I don't really use it, but it seems like most specific topic forum sites are dead/dying, and reddit just seems to be the most active place for discussing most things.
I wouldn't use it for talking about casual things, but if I wanted to go somewhere to discuss a new game or features of some obscure thing, reddit is pretty active and seems useful for that.

Good organized lists of anime/manga for when I want to find something new (their autism is good for something). I don't keep an animelist and am not into everything deep enough to get use from /a/, plus dislike most current season anime aside from 1-4 a season
I also have no friends so I like to read discussion threads for TV shows I like to see what other people thought. I don't use /tv/ because I'm not a pedophile
