They is a wide veriety of communities on reddit. Some fucking cancer, and some that unironicly feel like Jow Forums. Go for it.

Reddit is useful if you want to talk about one very specific thing for hours and hours and hours. Among all of the major online communities, it's the one that probably has the highest tolerance for in-depth discussion. But the community dynamics there are pretty bad. Reddit gives off this distinct vibe that you need to visit it to understand, it can't really be captured in words. But it's basically overly polite, fake-nice, and hive-mind-ish. Expect a lot of posts about 'this community is the best group of people I've ever met, you changed my life' and such things. It's all incentivized by the karma system.

Reddits high amount of subcommunities is its best features but it literally has three goddamned layers of censorship. Downvotes, moderators, and admins. It encourages people to make posts which don't challenge what people already believe. It's really bad at discussing things where there isn't an objectively right answer because anything subjective becomes a circlejerk popularity contest.

To answer your question, there's really no incentive to use it. If you're looking for comedy it's all just recycled and reused memes, nothing there is original.
