Hey Jow Forums, i wanted to a ask a question. i had a discussion with my friends yesterday about how to properly lose weight, and i told them my intention was to do cardio exclusively for the first month since i wanted to slim down (i'm 333 pounds). these guys kept telling me that if i do cardio or calisthenics at a constant rate that i was only going to lose muscle, not fat. if i wanted to do fat i needed to do HIIT.
Am i wrong in my thinking or are they exaggerating?
Your friends are retarded. You have so much fat on your body that any amount of muscle lost will be irrelevant.
Aiden Morales
no yeah, they're more/less right.
Heavy/exclusive Cardio is not a great idea for you. At 330lb of mostly fat, excessive cardio will fuck up your muscles (or whatever the fuck you have left. at 330lb fat, you're probably mostly flubber)
Stick to strength shit and most importantly, diet. Diet is the most important thing. At your weight, most if not ALL of your weight loss is gonna be diet related.
Ryan Baker
You could starve yourself for three months and still be obese Take me through what you eat in a day to end up at 333 pounds because I eat whatever I want whenever I want and I hover around 175-180lbs
Hudson Foster
I appreciate your comment First things first, I'm not entirely flubber, I've done heavy labour for the past 2 years on and off, so I have some muscle to carry myself around. But now I'm curious, how does cardio fuck up your muscles? The diet part is not the issue, I'm in such a focus inam now capable of completely getting rid of sugars in my life(fruit is still fine I think). All that's left is phase 2, appriciate cooking and do it frequently.
Nicholas James
Not to discourage you, but I can safely say you don't know anything about what makes people fat.
Ryder Harris
they're right, you're also too fat to do cardio honestly, just lift weights as you can, eat enough protein and CUT THE FUCKING CALORIES FATASS
Daniel Bailey
you have no muscle, stop being deluded you fat fuck
Isaac Gray
At that size I don't know if your heart can handle a lot of cardio. Might want to do a stress test with your doctor.
Isaac Morris
If you do cardio, don’t do too running at that weight because it’s going to destroy your knees.
Ryan Allen
cope

i'll send a picture if you don't believe me, i'm just giving you my word, i dont look like other people that are the same weight, im also 26 and am 6 feet tall

I'm out right now, give me like 10 minutes I've noticed people have a lot of anger towards fat people regardless of the reasons why, what are you hoping to accomplish with this attitude, because you have rustled my jimmies I know my limits, I know I should do knee straining exercises even though I've played a lot of DDR and PIU
Brayden Morgan
Foods that are high in fat/sugar and a sedentary lifestyle Unless you have a glandular disorder which you don't >Eat a lot, gain weight >Don't eat anything, lose weight The gap between the fastest metabolism and slowest metabolism is 8% Post your disgusting fat fuck body next time you reply to me
Justin Campbell
when you have very little muscle and a lot of fat cardio doesnt do shit.
even when you are a bodybuilder cardio doesnt outright kill your gains. the only way cardio can affect your muscle size is by ruining your recovery. cardio is so intense that you cant just add it to your workout routine. cardio kills GAINZ, not muscle. and this only applies to advanced and lean people
Cardio is a great idea for anyone who's obese. The reason isn't weight loss at all, the weight loss from cardio is negligible compared to diet. The reason cardio is great during weight loss is because it will be one of the rare things that makes you feel better in a caloric deficit. It releases chemicals that reduce pain and make you happy.

EAT LESS
Christian Flores
while correct, you would be surprised by the amount of people who cant stop eating. met many people who told me they cut through cardio because they dont want to eat less. and their cuts are successful so they arent just talking shit. I dont get them anyway. cardio makes me a lot hungrier so if anything weight loss with cardio makes it a lot harder for me personally. a lot easier is just to not eat
Landon Powell
Would it hurt to ask if you gentlemen could post your bodies now that I have?
Fuck, I need a phone update, the quality is horrible. I don't even know why it takes the picture that big.
Isaiah Watson
How are you supposed to know this without research? I don't think this is common sense among people.
Fuck, for the longest time my parents kept telling me to go to the gym, but when I changed my diet was when I actually lost weight
Josiah Hill
Nice general living area/bedroom/washroom you've got there
Chase Peterson
I say don’t do cardio until you’re light enough to not do more damage to your precious knees and back. If you can bike or swim, great. But until you’re light enough to run or do intense cardio, just lift weights and, more importantly, STOP eating.
Gabriel Nelson
This pic is motivation for me.
Daniel Green
The reason you should avoid cardio is because at 333 pounds you're fucking going to blow your joints and there's no coming back from that. You're literally so fat that you need to do the "pool exercises" to get even remotely close to cardio without permanently injuring your body. You're so fat that you no longer resemble a human and can't do basic human actions like running without hurting yourself. However, don't get discouraged. Just keep in mind that health is what matters at the point you're in, your skin will never look good and you probably only have slight muscles in your legs (assuming you don't sit all day, if you do you don't even have that), so any muscle loss will be irrelevant, the important thing is to lose fat ASAP. Also, there's no such thing as "only losing muscle, not fat". The whole purpose of fat is to be burned when calories are lacking. You will lose a bit of muscle if you don't eat a proper amount of calories, specially if you're lacking protein, but at your size you will just toss weight like crazy even if you eat for two people, and that's far more than enough protein, so no issue there.
Zachary Carter
Yeah at first stick to lifts and squats. Then work on cardio. I like to think cardio as an endurance builder.
Nathan Stewart
The nature of controlling one's weight is CICO, that is Calories In Calories Out. Calories burned through exercise are... pretty low. If you run for a few hours non-stop, that will still not be enough to burn a single cookie pack. The purpose of going to the gym for weight loss is to create muscle, which increases your daily expenditure of calories even when you don't exercise, and also increase the amount you burn when you do. But yes, it doesn't matter if you burn 500 calories a day running, but that makes you hungry so you eat an extra 1000 calories, so now you have a 500 surplus. The only way to lose weight is to have a deficit, and you'll only have a deficit if you either eat less or increase Calories Out without increasing Calories In (as in: add exercise without eating more).
Angel Kelly
When you're that fat you're nearly exclusively going to lose fat because it's the majority of what you have. When you're really muscular, it's easier for your body to tear through muscle tissue. HIIT is pretty good though.
what about an elliptical? heard they are safe for fatties.
Samuel Wright
hey commenter, this guy is doing a great job of losing weight, you on the other hand are a jerk.
Justin Robinson
commenter, you have no dick leave this thread and go diddle yourself.
Justin Jackson
Probaly better, but it's not like it counts as much cardio either. Just eat less, leave the moving more part to when you reach a healthier weight (like... the lower section of obesity, rather than morbid obesity).
Brody James
So the thing is, you'll want to also do the resistance training. Gaining muscle will help your overall shape, as well as your metabolic profile. That being said, doing pretty much anything at the start will help, and you may benefit from getting your cardio up first before hitting the weights. HOWEVER! As a former 300 pounder, myself, try to do cardio that limits how much impact hits your knees and ankles. Running and burpees probably won't be the best thing for you at the start. If you can get on a bike, that would be a good idea, as it's lower impact. Eventually you'll want to also do the weight training, though. It'll help your shape immensely, and muscle is more dense than fat.
Doing yoga might actually be a really good idea. You're probably tense as fuck due to living a sedentary lifestyle. When I was losing the bulk of the original weight, I was doing a lot of DDP Yoga at home, and was very glad I did.
This. People always overestimate their muscle mass. Bone structure and good skin can make you look more strong.
Owen Rogers
what about weight lifting as obese? would that cause any problems or benefit to losing weight? I ask because im in the same position as OP at about 330lbs. I have been doing light lifting 3 days a week monday shoulders weds biceps friday triceps 5 sets of ten, only first set is ever ten, the rest are to failure. and tuesday and thursday an hour on the elliptical
Is it better to just drop ehe lifting and cardio and focus on just eating less?
Did this because everything i read said Diet AND exercise, there are so many different opinions on weightloss hard to know what is best.
Colton Mitchell
>tits wider than your shoulder You have no muscle to risk losing.
Owen Mitchell
>No leg day Even if you are obese try to do something that resembles a leg workout. Elliptical and cardio machines are a waste of your time because you Will slack off. Your mind is hilarously deceptive when it comes to body stress, hiring a trainer to keep your intensity and motivación can help. Or you can also get a more experienced workout buddy.
I mean, he's not wrong. I weigh 350 and just started my weightloss journey, and I can only do low impact exercises right now or I risk shattering my fucking ankles.
