Not at my job, they had strict no facial hair rules until I stopped shaving, so did several people after me and I was the only one they didn't force shave. Only white person in the back of the house at a restaurant. Also I can be lazy as shit and they never apprehend me.

Keep your chin up lad. A good dishwasher is harder to find than a cook or a chef in the industry. If you show up to your appointed shifts consistently and are high or blitzed out less than 60% of the time you're already a valuable commodity. The food and bar game's a revolving door too, as you already know. You're not condemned to work at the diner forever. Keep an eye out on Craigslist for openings at fancier more upscale or hipper gigs. You're living in SoCal not the boonies, there's a new fusion whatever popping up every week. I'm sure you can find a place you can call home again.
