If partaking in a hobby won't benefit me 10 years down the line, it's probably pointless and something I should avoid spending a lot of time on. 10 years from now I most likely won't care that I saw some movie or played a game today. But if I practice an instrument, exercise, work on some kind of skill, there is a reasonable chance that the benefits will stay with me for many years. That's what separates a good hobby from a shitty one imo.
