifts and squats are not something you are supposed to do with that much weight. Hope you learned your lesson.
Have sex
microdiscectomy
Unironically try this out, especially the second step. I had some long term back pain and this helped out. youtube.com
You seem cute. Now that you're fucked, wanna be my paralytic bf?
lmaoo this is what i thought too he looks hot
Im sorry for what happened to you OP but how do i avoid this from happening to me? total beginner and hasnt started lifting yet and now im scared?
good form, mobilize your hips, strengthen your core, and don't be a retard when it comes to increasing weight
is watching youtube videos enough for me to have proper form? i dont have a trainer anymore and i dont wanna ask people in my gym..
yeah im sure ill take it easy with the weight. im not even planning to go all out i just wanna casuually lift. but shit im still scared
periodically record videos of your lifts and watch them to see how you can improve your form. You can also post here or on reddit for a formcheck
Did you avoid the doctor because you are in burger land and affordable healthcare is illegal?
try reverse hypers desu
