My dad is in the military, never thanked him. Growing up, He made me live all around the world and I couldn't make any friends because I couldn't speak the languages and I couldn't keep any friends because I'd move every 2 years. Soldiers should not have families.

Thanking a combat veteran as a civilian that hasn't been there feels wrong somehow. I respect military guys but I'm not going to do that.

No. I've been in the military and it feels weird when people do this. I never knew what to say back.

Yep. I deliver pizza to military bros all the time and thank them for their service. If they don't act like assholes and tip me fairly (because the pay fucking sucks and I'm close to bailing out since it barely pays the bills), I offer them free extras and give them huge discounts on their orders. Not allowed to do either, but it's how I show support. I also prioritize delivering to them first if I know them and deliver regularly.

Yeah when I was a teenager we were trying to get cigarettes and this guy was running nearby. It was like 2am turns out he had just got back from deployment and was going for a late night run and also getting smokes. Apparently long distance running and cigarettes are a big combo in the military. We hung out for a bit he told us war stories gave us like three packs for free. I didn't thank him for his service but I said some teenager shit like "mad respect dude" and then fistbumped him.

Only once. It was the two people the local military base sent to my grandfather's funeral. He fought in the Pacific in WWII. They did the ceremony and handed my crying mom a neatly-folded flag before they put the coffin in the ground.
