What are your guys' thoughts on the afterlife? I'm ending it all in about a month(hopefully). The closer I get the more I wonder. What do you think comes after?
Afterlife
I think that unless our conscious minds are replicated then we are dead forever. However given the fact our universe can exist for eternity that means evrntually our minds will be replicated.
Thats sort of how I see it. When we die, thats it, and theres no way for us to perceive the nothingness ourselves, because we ARE nothing at that point. Still, the idea of the stereotypical afterlife/heaven does sound nice...
I'm guessing it's some unpredictable trippy shit
Will probably be pants-shittingly intense
it's a pretty simplified approach with at least two (or rather three) leaps of faith too
>unless our conscious minds are replicated then we are dead forever
the first leap of faith
>our universe can exist for eternity
the second leap of faith
>that means evrntually our minds will be replicated
the third leap of faith
and as for simplified approach... you see, if it was the case there would be replicated an endless amount of minds that are like you or differ from you very slightly or differ from you strongly and if we consider that you don't remain the same and change every day... ugh, i am not even sure which of those replicated minds is the new you
is that picture an abstract chad
usualy i think there is nothing but i'm fucking scared of reincarnation because i think it's not impossible ; life is a cycle so lost lives can very well be recycled into other bodies that are about to be born and i'm affraid of this
Its pretty, I know, but its a sunset landscape of only lines. Thats a yellow bird on a tree branch in the foreground. The green swirls are the grass, with shitty lil trees, and a pond. The red shape is the sun at the horizon, with the sky gradually changing from red to the black of night
That's a very nice picture user. It's a great work of folk art. I saved it to my computer. I hope you have a good day.
that would be horrible :( id hate to come back as someone whos worse off that I was before
you too user, I hope all is well. Be better than I have.
I really hope simulation theory is true and it's all a game, and once we're out we can do whatever we want
Wishful thinking
God I hope not
I also hope that the majority of people/animals/whatever else that suffer greatly are philosophical zombies
I don't think a reality where they're not should exist
if simulation theory is true you are about as out as an npc in a pc game is out when it is killed or the game ends
If I can keep my memories and reincarnate. What worries me, is that it doesn't end until I pull the plug on the remembering part.
Unless we exist outside of it and are interfacing with it somehow
Anything would be better than the cuckoldry I've experienced so many years. You're supposed to be okay with it because then you are an asshole and dont deserve anyone apparently.
Yeah. The afterlife is probably a good escape plan.
Consciousness is only real in a single time frame as an interaction of cells.
Over time, a subtle changes happens, but nontheless the "you" died.
When you physically die you have a chance to reincarnate. The very atoms that make you will rescramble into a living being.
It might be 5 million years from now, 50 million, maybe 1 billion.
This means you will lose all memories, knowledge, everything from your previous life.
Oblivion. There is nothing after death in my opinion.
Why would that being be you?
Let's say that half of your body's atoms go one way and half go another
They are very far away now
They both organize into a "life bearing" pattern at the same time
Which would you be?
"Your" consciousness would have to be indivisible for this to work, and if it's a pattern created by moving parts, then it isn't.
OP here
I know it sounds childish, but for years I've daydreamed of being all powerful. Like one way or another, I acquired the power to do anything, create anything, that I want. People situations, "stories", if you will, you name it. I think thatd be a pretty sick afterlife. But at this point, Id be ok with almost anything, as long as I can leave this world behind. Any of you have similar fantasies?
>Like one way or another, I acquired the power to do anything, create anything, that I want. People situations, "stories",
become a writer, huh
that's your "one way or another"
Yes
Most of the time though I like to imagine that all of the stories already exist, and I'm transported somewhere safe where I can pick one that's perfect for me. Being an omnipotent god would be a) comparatively lonelier and b) way too much responsibility.
But I used to fantasize about dying and then some robots coming in and tearing down my reality like it's made of legos, and then I go back to the drawing board for another round simply because there's nothing else to do.
Being an untouchable observer is way more fun than being the cause of everything, and being a god isn't fun unless there's a hint of sadness in it.
both would claim to be "you"
idk its something i always thought of
>Consciousness is only real in a single time frame as an interaction of cells.
what im trying to get at is there is no singular "you" unless if time were to stop
The problem here is you guys are trying to use logic to explain something that isn't logical in the slightest.
Whatever it is, whatever happens, we have zero capacity to even understand the process. All we can know for sure is that we die. There begins life, then begins death. We can prolong life expectancy to a limit. However the quality of life diminishes exponentially as we get older. I don't we are supposed to be so old anyway. This is all still very new to us. I'm sure in the future we will have a much clearer understanding. It really just takes time.
at least when we die we would just disappear and not care. sounds nice to me
I believe in the traditional sense, but I do not want to go there. I would rather stop existing.
don;t commit suicide, not worth it it even if there is an afterlife
I'm sorry to say user, but its over. I'm in the endgame here. Be better than I was. Bless you all
it seems in life, love and death are intertwined
so perhaps love eternal
in all its pain and beauty
Literally nothing unfortunately. But the good news is,we won't be conscious to be aware of it. So it's basically like how it was to not be born yet.
Simply given the fact that we have already become alive from a dead state (before you were conceived to being conceived), I think it's pretty likely that it could happen again.
