i have one like i have a facebook. its to make people think im "normal". i use facebook to keep track of former classmates successes while im stuck in the same small town trying not to kill myself

I don't like the principles behind these companies. They purposely use algorithms to exploit dopamine and make you addicted. Not to mention they are using your pictures and data and "artistic creativity" to sell to other companies without your consent. Ever notice how something becomes kinda trendy after you like it?
Yeah, even the creators of facebook and instagram admit to not using the sites because they know the sole intent behind them. These sites are free to use for a reason, and you are selling away your feelings, ideas, art, and identity to music companies, entertainment companies, and anyone else who may be interested in your data.

It's completely useless for me. At least with Facebook there's messenger and marketplace that I occasionally buy things off of. I don't post anything and only have about 10 friends on there, mostly just co-workers and drug dealers. Same deal with Snapchat, I only use it to message my dealer. While I think some data is harvested and used for corporate purposes to some degree, I don't think its quite as over-arching as you suggest. Also, both FB and IG have high levels of advertising integrated into regular account usage, which is a big source of revenue for them as having such a wide audience to advertise to is a coveted and valuable spot for advertisers
