I was at a party in my apartment block with my mom and as I was running around, just playing, I ran into a lamp and it fell and broke. I ran away crying and my mom came chasing after me then yelled me because it was midnight and I ruined it for her by making her chase me and miss the celebration.

My little city used to hold a new years parade and drop a giant paper mache pear at the stroke of midnight. People of all ages would come out and it was the biggest event of the year because development hadn't really caught up with rate of population growth enough to have very much to do entertainment wise. This year was a lot bigger than previous years too since it was to ring in the new millennium. There were vendors all over selling food, hot drinks, toys, and bullshit y2k souvenirs. I was about 8 and had one of those big plastic bugle things and was running around trumpeting it when I got sweapt up into the crowd and lost among the drunk uni students gathered around the spot the pear would come down soon. A neighbors kid who was in his early 20s and used to babysit my siblings and I saw me and along with his freinds picked me up and carried me around as midnight approached encouraging me to keep blowing the horn. Afterward he found my parents and we all got some chili at a little corner deli/drugstore that had stayed open for the festivities. Good memories.

Oh my god, at first I was wondering how I could remember a specific date but then I realized it was new years eve. My mom had a little new years party for my sister and I early. My sister was just 2 and she was upset when the confetti fell and she grabbed her toy broom and kept saying "uh oh! uh oh" and trying to sweep it up.
