I live in BC, Canada. I was just kicked out of college and fired from my apprenticeship, so I have to go do a wages slave job for like $10 USD/hour for a year to pay my debts off. Thing is, I can't keep eating my parents food anymore. I have gained 25 kg since moving back in with them 8 years ago, and I just can't keep it off. Doesn't matter what I do, because if I restrict myself to the healthful part of their groceries, I run out of food in less than a week. Up until now, I have been unable to afford my own food because of school. For the first time in like 8 years, I will be buying my own groceries and keeping them in a separate fridge. Intermittent fasting on their pantry is fucking torture because almost all of the shit they eat is high glycemic index garbage. I've tried every diet, and I just can't do it without paying my own food bill.
How do I eat healthily on $500 CAD per month? That's $375 USD or €340. Groceries are expensive in Canada. In fact, they're so expensive that I almost never buy them, hence the obesity.
an apple an adderal and some coffee. Same diet used by Christian Bale
Elijah Richardson
Dude I feel you, fellow BCer, I can’t even buy like a basket fully of somewhat healthy food without paying close to $200, it’s bullshit
David Hernandez
>What's the cheapest diet you can lose weight on? Eat nothing
Camden Adams
Starvation
Nolan Reyes
It's all I can do to buy some fruit when it's in season. I haven't been to a grocery store, filled a cart, and walked the bags home or put it in the trunk of my car for a decade. I never see regular people grocery shopping anymore. Just rich cunts with perfect little kids.
Henry Barnes
chicken, tuna and add lots of veggies, steam and stir fry
Jason Turner
>veggies, Unless its frozen shit that comes out the same as it goes in, I'll be broke if I buy yams, carrots, Brussel sprouts, beets etc.
Aiden Kelly
What do you eat then? Describe your diet.
Connor Garcia
>What do you eat then?
I eat what my parents eat. I'm almost 30, and I have literally 0 control over the food I have too choose from. They're boomers who eat bread, potatoes, rice, chicken, pork, and shit like that. There's always ice cream in the fridge. Endless diet soda in the summer. When I lived on my own, I basically lived off fish, quinoa, and frozen vegetables. The only good thing they buy is canned salmon.
I have to second guess myself when I buy so much as a plate of food from a restaurant, wondering if I'll be overdrawn at the end of the month.
Xavier Lee
Kek Canada is such a fucking joke. For the first couple months you should be doing a bunch of IF to lose that 25kg. I'd say like 3 days out of the week. Remember your electrolytes obviously. After that; Oats Frozen peas Dried legumes (you will be making a large batch once a week) Tuna (
Robert Morris
Lol tell us why you got fired and kicked out of college.
Also there is tons lf cheap shit you can buy that is healthy. Canned beans, lentils, oats, frozen veggies are just some stuff that I eat to supplement the boomer foods that my parents buy. Of course you can still eat the chicken and pork they buy for protons. Also just eat less, if you are trying to lose weight then you will need to be on a deficit anyway.
Brayden Bennett
If you are worried about money you sure as hell should not be going to resturants.
Gabriel Allen
>potatoes, rice, chicken, pork None of this is particularly bad. Far better than frozen entrees, mac and cheese or pizza
James Flores
Yeah I should just never see my friends, ever, or go on dates. My twenties should just burn away into nothing.
Wyatt Robinson
>Far better than frozen entrees, mac and cheese or pizza This is Canada. People don't eat like that here. >Lol tell us why you got fired and kicked out of college.
Nathaniel Smith
Frozen veg isn't bad. Actually it can be better than the "fresh" stuff in the store since they freeze it at peak ripeness instead of having to pick it early, or picking at ripeness and then having it slightly degrade during transit and display.
Carter Nelson
>Lol tell us why you got fired and kicked out of college. You've got the order backwards. I got kicked out of college for my shitty handiwork, and then I got fired for being too slow on the construction site. BC is flooded with cheaper journeymen from Alberta thanks to oil crashing. Why would they put up with my bullshit and pay to train an apprentice when they can get desperate journeymen on the cheap?
David Richardson
>complaining about being poor >eating out at restaurants
Shut the fuck up faggot. No wonder your a wage slave when you have this kind of mentality.
No offense, but you seem to have a negative attitude.
Dominic Moore
Bullshit. I had to blend the last frozen peas I ate or I would shit out entire peas from them being half digest.
Jonathan Bailey
This is the boomer mentality. You have not allowed to complain about being poor, and if you're poor you're not allowed to have a social life. Oh, and the Boomer is the one who will fire you if you try to unionize your wage slave plantation.
Fuck capitalism and fuck you.
Sebastian Smith
This is kind of what I was thinking. I was fairly successful with ketard intermittent fasting, but I didn't have the money to get enough fatty food to get me through the month.
Dr. Jason Fung's book is great, but I'm too poor to implement his plan.
Robert Ward
Listen, shitksin, I don't know about you, but when you go somewhere to meet other people you're expected to patronize the business. I know that down in Dumbfuckistan, this is considered raysis or something, but that's not how it works in first world countries. You just wouldn't understand.
I also live in B.C, you need to become a fucking android, precision laser sale finder. Cross shop like a motherfucker, price match out the ass. Use every coupon available to you. I use a PC MasterCard that gives me fuck tons of points to use for groceries, I get shit tons of money off like that. It's like a part time job finding good deals on groceries. Alternatively, find a better job I make 110k a year working for the railroad and I can afford the extra cost but I only spend about 350-400 a month on groceries for an entire 5.5 deep freeze and fridge/pantry full. Also get really good at not wasting ANY food. I proportion/plan my groceries out so I literally eat every last thing in my house before I have to go grocery shopping again.
Luis Cook
Then your not cooking them correctly you absolute tard. Buying "fresh veggies" is a scam, chances are the frozen vegetables are fresher than the ones in the produce isle you absolute mong.
Josiah James
What about Costco?
Tyler Martinez
>Don't believe your lying eyes.
Shut up Jow Forums.
Brandon Johnson
Ehh, kinda worth it. I live 4 hours away from the nearest Costco which makes the money id pay in gas and membership not worth it for me. If you have one local and have the space to store huge amounts of bulk food, it would be super helpful. Last time I went I bought $2000 worth of groceries and it lasted me well over a year.
Kevin Stewart
Do you live in a former mining town or something?
Liam Flores
More like a current mining town but yeah
Lincoln Sullivan
Do you ever go to u-picks this time of year? I miss that living in the city.
Jack Jenkins
Nah, I don't have that kind of time. I would if I did but its too much of a pain in the ass for me. I'm too busy as it is outside of work.
Jack Kelly
you shouldn't if you've fucked up this hard in your life.
Jack Butler
My only mistake was turning spending most of my 20s in the Great Recession. I should have known to ask to be born in the 50s.
Juan Lewis
Post teeth
Landon Wright
I see a dentist annually. I'm 6 months overdue right now because I'm so fucking broke.
Hudson Hughes
This is the zoomer mentality. Instant gratification. As soon as you get paid you should spend it on frivolous overpriced consumerism.
Chase Morales
>How do I eat healthily on $500 CAD per month? That's $375 USD or €340. Groceries are expensive in Canada. In fact, they're so expensive that I almost never buy them, hence the obesity. it's simple, just start (legally) killing the canadian politicians (in self defense) responsible for our third world living standards until we kick out the third world low skill labor and achieve a functional nation state again
Jose Foster
Im from the upper midwest and white and proud nigger. You're the faggot who can't see that if you have no money to spend, maybe you should spend your time interacting with others in ways that don't by their very nature ensure overpaying for what is in reality a second class environment for intimacy and bonding.
Michael Barnes
You're just stupid. If you wages are below the base cost of living, budgeting doesn't matter. "Not eating out" isn't good advice for those of us who are permanently poor, as it would mean living in our parents basements forever, never leaving the house. Next you'll be telling me to cancel my gym pass to save money.
Sometimes when I get depressed, I remember that most of you will be dead in less than 20 years, and that we will finally be able to have a violent revolution to overthrow capitalism with the help of Chinese financiers.
>My only mistake was not my fault. Take some personal responsibility man. You sound like you're 14.
Jeremiah Rogers
You're just another friendless American incel. Why are you up so late? Getting withdrawals from opiates?
Nicholas Kelly
>You're just stupid. If your weight is above the recommended BMI dieting doesn't matter. "Not eating out" isn't good advice for those of us who are permanently obese.
Aiden Bennett
I am not responsible for the state of the West. I was 16 when the Great Recession happened. Get fucked, and fuck off. I have absolutely no control over the open borders, wage slave economic system that is imposed on me from above.
Luis Thompson
>Chinese >Overthrowing foreign capitalism (i.e. their customer base)
Holy delusion.
Andrew Martinez
China's new customer base is their own middle class, which is bigger than America's former middle class of Millennial debt slaves.
Jose Green
I'm on lunch break. Stop being so pathetic.
Ryan Peterson
lmao nigger what the fuck? We have the highest taxes in the world to fund our insane social democratic programs, you think MORE communism is going to fix this sthihole of a non-country? I'm totally down with the violent revolution part if it means the end result is half of my paycheck stops going to heroin addicts, teen mothers and minorities
So China is not Communist (which everyone already knows) So why again would they overthrow foreign capitalist? Also is you actually think for a second China would be capable of Overthrowing the West i.e.America then you are completely ignorant and need to lurk Jow Forums and Jow Forums
I'm getting a strong scent of underage wafting off all your posts. You come here asking for help and when decent advice is given to you you lash out and complain "it's too hard! that's unreasonable!" And continually complain how your situation is not your fault. Read Meditations and learn to keep your mouth shut, man-child.
Noah Robinson
I think you need to realize that the average wage is $13usd an hour, food and rent cost twice as much in this country than they do in America, we replace 5% of our population with third world unskilled labor every single year who are all AGRESSIVELY competing for these low-end jobs, and we are intentionally sabotaging our own economy by not building oil pipelines to harvest our natural resources. this economically suicidal policy has lead to all of the skilled laborers that support the oil industry being dispersed across the country creating a massive competition for skilled labor as well if you factor in living expenses, you literally make more money as a barista in america than you do as a skilled tradesman in canada, shut the fuck up with your "pick yourself up by your bootstraps" boomer horseshit.
Instead of complaining about things you cannot control you should be saving money. Something you very much can control.
Henry Richardson
You have literally not read a book in the past year. You are a retard. Fuck off.
Leo Gomez
Wow, a picture on the wall of one of the most dishonest governments in the world completely invalidates the reality of their economy.
Jackson Brown
Holy shit. Even you realize how bad you're losing, right?
Grayson Allen
It's like I already said ( isn't me) if basic cost of living (absolute basic, living in your mom's basement) is more than your wages, you're fucked. Why the fuck can't you understand that?
$760 - $900 = -$140
I had to beg my mom for money again this month to bring me back to $0. My phone bill was $200 dollars this month. I don't own a fucking car.
Nathan Lee
Stop shopping at whole foods
Nicholas Walker
I'm not even that guy, I have a gross asset value of $400k USD (most of that being from inheritance and a little bit from crypto). I'm not poor, but I sure as fuck can't save money when I'm trying to live by dignified standards while stuck in a second world shithole in economic freefall.
>dignified standards There's your problem. Would you rather live ascetically for a few years, or just scrape by for decades trying to keep up with the Joneses?
William Brooks
>It's not our country btw. I'm not American. I'm talking about Canada, you mong. >taxes are communism taxes that pay to maintain basic public services like garbage collection and a police force isn't socialist, but a country where unemployed pajeet and his 6 kids share the same living standards with a batchelor journeyman due to how much taxes it takes to pay for these social programs is absolute class destruction marx tier communist faggot shit
Christian Myers
>would you rather live like an animal or live like an animal i'd rather kill the politicians who want me to live like an animal, senpai (in minecraft)
Elijah Gomez
You post a bad ifunny jpg to save face after having to resort to ad homineum, non sequitur, goal posting, and strawman? I refuse to believe you are old enough to even vote.
Luis Sanders
Good luck with that junior. Meanwhile we'll be here, in reality.
>"The wild Milesian [6] features, looking false ingenuity, restlessness, unreason, misery, and mockery, salute you on all highways and byways. The English coachman, as he whirls past, lashes the Milesian with his whip, curses him with his tongue; the Milesian is holding out his hat to beg. He is the sorest evil this country has to strive with. In his rags and laughing savagery, he is there to undertake all work that can be done by mere strength of hand and back -- for wages that will purchase him potatoes. He needs only salt for condiment, he lodges to his mind in any pig-hutch or dog-hutch, roosts in outhouses, and wears a suit of tatters, the getting on and off of which is said to be a difficult operation, transacted only in festivals and the high tides of the calendar. The Saxon-man, if he cannot work on these terms, finds no work. The uncivilised Irishman, not by his strength, but by the opposite of strength, drives the Saxon native out, takes possession in his room. There abides he, in his squalor and unreason, in his falsity and drunken violence, as the ready-made nucleus of degradation and disorder. Whoever struggles, swimming with difficulty, may now find an example how the human being can exist not swimming, but sunk.... That the condition of the lower multitude of English labourers approximates more and more to that of the Irish, competing with them in all the markets: that whatsoever labour, to which mere strength with little skill will suffice, is to be done, will be done not at the English price, but at an approximation to the Irish price; at a price superior as yet to the Irish, that is, superior to scarcity of potatoes for thirty weeks yearly; superior, yet hourly, with the arrival of every new steamboat, sinking nearer to an equality with that."
Jackson Thomas
capitalists utilizing immigrant labor to destroy the working class wasn't the point i was trying to make, i was saying canada hardly has a class system whatsoever now, outside of metropolitan cities where tech zoomers get paid $80/hr to write php, every single person is lower middle class, regardless of social standing or career. surgeons should not be driving a 2001 honda accord, engineers should not be clipping coupons, i should not be eating food from a god damn can. that is fucking communism, fuck you
Gavin Martin
>canada hardly has a class system whatsoever now
You obviously don't live here. You don't know what communism is.
/lit/ is the only good board because it's the only board that has people who know how to do research before they type falsehoods into the internet.
Jack Howard
frozen its ok also go for cabagge its pretty cheap
I'm not all political, actually I'm not political at all for the most part. I'm not a poli-sci major or any of that other shit and I don't really have a clue. I'm just an average Canadian citizen that has slowly watched the decline of the economy encroach further and further upon my value as a blue collar worker. 5-6 years ago, making 110-120k leafbux a year I was living very comfortable, nowadays it's beginning to make everybody struggle. When the average cost of groceries in Canada for 2 people is $400 at the absolute minimum buying garbage food, gas prices are $5.00/gallon, sales tax alone is at 13%, income tax is at 21-26% and property taxes are forever going up. Our dollar is worth 75¢ USD, Our provincial and federal government's are sabatoging any attempt to create infrastructure for our natural resources, cutting tax breaks, raising minimum wage so high that small businesses can't compete and close their doors.
Shits going haywire. I'm lucky enough to have my job, I have two bachelor's degree's and a trade that wouldn't do shit for me if I left my job because those fields are full of people willing to take 1/4 of standard industry pay to do the same work. Something is severely wrong when a household that brings in over 150k annually is starting to feel the squeeze as well.
Long story short, in true Canadian fashion, shits fucked bud. Buncha hosers up here.
Ryan Reyes
$20-25/kg of chicken breast. That's all you need to know about Canadian economy fren.
Caleb Lopez
> t. Zoomer
Levi Hernandez
Sauce me the ass end of that line, fren.
Caleb Scott
Also, cell phone service here is like 60$ a month for a plan with unl call/text with 1gb of data. A set of tires for your car is 800$, I last bought a pair in the states and even with the shitty exchange it costed me 410$. Car insurance rates are through the FUCKING roof, especially in BC. Wanna insure a new car? 10 year driving record no claims no accidents no tickets? That'll be $3000/yr Internet is like $80 a month for 100mB/s, ass speeds Fucking 5 dollars for a gallon of milk. Shit is literally as expensive as gas at this point. A dozen eggs is 3$ Ground beef? 5-6$/lb Chicken is 8-10$/lb
Look up supply management, it's what makes our dairy and meat prices artificially high in the interest of protecting our dairy industry. You should see the propaganda they fucking spout about how the U.S dairy market has atrocious, abbhorent, henious standards when ours aren't much better at all.
Want to rent a 1bdrm apartment? That's $1200 a month plus utilities
60-70% of Canadians live paycheck to paycheck with no investments or savings. No doubt mostly from poor financial planning but the economy is taking a huge bite out of everybodies ass. We're going to be the next Venezuela is we keep this bullshit up.
Juan Sanchez
JUST EAT LESS YOU FUCKING FATTY REEEE HAVE SOME FUCKING SELF CONTROL AND JUST STOP EATING LIKE A FUCKING RETARD EAT LESS MOVE MORE FUCK YOU REEEEEEEE Stop being a low IQ college dropout who lives with their parents at 30 and take LITERALLY ANY responsibility for your actions Stop blaming all your faults on your college, or your parents buying junk food (for themselves), or your work, or the government Grow the fuck up lol, learn how to read a nutritional lable

It's not even that good lmao, I spent 5 hours waiting with a completely broken wrist looking like a T-Rex to the point where it didn't even hurt anymore after 3-4 hours of waiting. Then the beta rookie ass doctor didn't set it properly, had to get it rebroken and reset after 8 weeks in a cast. Fucking trash. 40% of my income for this shit.
I'm boutta fucking blast up out of this shit hole and move to Merica where I can legally BLAST a fucking nigger for stepping foot on my property, the way GOD intended it to be.
Anthony Hughes
>I'm boutta fucking blast up out of this shit hole and move to Merica where I can legally BLAST a fucking nigger for stepping foot on my property, the way GOD intended it to be. do you have any idea of how you're going to go up and about that? i've been trying to find a way out of this joke of a country for so fucking long, and marriage fraud seems like the literal only way to even have a chance at permanent residency in the US
Brandon Murphy
>60$ a month for a plan
Check out my """$60/month""" plan. It's never under $120.
Intermittent fasting with nutritious bang for your buck food.
For food: >whole eggs for nutrition >fatty ground beef/pork for protein/calories, make meatballs or beef bowls with an egg cracked into it >beef liver for high protein and god tier nutritients, it's unpopular so it's cheap >big bag of rice >lard for cooking, extra calories and fats without going full retard by drinking vegetable oil >any coffee method besides those pod machines that cost like $1 per 8oz cup of coffee (staves off hunger) >bottle of honey for high GI carbs as a pre/post workout (optional). Don't do this if you are at risk for developing diabetes. >whole milk if you can get a good deal on it
That's what I basically do in America. Skip the veggies there's very little nutrients in them compared to the cost. I can eat 3oz of beef liver and get 10x more protein from it than a whole bag of broccoli. That's not even considering micros which also blow it away. I can't price check it for you but that's a start.
Luis Reyes
As a fellow rural Canadian it really sucks how so much advice you read online doesn't apply. Do you have any idea how much fresh fruit fucking costs in a place like this? Pick related costs $5 where I live, no joke.
Hell if I buy onions a la carte (instead of in a 10 lb bag) they cost upwards of $2/lb. It's a fucking joke, and makes half of budget/diet advice I read online practically useless.
You can get by just fine as long as you buy food only when it's on sale, buy in bulk and you should be good. Get Flipp on your phone to see which shop has the cheapest price for what you want to buy. Also, don't buy fruits it's a delicacy you can afford if you don't live off minimum wage.
If you don't have a job that pays well in the city move out to the suburbs, no reason to pay 2x the price for housing.
For phone services and internet look into companies other than Bell, Rogers, Telus and friends. CRTC mandated that every big company offer a cheaper alternative to telecom so you have things like Lucky Mobile and Fizz who offer cheap prices although with a bit less reliability. What I have right now is 25$/month for 2gb of data and unlimited calls/text. Internet prices have also gone down but you have to actually call up your provider to make the changes otherwise you're stuck with shitty prices.
I'm university student working part time for 10$/hour but you don't see me complaining like you, grow up. Everything I listed is common sense and you would have reached the same conclusions if you actually tried instead of blaming the system.
Josiah Smith
I have a few buddies down in the U.S that have given me advice. I have experience in a high paying job on the railroad that the northern U.S is desperate for, I could take a job at any of the 5+ class 1 railroads in the U.S tomorrow not to mention the lesser railroads but they pay less. I own a home here so I'd have enough money to purchase a home wherever I end up settling. So I'd have a secure, high paying job off the bat and I don't have a criminal record at all. I live so close to the U.S that I'm more ingrained with that culture than I am my own. I don't think it would be too hard to eventually get citizenship for myself, although I'm in a rare position. Most people do not have these luxuries.
Landon Nelson
>I'm university student working part time for 10$/hour How many thousand dollars a month are your parents giving you?
Luke Sanchez
Basically if you don't have a skilled trade, degree or something or are basically a superstar in your field it's hard to get sponsored for a green card. My situation is unique since I have 10+ years of highly skilled work in my field on the railroad and a degree in mech eng that the U.S is desperate for, I most likely could get an EB-2 green card and since I'm already a cad citizen my petition for the visa wouldnt be backlogged and I'd get approved pretty fast, then get a sponsorship via my employer for permanent residency. Still hashing out some of the details, but it seems like a pretty solid plan to bounce up out of this shit hole.
Jonathan Parker
