i don't understand. if people want to go for basic hikes, why do they need a guide/coach???
Some of the nicer places to hike (> 2 miles) are very easy to become lost in. And others are somewhat dangerous for an inexperienced hiker.
There's some places like that in Cheaha, AL I go to with some regularity, that are like that. Many of the best paths are on rough terrain, on top of high rockfaces, and a few select drops are > 500ft. Great places to climb and rappel, too. I highly recommend it if you're a hiking/climbing nut

I'm an avid hiker as well and I can say I never actually saw a fat person on serious hiking trail anywhere in Europe. Not even on mild day hikes desu.
I see a lot of ederly people (sometimes 80+, mountaineering or thru hiking I shit you not), but no landwhale ever.
