I've lived 18 years in French Polynesia ( grew up there because of my dad's military job ) :
- They are very welcoming and you can truly be part of their people if you embrace their culture and like it
- Young ladies are really attractive and sexually active but unfortunately they tend to have an awfull aging patern, becoming fat uglies as soon as they are married
- They are the most friendly people on Earth, you can sense in their everyday actions that they want you to be happy and if they can do anything for you to be happy they'll do it.
- Most of them are not really smart and they're therefore not that good at school
- Most are very religious but not in the bad way, even the Jehova Witnesses I grew up with were super chill about religion.
Yet, the socio-economical reality in Tahiti is such that most of the lower class is Polynesian when most of the upper class is Caucasian/Chinese, which triggers in them a behaviour of stealers, as their culture is not really focused on ownership they gladly forget what they have the right to take and what they don't.

Brawling is a huge source of pride in Poly culture for sure. I had a 4.0 for much of grade school but my dad was obsessed with makinh sure I got "no lickins" and enrolled me in several types of martial arts and boxing since I was 5. It's a shame because the town in itself has -for a town this size obv- a rather nice history.
If you want to sightsee, I wouldn't recommand Nothern/Western coast of Tahiti that are really dirty and home to 90+% of non-touristic related economy of the country.
As for the food, I can tell you for having exclusively feed with fish for most of my life that the food with raw fish is godly, but I can understand your point of view as American are not used to such meals.

I don't know if I'm being understandable, but that a classical exemple of natural selection in human population : as their way of life implied loooong period of time without food, then abundance, then again no food for their whole life, the Polynesian who survived / were healthy enough to mate were the ones that could fit in this lifestyle, ie those who efficiently store fat.
At the time, it was a life saver advantage.
Nowadays, it just makes you fat as they don't lack food anymore.

pretty admirable for a tribal people I can't think of any other tribal people that were as smart except maybe native americans but they didn't understand the concept of forts and siege warfare combined with musketry. Maori were almost made for warfare and it shows today they enjoy getting in fistfights and usually have a big smile on their faces when they fight one another.
