It is now.
For our generation and beyond.
Definitely call the top 5 favorites back. But your expectation is warranted, just is not the reality, unfortunately.
Yes, for losers like you and me.
In places worth even living you send on average two hundred applications out before receiving even one interview, even with secondary education. Live in the middle of nowhere, no car, no second education, there is no point in trying.
I only applied for shit jobs and still can't get a call back.
that's nothing, many companies don't call me back until 1-2 weeks later
user, you're worthless if you don't have friends who can get you places. How old are you?
>user, you're worthless if you don't have friends who can get you places. How old are you?
20 and I know that. But what am I supposed to do
Best bet would be showing up to some fast food restaurant and applying in person. Give them a firm handshake and all that. It shows confidence and it's harder for people to reject you at your face.
>complain about no calls back to normies
>normies brag about how send 56 applications at a time
Jobs with less qualifications have more competition. Mcdonalds is harder to get into than harvard satistically, same with walmart.
Where did you apply, user? What are you looking for?
>Where did you apply
I just want a job because I'm sick of being broke. Applied at the local supermarket and for all the other minimum wage shit jobs in my area. There aren't many.
>send job application for apprenticeship
>get a call to set up my interview the same day scheduled for next week
Fuck fuck fuck I dont wanna go back
Giving up is easy, looking for a job is harder. Keep looking anons!
Yeah.
Literally everyone and their mom applies to those companies OP.
Youre not just competing with all other unskilled idiots in your town, but your entire goddamn state. There are people who are willing to commute miles away for a min.wage job.
They are that fucking desperate.
If you have a high school education, apply at a bank or even better, a credit union. You will be doing the same level of customer service for far, far higher wages.
Can you get a hair cut and wear a dress shirt? If you don't know how to wear a dress shirt, look online.
Everywhere I've lived, banks and credit unions are always needing either:
Tellers: you're a cashier but you count money instead of mcdoubles.
Item Processing: you process mail and paperwork. Usually a bunch of old asian ladies but depending on where you live you might get lucky.
Where I live I saw tellers hired on straight out of high school with no job experience making anywhere from $12 - 16 an hour depending on where it was.
Hell, most of the credit unions also might have small or local call centers which could pay you the same to just quote balances and transfer people.
Every bank teller I knew got their job through friends or family already working at the bank.
Its an easy, cushy job with lots of upward mobility and benefits.
Its not as simple to get as you claim, honestly.
Theres tons of gatekeeping and nepotism.
t.mom worked at a bank so I know how it really is
Oh, your mom worked for a bank? I've worked for them for my whole life and while there is a little of what you say, it's not the case everywhere. Sure, maybe Wells Fargo or what have you might be a hostile environment, but this sort of defeatist thinking is only setting yourself back.
We had back end positions that were left open for 3 - 6 mo at several of the credit unions I've worked for just because nobody was applying.
Don't tell someone with more first hand experience "how it really is" based off your mom, please. Thanks.
My my, a little defensive, aren't we?
Firstly, im not even OP.
Second,
I was just pointing out that its not as simple as you made it sound. Especially if youve only "seen" examples of kids with no prior bank experience getting hired straight from HS.
How are you so sure those people werent benefitting from the nepotism and gatekeeping at my mums bank...? Its basic corporate white collar culture. Its not that bizzarre.
My mum for example had zero banking experience, or any work experience whatsoever ,but the only reason she got hired was because she met some lady that was a teller outside the bank and they became friends and thats what helped her get hired. In fact, everyone that worked there knew eachother and were apart of the same social circle.
You can call it "defeatist" and passive aggressively dismiss it but that's how i was told it was straight from her mouth.
Right, but the point is you're using the example of your mother and one institution to discourage someone from applying to an INDUSTRY.
My examples aren't universal, but yours aren't either.
But the best thing OP, or anyone looking for a job at that age can do is apply. Even if you have a 1/100 chance, does it hurt? OP sent 10 applications out already, might as well take the chance.
If you want more meaningless anecdotes, I applied to each of the banks, credit unions I worked at in CA, AK, UT, NV, AZ and all of them hired me with no connections and nobody I knew there with maybe one exception.
It's all just chance. You can improve your chances through connections, but when you're starting from 0, it's foolish to limit your options.
>Don't tell someone with more first hand experience "how it really is" based off your mom, please. Thanks.
Oh my
i have a list of like 20 jobs i've applied to in the past few months. only 1 or 2 called back. i'm still jobless and trying to get my first job at 18. what the fuck
The local post office called back ! Hell yeah boy. Got myself an interview
