Well, physical exercise is off the menu for a bit, lads. Just got out of the hospital for abdominal surgery, so for the next couple months I'm not allowed to lift anything heavy.
It's wild thinking that a full year ago I would have been 260 lbs and not the 190 I am now, and how different that operating experience would have been, given that my operation had a few complications.
Anyway, blogpost over. Post surgery also means I'm not taking in anything over 1500 cals a day because I just don't feel like it. #blessed

decide if you want to lose as much weight as possible or a fixed amount per week. if the former, don't eat anything extra. if the latter, take the lowest estimate of the calories burned and add it on to your budget. see if the amount you're losing remains stable at the amount you want. if not, adjust it up or down by 100 kcal at a time until it is. for the record there's some big merits to sticking to a fixed 2 lb a week rather than trying to lose as much as humanly possible.

Tip from someone who hasn't been obese in over five years: Weight is 100% diet. Don't think that you can get through this hitting the treadmill and then "rewarding" yourself with a double cheeseburger and a soda. However, you CAN do this without ever getting off the couch for anything other than the bathroom and the kitchen. During the cutting period, don't snack, eat only complex carbs, and keep those calories down.
For the long term plan, make a list in your head. Choose things that you'll be moderately temperate in and things that you'll limit severely. My big suggestion for the latter camp is sugary food and drink. For example, I have a sweets budget of one sweet per week. If you try to hand me a coke, I'm not going to give up my slice of peanut butter pie for that shit. Don't plan to survive on chicken breasts and broccoli for the rest of your life. It's unsustainable and unnecessary.

I woke up around 1AM this night and couldn't go back to sleep due to sheer hunger pains. The hunter's high was fucking intense. No amount of water or just lying still would make me fall asleep. Only when I ate some of my breakfast, and breaking my fast before it was necessary, did I manage to fall asleep.
