Martial Arts General. Discuss training, fighting, and trade banter.

99% of martial arts guys irl bring this shit up unprovoked and to sound cool

Are concussions and head trauma common in judo?

Whats the point of this unless you're training to compete? I'll just pull out a gun and make you beg for mercy before, your kung fu wouldnt stop a bullet

It's fun?

High level guys tend to have cauliflower ears, which of course means they get pounded on the sides of their heads

True. Would it then be 'adviseable' for someone with a concussion to do judo? Or would I be better off with just BJJ and lifting? I was considering doing judo alongside BJJ but I don't feel like CTE

For every guy that brags about muh Emm Ayys there are at least 2 who hide their power level

Not everyone lives in Amerimuttistan

Bump

I fuck my wrists when punching the bag. any advice please? can I train my wrists?

Attached: AT843_39_1.jpg (900x900, 31K)

I had the same issue. Be very conscious of keeping your wrists in good position when bench and overhead pressing. Do lots of grip work in the gym.
As for a more immediate fix, get long wraps and always put them on before you start hitting the bag. Always make sure you're making a well braced fist when you hit the bag.

get a water bag

Might join uni wrestling club, newbie in his early 20s, what are some good routines to get in shape? Was doing Kyle Hunt's off-season regimen, but it seems to take too long

That's ear trauma not head trauma

You'll just shoot a guy for slapping your girlfriends ass infront of you?
Have fun in prison lol.
Also, you're a bitch.

The founder of BJJ came to the US to issue challenges. He was beat by a completely untrained high school football player.
BJJ is a joke. In the first UFCs they hand picked the opponents and trained specifically to fight them. The opponent was not afforded the same luxury. BJJ is a joke.

Wrap your hands retard.
Your wrists will get fucked up for life if you keep this up.
Know plenty of guys who competed and now their wrists are fucked in their mid 30s only.

Boxing, wrestling, judo is hands down the best recipe for the alpha fighter.

Wrist wraps. Mexican style. Also, the heavy bag is not for going all out all the time.

Who cares about old stories? BJJ is seeing plenty of success today, it clearly works.

Try to punch more with the two first knuckles next to the thumb. That will prevent the ulnear side tendonitis. Also, buy elastic bandages, like mexican style hand wraps, at least 4m. I you have weak wrist, never do power punches on a heavy bag without wraps, and gloves, but also do some light punching on the bagcwraps only. When you are wrappnig your hand, make sure you are flexing them especially when you go around the wrists and knuckles. Also when you are going around the knuckles dont go to tight, because when you make a fist, that area widens a bit, and if you compress that it makes your hand more prone to injury. Another thing to remember is that you need to eat enough protein, and enough carbs to process that protein, nutrition is what makes most of the difference. You could also check out 'wrist training' , "forearm training" and " tendonitis rehabilitation" vids on youtube, if you train these regikns specifically, it makes the conditioning process a lot faster.

What are its successes? Point to the pure BJJ practitioner that is successful. You can not. It is a tool used to buy time for soldiers and police. It is a way to score points in a fight with very specific rules. Outside of that is has a very horrible track record.
So much so that the Gracie's and students have actually attacked and severely injured people who beat them publicly.
BJJ founding family members have had their records called out as fraudulent by their own family members.
The submissions and other key components of BJJ are not singular to BJJ. They existed before it in other MA.
It's a shitty meme.

Who cares about the Gracies? Plenty of BJJ is successful in MMA today.

It is better to let your wrists rest and wrist wrap when if you can punch bag again.

I suggest that you do knuckle push up to strengthning your wrists or do wrist curls.

>>who cares that the person who claimed he created a thing for a specific task and set of circumstances publicly was proven to be a fraud.

>>Plenty of successful cross trained athletes practice BJJ
Fixed it for you to reflect the truth if the situation. BJJ is < pretty much all other martial arts.

The second other martial artist are made aware of, and train to defend against BJJ it takes a very specific set if rules to keep it relevant.
Understanding that submissions and grappling is not exclusive to BJJ will set you free from the Gracie money grab. The American market is huge. Boxing and wrestling were superior.

Attached: Sometimes it's all bullshit.jpg (400x536, 25K)

>Understanding that submissions and grappling is not exclusive to BJJ
No, submissions are exclusive for BJJ and kosen judo, but since now BJJ and grappling has much more rivalry in competitions it's better place to learn submissions.

Bump

Based blend. Wish I had wrestled in school and done boxing and judo on the side.

This guy has never heard of catch wrestling lmao

Do you really believe the greeks were practicing Pankration god knows how long ago WITHOUT SUBMISSIONS?

I love martial arts, had a lot of fun practicing it back in the day, but the fact that it always attract the dumbest motherfuckers in the area is a pain in the ass.

So true dude. The scene is full of tards spewing mcdojo bullshit. You just gotta keep training and ignore them

Lol. You realize BJJ is just another martial art that was raped of its submissions right? I was going to name all the martial arts that tought submissions including the various wrestling forms and realized I can not think of a single martial art that does not incorporate at least joint manipulation. Even the gentle art "aikido" uses them.
You are out of your element here son.

>catch wrestling
Catch wrestling is rubbish low rivalry shithole, it is even worse than combat sambo.
>Do you really believe the greeks were practicing Pankration god knows how long ago WITHOUT SUBMISSIONS?
Post submissions from greek pankration.

Catch wrestling is trash and dead, let it go

Got only on answer in the boxing thread, so reposting. I've trained box for a couple of months before going home for summer. I'd say that I've some grasp on basics like footwork, boxing stance, basic punches etc but I'm no expert by any means and there's place for improvement for any of these aspects. Sadly, there's no boxing gym around in my city, so I was wondering if I could do some unsupervised training myself. I know that many people have strong opinions on that; that you shouldn't box unsupervised for the first year as it's really hard to get rid of bad boxing habits. However, I know some basics and was wondering if doing some shadowboxing a couple times a week to develop muscle memory for combos would be beneficial. I mean here basics like
1-1
1-1b
1-2
1-2b
1b-2
1-1-2
1-2-1-1
1-2-3
1-2-1-2
1-2-3-2
1-2-3b-2
1-2-5-2
1-6-3-2
1-2-3-2-1
What do you think?

Attached: 1567168519318.jpg (2000x1333, 498K)

The best grappler in the original run of Olympics who still holds the most win records did so through isolation of a limb and breaking small joints until his opponents submitted.

>was going to name all the martial arts
No one cares about some shitty non sport meme """martial arts""" when you can't practice submissions competitivele like aikido. If you want to discuss this rubbish you probably will interested also in orthodox holy cross fighting

Attached: hqdefault.jpg (480x360, 14K)

>original run of Olympics
You are talking about times when someone could get medals in five different disciplines? Go discuss memes somewhere else.

This is the reality when a BJJ faggot realizes he is being fleeced for a half ass shit version of jujitsu.

And where I can practice MUH GREEK PANKRATION now and how it looks like now? Oh wait! It looks like grappling but it is low rivalry shithole! No, thanks

Best takedowns for self defense potentially on concrete, potentially where you have to be gentle?

The ancient Greeks you twunt. Submission wrestling goes back to the ancient Greeks, celts, Norse and more. BJJ is a joke.

Sure bud, if it will make your life easier, I'm doing BJJ.

Attached: photo_2019-08-31_17-23-04.jpg (1280x960, 145K)

>>BJJ running as fast as it can holding goalposts overhead trying to distract

If you guys think the guys at the snake pit are trash you obviously don't grapple.

>The ancient Greeks you twunt
LMAO at this faggotry. Go discuss fairy tales somewhere else

Is there some all american catch wrestling championship? If yes, how many people compete at this event?

You obviously are not a wrestler, no toe/top wear from shooting drag.
Fucking clown.

Tueller drill fatty

>jujitsu

lol, don't attack me with your kata and plastic knife bro

post your wrestling shoes

It might be ok, but you should with a doctor more than here. Also if you do go make sure to talk about injuries with whoever in charge to make sure shits fine

Still practiced princess. Modern rules do not allow small joint manipulation and other violently painful techniques used, but still practiced.

>what is sambo?

Idk about a national tournament but I know that snake pit puts on a world championship each year. Never been as I'm a BJJ guy but I've competed against their guys in nogi opens and they're legit. Great takedowns and top game.

How many people compete at world shampionship?

What is barefoot.

>Idk
because catch wrestling is low rivalry shithole

Violent in action. They are very aggressive and talented.

If it's so shit why do their guys compete and place consistently in nogi? What tourneys have you won to make that assertion?

Thanks man. What would be more advantageous to BJJ and to health in general, lifting or judo? I can't really decide what I want to do alongside BJJ. I'm also considering doing running and bjj. What is best?

No shoes since high school. Barefoot in the ancient tradition.

Does anybody have the free 6 weeks training programme from Phil Daru?

Yeah super explosive and pressuring. Was jarring my first time rolling with one since I'm so used to the relatively relaxed flow of BJJ practitioners. Very different style of grappling, it's cool to see and good training to play against.

Enough that it's on espn.

Anyone /HEMA/s here? If yes, what do you do?
As for me,
>longsword
>Savate
>Knife-fighting

Not really. In most actually decent dojos, you learn to roll and take a fall safely way before you actually start sparring. Far more likely are shoulder or knee ligament tears. Also super common are sprained or bruised floating ribs.

That said, this is all relatively speaking. Judo, along with other grappling martial arts, are much safer injury-wise than striking arts, for obvious reasons.

Hey I've been waiting for one of you harpers to show up. Why is it that the old books you guys jerk off over have so much grappling in them yet y'all never practice it? Hell it seems like you guys never make contact at all. Is it just larp or are you guys afraid of actually getting hit and thrown

>farts

Funny how these dudes always disappear once they get called out

What is the difference between Catch Wrestling and just submission wrestling?

Reality and your defense of the BJJ meme are not lining up.

>Health in general
Lifting
>improve BJJ
Judo
If you can only pick one, and you have a previous concussion or health concerns, go for lifting and running, it'll improve your BJJ big time, but you'll definitely have less concern regarding injuries now and in the future, especially since weightlifting helps prevent injuries.

>still no numbers
because it's low rivalry shithole no one cares about

Stitches

Submission wrestling is catch wrestling dawg

Yeah, that's a good question. I guess what really sells is weapon fighting so grappling and wrestling are practiced only by a few hardcore passionate.
I suppose it's true a lot of people are more interested in not getting hurt that the opposite, but I wouldn't call that a general rule. When you start actually fighting with metal swords and shit, you better get ready to get hurt, and at the last convention I went to there was no less than 40 wounded.
Pic related, me on the right, I got so many bruises from that fight

Attached: 2019-05-12_11.58.13.jpg (2016x1134, 471K)

Oh here's this faggot again. Still waiting for you to post which tournaments you've one and which catch wrestlers you've tapped out. Do you even have your blackbelt yet?

The popularity of BJJ is its low impact meme practice. Any pussy can do it.

Then why the hate for it? In the end, you do the same as in Luta Livre or No Gi BJJ.

>t. assmad judoka or wrestler
Royce Gracie beat Dan Severn, a wrestler, so is the entire art of wrestling obsolete or...?

Oh I'm sure you bruise when you get whacked by a piece of metal it's just weird to me that you guys say you're revival ancient euro arts but then you only practice the fencing portions. I see none of the sweeps, throws, holds, offhand strikes, hilt strikes etc. That are illustrated in the treatises. It's really just fencing with less rules it seems like.

I think it's the same fag that posted unused wrestling shoes.

>ad hominem
not an argument, waiting for numbers

An untrained high school football player beat godfather Gracie so I guess high school football>BJJ

Because BJJ guys want to believe they're the best on the mat and there used to be a big rivalry with catch back in the day so they talk shit (this is coming from a bjj blackbelt). Its actually a great art with awesome takedowns and top game, explosive action and heavy pressure that BJJ guys (esp nogi guys) could learn a lot from.

>so I guess high school football>BJJ
Yes, it's true. Go practice it and then go to BJJ tournament to show that fucking buttscooters real martial art.

Look them up. The championship is aired on ESPN.

Like I said, what gets most people interested in the sword fighting part. It's probably just a matter of demand, people wanting contact would probably get into krav-maga or judo or whatever.
I do like savate, boxing and wrestling myself so I try to get my teachers to show me shit, but most people would rather whack with swords.

I don't care if literally who beats some guy, because I can still beat you.

Lol you're a blue belt, aren't you? Who's your instructor?

Sad man. Hopefully guys like you will bring back the complete art and it won't be a neckbeard sport any longer

lmao at your pain

Attached: 343.jpg (596x628, 40K)

>responds to a call out with memes
Yeah this guy probably doesn't even train. If he'd been to a single nogi tourney he wouldn't be talking shit about wrestling

Who are you? Where do you train? I will accept your challenge.

I'm in Alaska

Kek, I think it's inherently neckbeardy. I think it's still worth it though, I met some exceptional people who are the embodiment of /fitlit/ and are a pleasure to both talk and spar with. There might be 15% of them in the total HEMA population, I'd say.
